Nightborne / Shal'dorei rework

More customization is sorely needed but don’t you dare take away my happy dance.

Forget about legion allied races its over and forgotten!

Nightborne are the only allied race I unlocked from Legion, because I was in love with them and I wanted to create one way before they had been announced as an allied race.

I created one and looked at him only to think “it sucks in ways I couldn’t even imagine”. I said to myself “well it’s just because they’ve been released BEFORE the actual bfa expansion so they’re obviously a work in progress. I’ll just wait and come back later when they’re finished, but as of now it’s a great preview!”. I’m afraid it wasn’t a preview.

At this point I don’t think anything will be updated before, let’s say, 3 or 4 expansions.

I don’t understand why the eyes are so different to the rest of the NPCs in the zone. I do like my nighborne though.

My guess is that by taking the 3d model and rig of the night elves, and modifying it, they had to keep certain specific points and proportions in place in order for the animations to work properly and not having to be recreated from scratch. So, having night elves round eyes, if they squinted it, it would have been resulted in the eyelids going too low or too up, messing up the whole face with hilarious expressions.

I don’t really remember but, I think that nightborne npc models don’t blink for that reason. Their face is static and won’t really move, but correct me if I’m wrong (they’ve done it for many models before, it saves time)

I was doing some leftover content in Suramar yesterday and it just struck me how many things are still missing from Nightborne. Like the hair, the playable character hair is unfinished, some styles like the slicked back hair is missing the side strands of hair and the ends of the hair don’t have that glowy arcane strands. The NPC clothes in Suramar is also flattering for them because of the bulky/blockiness, like coats and capes and square shoulders. Also, why isn’t some of the cool glowy armor available to characters, missed opportunity… meanwhile I have to deal with all the shoulder pieces being too far back on my nightborne character which makes it look like it’s floating and about to slide off the shoulders, I hate it.

As for me I like playable nightborne race (at least females).

Yes, there are few customization options but I see no reason to create many nightborne characters. One or two nightborne characters are enough for me.

Well, then there is a problem that everyone uses the same set of customisation options (I have seen only one of the male/female faces used by players - the non-withered one or young one if you want to call it that way), hence all NB characters look like clones, which is never a good thing in MMO (or any game…)

That’s because all the faces ARE virtually the same, they only added couple of lines and shading here and there. But Nightborne are not even the worst offender. Zandalari female faces look exactly the same, but it’s worse because they have such distinctive features so it’s even more noticeable.

Can I also add that Nightborne and Lightforged should get their Red (for Nightborne) and purple (for Lightforged) heritage armor recolours as well!

I love the Nightborne heritage armor, but it doesn’t match my Priest well, at all.

Some of the tints were in PTR, I don’t know why they weren’t added to the game

Mag’har orcs have all of the three from PTR and so should have every AR.

I don’t know who or what looked at the male Nightborne model and thought “Yes, this is it. Its finished”.

Same question goes for the Light forged Draenei with their white, white, white and white hair colors and grey, grey, grey skin colors. I thought my game wasn’t loading the colors properly when i first created one.

I’m glad that I don’t care about them because they do look really disappointing compared to the NPC ones.

They need to add a more revealing option without the robe like the Nightborne in front of The Motherlode or Thalyssra. Valtrois is also a good example of how it could have been, her shoulders are amazing

One day, or so I hope, we will get more hairstyles, and more tints, and more jewelry for the Nightbornes. And if Blizzard really love us, they may even correct their damn faces.
(And if they really, really love us, we might get the arcane glowy fingers, floating shoulders and stuff more like the NPC.)
