No offense to the SoD team, I get that all of this stuff can’t be tested on a large scale beforehand, but some of the design choices here are questionable in my opinion. I get that the intent was to be able to use it to farm exp but quite frankly there are far better/quicker ways to do it than this. Everyone in my guild preferred either dungeon grinding or questing over it, I managed to do about 4 quests with a guild group before everyone decided it wasn’t worth doing for exp compared to other options, so what you are left with is a forced rep grind for certain class specs to get their new best rune for that slot, and with 82-83 rep per quest hand in (with the human racial bonus), the randomness of which quests you get (though you often seem to get the same ones), paired with a lot of them not worth trying to do with the current congestion, not having the right professions on the people with you, and some of them being griefable, calling it a ‘nightmare’ incursion turns out to be pretty fitting. I know 3k rep isn’t that much but it feels like a lot with how monotonous the whole experience is. I really hope they consider at least increasing the rep gain from it.
The EXP from doing it is great though, sadly its a bit to great even devalues normal quests for exp a lot
It felt slow for me but then again I probably got spoiled by doing ZF runs with a full AoE group
I did 45-50 in Ashenvale in about 3.5 hours, and that was with 5-10min breaks between each run. In fact, 42-45 took longer farming ZF than 45-50 did in Ashenvale.
It took about 5 hours (including lockouts between Cath runs) for me to get 40-46 plus about 75% exp by doing Cath until 43 then spamming ZF. I don’t know how much the exp gain would have slowed down after 47 in ZF, but it does seem that the incursions might be better exp after that point. (Assuming you get quests that are doable) Thanks for the info.
The exp in nighmare zone is insane if you know what to do. Ppl in my guild got 180k/h and you get around 25g/h. Im sure you can get even more with sweaty groups.
With that being said. The design of the quests are meh and sometimes they bug and you cant loot quest items.
It is probably faster in nightmare zone, but it might be more fun doing dungeons😀
And you always get same exp and gold from the quests no matter what lvl you are.
After a period of getting overwhelmed, my group managed to do 14 quests (a “round”) in there in less than 15 min. Another guildie was stuck in a bad PUG, doing 2 runs in 90 min. In my opinion, this beats dungeons (yet again) both in engagement and XP.
Ashenvale went from 6.7k xp per quest until 49 to like 4.4k per quest (from 49-50). Still fast enough.
I’ve had the complete opposite happen, when we did the incursions we kept getting 1-2 quests that were doable per run, the rest were either escorts which people kept griefing, or quests that required professions we didn’t have. I guess we just had bad luck. My dungeon group meanwhile though was clearing ZF in about 20-30 mins depending on whether we kept going past the graveyard or not, so that ended up feeling a lot faster.
After a while a group of 5 more likely gets all but 1-2 quests. We all abandonded 10, 11, 12 (professions) and went for the others.
The “system” is easy. 3 areas. In each one of the 3 you:
- Loot a object of the ground (Egg, Box, Plans)
- Tag a boss when faction is killing it
- Talk with NPC
- Kill mob (Ancients being the slowest, but still OK)
- 3 Escort quests that you can get when whoever (Both Horde/Alliance) does them, aka you can AFK by the Portal for 2-3 min.
Starting in the dragon area > Lumber > Satynaar and back again. I experienced it as quite smooth (after we figured out how to share quests etc). Also, when everybody has shared the quests, one can delete the items (letter/token) to get the pre-quest again for some extra XP =)
Thanks for the tips <3 I’ll inevitably have to do them for rep anyways so knowing the best strats should help a lot.
This is doing my head in
This is basically turning off your brain and grind the same quest minute after minute… I honestly don’t understand how this made it to SOD
And they dared to call this “old school” content. The old school content that is there to explore you know the lvl 40-50 quests and mobs scattered over multiple zones, the content SOD is build upon is deserted and empty…
We went from P1 era+ to retail- in 3 phases
And since the gear is worth it you kinda forced to endure this… annoyed as hell
I have to agree.
Only done a few, since it gave me some serious retail vibes.
Totally chaotic and it’s just go go go… kill kill kill.
It might be great xp for the people who just want to get to max level fast, but it feels extremely anti-Classic
yep, really really bad for the classic spirit.
realy bummed out about this. even the 50% xp buff… just why? P1 lvling was fun because it was actually a journey. i feel rlly sad about this. if we want retail we will just play retail.
Worste thing is it rewards so much XP and gold that 99% of the servers are doing it meaning there’s hardly anyone to do dungeons with.
So even if you hate it, you pretty much have to do it…
After being in one incursion and realizing that this is SoD for us now I’ll gladly play Plunderstorm, retail and WotLK but I’m not touching SoD anymore.
Sad times after really liking P1 and having an okayish time in P2!
Yep, went from 40 to 50 in one day.
Honestly, it feels cheap to have leveled up this quickly but at the same time with how fast phases go by I guess it is good that I can just start working on “the real game” now instead. I think I’ll go through the normal leveling process for alts tho.
this incursion stuff is absolutely terrible design , completely killed my urge to play the game anymore and i really frustrated HOW it killed the “journey” part of vanilla wow feeling. i am not gonna play it with this thing is continue.
Same, I tried it yesterday and my desire to experience that again is roughly on par with my desire to experience being waterboarded or fed through a wood chipper.
Absolutely dreadful.
You’ve got mobs that stealth, mobs that stun, mobs that silence, mobs which split into even MORE mobs when killed, mobs that fear, mobs the poison, etc, all of which do far more damage than their level would indicate and all of which re-spawn immediately upon death.
Seriously, who thought this was a good idea? It was taking me over 10 seconds to cast ONE incinerate or fear/banish because of all the push back. I couldn’t even play.
So I think, oh, I’ll start one of my level 40’s on the usual Hinterlands quests, only to be met with this identical problem of overly dense, instantly re-spawning monster groups, all of which seem to deal more damage now.
It feels like they simply don’t want me to play any more.
I hated it, just a gigantic mess. Did a few to try out, then I decided it wasn’t worth it and went back to dungeon and a few quests in Seering Gorge, yes I probably could have reached 50 a few hours earlier, that is however not worth the mess that the event caused, both mentally and in my bags
