-holly appears and no one cares
-they show the cinematic and then immediately skip to the next thing without talking about the new expansion
-the highlights video was too barebone to carry the announcement without any additional information
-the deep dive panels had their schedule and duration changed. also, they’re too far apart
-no stream for said panels
this whole thing was a mess and, combined with the weak cinematic, has ruined the announcement of the new expansion
You shouldn’t need an announcement to build hype for a new xpac. You already know what you are getting. What difference does a trailer make in regards if you will buy the game or not anyway. Surely you already made that decision before anything was revealed.
what the hell are you talking about? is this the way to announce a new expansion? people have to use streamers and third party sites to get some info on the new expansion
And yeah, it’s been a bit of a mess so far.
I can’t say the roll-out has been very structured or presented very well.
If the goal is to hype me beyond the sum of its parts, I don’t think that’s been accomplished.
I don’t think it’s Gamescom per se, because Blizzard announced Legion at Gamescom and that was hype.
I think it’s just another example that Blizzard aren’t the Blizzard of old and they don’t have the muscle or the money to do what they’ve done before.
Because it’s not just WoW. You’ll note that there’s nothing noteworthy for Blizzard’s other games either. Which is not very reassuring.
I agree that it was a bit underwhelming to watch, but Gamescom is not a show for fans, it’s meant to reach a wider audience, and most importantly it’s an actual fair in Europe. The presentation they built on site is actually quite impressive, and it’s nice to have something like that on this side of the pond, so that local creators can get involved more easily.
My point is why do you need ‘hype’? if you played WoW for the last 10 years or more, you know EXACTLY what you are getting, therfore its already predetermined if you are buying it or not (for the majority of players)
How does watching a trailer make you decide if you are going to get the game or not? It doesn’t. You already know what you are getting next xpac.
Heavy focus on housing.
Raids
M+
Delves
New character
A few new zones.
This formula hasnt changed in years, why would it change now? You don’t need hype, you don’t need to hear the devs bigging up their own game. You already know if you are going to buy it or not.
not only providing a proprer announcement is the least they can do for their players it’s also a way to make wow and blizzard look good. midnight went from one of the most anticipated expansion to… a wet fart and most of that is because blizzard has failed in making people interested in the new expansion
We don’t know what will be the max level. (No official news about it)
We don’t know what character progression will look like.
We STILL didn’t get the promised VoD from Thursday Dev panel
Basically this whole reveal is crap.
If you’re not in Germany you have to run all over the internet like a headless chicken to get the info.
Fact is Blizzcon is a close event, made mostly for us: veteran players who know the game, the lore, the characters.
Why they chose Gamescon this time? I think mostly to bring new players in, those who never heard of WoW before, to hype those up promising houses, elves, battles etc…
It’s not a secret they are bleeding players after the trainwreck called Shadowlands and they are in dire need for people who lost faith and new ones to come and aid Azeroth.
More people watch gamescon and amongst them maybe some would try this addictive game we all love and play.
They are not bleeding players; they are doing well. Dragonflight was their best retention in years and TWW has been a success. They Average 50K a day in twitch and hit 200k with Raid world first.
They thought, Gamescom, lots of people and it was a mistake.
They prefer delves and small content, world content. Raiding is dying, M+ is dying. people want content they can solo or do with a friend or two. it’s why TWW is a success.
