No audio for WoW specifically

Hello there,

As the title suggests, I have no audio for WoW at all. And WoW is the ONLY application that does NOT produce any sound whatsoever.
Internet browser plays audio, Windows system audio works, Spotify works etc etc…

However, the moment I launch WoW, all it does is do nothing but dead silence for WoW.
Everything else in the background still plays audio fine (streams, music, videos etc.)
I assume the WOW sound system is somehow bugging/dying upon launch of the game.\

What I tried so far:

  • Verifying if sound was actually enabled in the WoW game settings and Windows sound mixer
  • Pressing CTRL+SHIFT+M and CTRL+SHIFT+S to see if that was the issue
  • Reboot PC
  • Searched for Windows/Nvidia updates
  • Scan and repaired the WoW installation
  • Disabled AddOns
  • Removed AddOns and WTF folder
  • Switched main audio device from VoiceMeeter Banana directly to my headphones.
  • Clean reinstall of WoW
  • Uninstalling and re-installing my Realtek system audio drivers since I found a blue post saying WoW’s sound system can bug out with your audio driver resulting in this.

None of the solutions above seemed to have worked for me and since the launch of Dragonflight I cannot enjoy any audio at all and I don’t know what to do anymore.

Hello Demonistical,

This is usually caused by a Windows setting. It’s possible to control the volume for each application separately in the Windows “volume mixer”.

In doubt, you can check the settings for the game in the “App volume and device preferences” :

  1. Open Windows Settings using WIN + I
  2. Navigate to System > Sound.
  3. Under Advanced sound options

In case of a conflict with your audio devices, you should uninstall them temporarily.

Very strange, I already reset the volume mixer settings before but it appears it kept it muted. No matter, the problem is solved! Thanks a lot!
