Characters now learn the appropriate mount riding skill upon reaching the appropriate level without needing to visit a mount trainer:
Level 10 - Apprentice Riding
Level 20 - Journeyman Riding
Level 30 - Expert Riding
Level 40 - Master Riding
Developers’ note: Riding trainers will still exist in the world, but you will be unable to purchase riding skills from them.
From the PTR notes.
I personally find this sooooomewhat disheartening, even if I also understand it to a certain degree for certain players…
… but it feels like that’s another RPG-factor removed?
We already have class trainers being obsolete, and now we’ll have mount trainers just standing there too?
What do you think about this change:
Yay or Nay?
– My own TLDR take to summarise a few discussions below:
It’s a good QoL change, for sure. It was quite dumb how it is for alts - just send gold over from main (but it was like that from start too)
… and for newbies it was farming gold at a later stage, then poff; get it.
Another “solution” could have been to add MORE trainers so people didn’t have to go back to SW/org (or dala etc) to do it.
Another “solution” yet again could be to add some other function to said trainers, like add races - both ground and flying - to them.
Just add some RPG spark back into trainers (Both riding/flying and class)
Class trainers could link to small scenarios like warlock green fire, or Mage tower, etc.
Idk, just make something cool.
Overall, good QoL change; but I also don’t want to play a Lobby game so I don’t want to see too many RPG-purpose things removed either.
It’s a hard balance thing I think.
I’m neither for nor against, I’m just… thinking…
I think we over-analyse these things too much. What does it mean really? If I level a character when I hit those milestones I don’t log over to a character, transfer gold and come back and buy flying. Where is the rpg is that?
So now we’re discussing the merits of something that minorly affects people, almost never.
Replace the skills with a glyphing system to make your flying animation different at the trainer. Have your trip to the trainer maybe have a small weekly-quest event where you do a ‘dragon-race’ when that moves over to the old world. We don’t have to leave our old buddies out of a job.
So give them a purpose, yet something more in tune with the new direction of the game
Ye! It would be cool if they gave the old class trainers a purpose too!
I’m all for adding something new and “more fitting” to them all, as long as they don’t just… stand there.
Okay so, remove all but 4 classes:
Tank; Melee; Range; Healer
Remove all races, replace with box-figure.
Remove transmog, remove mount-looks, remove quest flavor text, remove cinematics, remove lore all together (I mean they kinda did…), remove the different design of bosses and places besides squares, remove lines from bosses…
List goes on!
I think that’d make this into a very Massively Multiplayer Open Poopile.
I’ll appreciate the convenience though like with the class trainers, I’d like for them to still serve a purpose. I really doubt they’ll get one though.
Go full — what? ^^
Questioning of - where it ends - ?
I’m not whining, I’m just saying; Where does “shrug” end?
You seem to dislike the RPG aspect of an MMORPG, no?
What purpose does it serve to have the rest I mentioned, if not for flavor?
Honest!
Also, you’re very dishonest when saying
We start with removing flight trainers and now you’re equating it to removing all but 4 classes and other pants on head stuff.
YOU said
Great, then they should do that too.
when I said they could - technically - remove a LOT of RPG-added features…
So, it’s not the OG topic persay, this is entirely questioning YOU in specific and your view of “Good, remove it all”.
Ya?
I assume from that that there is no cost now for this training as the automatic training wouldn’t be able to deduct the gold if you didn’t have it. Just that levelling I often have to choose between the Master Riding and the Garrison Tier 3 both on the 5000 gold mark.
I also assume its retrospective so all those chars that I have sitting without the faster flying will auto update.
This character has never trained any of the riding skills and again it smacks of diluting the game without being given the option not to do so. For those of us that enjoy RPG and set our own challenges it again devalues the game… to those that care about such things.
And so we add to the vast army of trainers that populate the World of Warcraft that do absolutely nothing.
Ehh. I can see why you feel the way you feel. Most people doing alts find it an annoyance so they’d be happy though, so it’d be seen as a positive overall.
Again, I - understand - the view of “Convenience > RPG”, but I also feel like it removes core aspects of the entire genre.
MMORPG.
Hope they do something with the trainers and don’t let them just stand there!
Same for class trainers.
Just make them do… anything! Mini game or… idk… Something cool.
Like warlocks and their green fire thing; they could have that kind of challenge for all classes on the class trainers.
And mount trainers could have mount courses, races, etc!
When I said great to removing a lot of things, most reasonable people wouldn’t be thinking “they removed flight trainers, next on the chopping block all but 4 classes and related graphics”.
And you’re also being imprecise. You said “a lot of RPG added features for the reason of shrug”. I did not ever say
No, but you said “Great, then they should do that too.” - aka; they should remove those RPG added features.
Again, what is the none-RPG feature for having the extreme amount of choice when we COULD boil it down to just four core classes with all the same spells, possibly even speccs?
Also, stop trying to backhand insult me by calling me unreasonable for throwing in theoretics into this based on YOUR answers.
It’s very low, try keep it to actually talking like adults. ^^
While its nice to not have to go learn them by yourself I would have made both the learning the original ground mount and flying mount speeds something you had to go back to town for, maybe even throw something else in for the RPG feeling where you had to use these in a scenario. They could always use level 20/40 automatically give the max speeds of each but have some sort of screen popup saying that their proficiency in riding/flying has increased to let them know the speeds have increased.
If you want to have an adult conversation perhaps you shouldn’t walk from removing flight trainers straight to removing almost all classes.
It’s not the basis for a reasonable discussion and clearly something no reasonable person would advocate, but here we are with you trying to interpret by response as such.
It’s not a backhand insult, its my stance. You went from the sublime to the ridiculous in one short hop.
Yeah! They - could - do so many cool things with RPG aspects in mind, but so far it is all just remove.
THAT is what makes me sad, you know~
The possibilties…
“I put on my robe and wizard hat”-RPG needs to continue, flourish!
I’m not certain where they are steering this boat right now, but it’ll be interesting to see where WoW is in 10 years again since it’s very different from OG already. (Both good and bad!)
