Night time view of the game is poor

I did the following suggestion ingame. I hope that more players will do that also so that we can make a statement that Blizzard hopefully notices.

Can you PLEASE make a option in the settings to shut off the night view in wow. I am visually impaired and can not play the game anymore in the evening and night because it gets so dark. I can change the view a bit with the settings for brightness and contrast, but than it looks very bad. Daytime I can play the game without any trouble.
PLEASE, I want to be able to play the game that I pay for!

being able to change the sky box would really help for this,

What is “the sky box” ?

Ironically but not unrelated, I want the nights to be truly dark.

But I agree it should be an option so that those that don’t like it, or have different patterns of sleep, or simply have the same thing as you can still enjoy the game.

I miss when WoW nights were actually dark, atm we have 24/7 day

Same, I would love proper dark nights. It makes such an amazing difference.

Inky Black potion and quests that put us in darkness show how great it could be.

sky box is the image/s in the sky

in runescape you can freely change this(and the corresponding lighting)

its doable, and would go miles towards the accessibility requirements for those with poor sight

Basically the graphic depiction of everything that’s isnt not the sky
Edit: I think the best way is to be able to set luminosity of light source objects over the Brightness setting, it should be possible considering the potion that makes everything darker

I understand now that a lot of players want to be able to use the view, that they prefer and I really hope that all of you that posted here will make an ingame suggestion. Because of my bad vision I am not able to play WoW anymore when day goes over into dusk and night. It’s not that I don’t like the way the game looks. It can be awesome at nightfall. But…, being able to play the game should be blizzards first priority

Have you tried adjusting the Gamma?

Go into

  • Settings
  • Advanced

and there is a slider where you can adjust the Gamma up when it’s dark. It does lead to a somewhat washed-out look, but at least it should be some relief. I have been forced into upping the Gamma a couple of times, most memorably in those $#% Quillboar caves in Stormsong.

Ajusting gamma looks some better than ajusting the brightness/contrast.

I couldn’t agree more. There needs to be an option so that players with problems can switch this off. It also makes the game forever gloomy for many that can only play at night.

I have to say I started to play League of Legends at night as LUX cus she always plays in the light… if you know what I mean. WoW can get really dark. Not easy.

For me its the opposite really, i only play in the evening or night because if i play games during the day its so bright it hurts my eyes

While I want it quite opposite - I want night to be very dark, I do agree with you.
There should be an option to choose which graphic filther that suits the needs of a player.

Currently there is no night mode at all, it’s just one big shadow instead.

are you actually being serious? turn on your brightness or something - nights aren’t even as dark as they’re supposed to be and there’s still people whining that they’re too dark? what?

Really? Well, I think changing the Brightness setting on your video should work for that, but you can also turn down the Gamma in-game just as Missloom adjusted it up.

You should try playing with chronic uveitis and two detached vitreous where your inner eye is a swirling mass of eye debris that picks up every fragment of deflected light. There is no dark in this game it’s a grey filter. So it just makes the image less clear cus the engine isn’t like say in Archeage that actually deals with the light properly.

Trust me when you have impaired vision glare and poor lighting are the main killers. Good quality light whether dark and or light is not a problem. But just faking it with a grey filter is the problem.

You can see the way the filter works if you go to Hillsbrad and do the Timewalking dungeon. Cus as you ride the path out the whole screen goes grey with the same filter they use for the nights. Some places are a real struggle. Last night I started to pull blood spots in my eyes… literal blood dots and it was caused by the strain of trying to focus through the grey filter. I gave up.

I, too, am visually impaired and struggled with BFA on my first day there as it was evening. I could barely get around Boralas. I was relieved when I logged in the following day (somewhat earlier) that I could see better in day light.
BFA in general is gloomier / darker and I had to increase Brightness, Contrast and Gamma.

Having an option to turn off Night and also Rain (I tried the setting weather to 0 but this didn’t work, setting it to 1 made it bearable).

Also not forcing us into 5 man dungeons for story content would be great. The BFA dungeons are quite dark / gloomy with less straightforward layouts. I was lucky that some kind people (who I met on the forums discussing difficulty for people with vision issues in the game) helped me do them. They were very helpful and Patient as Shrine, Waycrest and Siege of Boralas are all quite darkly lit with weather (fog and rain) obscuring it and with maze like layouts.

^ Posting on Main, not sure why it decided to start posting on my Monk alt.

@ Akezo
Put a transparant double plastic sandwich bag in front of your eyes and then shine with a torchlight in your eyes. Then look at your monitor and look around in BFA during daytime and night time. That is about the vision I have.
So yes. I’m serious. I’m happy for you that you can see no matter what time of day it is.
