No quests at Hillsbrad Foothills

Just as an aside you can get to 60 and never venture out of Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor. But this won’t suit your game I fear.

If you don’t talk to Chromie after level 30 the mobs eventually become grey and you will one shot everything after around level 33. If you speak to Chromie you will scale all the way to 50. After that you resume to none Chromie time.

Chromie only fixes scaling otherwise irrelevant to your gameplan. Greys don’t give XP so Chromie just lets you scale to pre 50 content no matter where you are. Just talk to Chromie pre 50 and open your map and you will see the levels that each zone throughout the game give you. Without Chromie 80% go grey at 30. Sucks. So talk to Chromie and you can see the levels each area ratchet up to. After 50 Chromie is no more and you are into what I guess the game sees as the normal game. Doesn’t stop you earning XP from many activities though in the older regions, but not specifically questing.

My tip is to earn your XP by other means effectively and quickly and just do the grey quests to get your loremaster if that is what you want. Not so much fun one shotting stuff, but at least it doesn’t take much time… Hopefully you are doing Well Read while you are at it cus going back to all those books especially in dungeons can be a real pain.

PPS If you do all and I mean ALL the quests you will never get loremaster for each expansion cus you will be Level 50 by the time you complete just one of the expansions. All quests means ALL QUESTS.

As far as wowhead is concerned, for the sake of loremaster achievements the equivalent to Hillsbrad is Redridge. Also it seems like for Kalimdor the pairs are Bloodmyst/Northern Barrens and Darkshore/Azshara.

I’ve done 50-60 on Kalimdor archeology, had to buy TW gear to get somewhat decent gear for my level.

Just to be annoyingly pedantic, this isn’t completely true. The first, intact and uninvaded version of Vale of Eternal Blossoms is gone since the zone was revamped in patch 5.4. The legendary questlines of both MoP and WoD are gone, and I’d count the War of the Thorns too, which was only available in early BFA (a really stupid move since it has major lore in it, and th Darnassus evacuation quest is actually brilliant).

(and this is just gameplay. With 9.1.5 they removed / altered plenty of story and world flavor, as well).

As for the Cata revamps, I find it hit or miss. I love the idea of the story progressing and old zones getting new story and content. I love the fact that some zones are getting successfully healed like Western Plaguelands and Desolace, so it’s not only death and destruction. Also some of the zones’ dialogue and storyline is excellent such as Stonetalon Mountains and Badlands.

However, I really dislike how it is less and less like an actual world and more like separated video game zones. We barely have any quests that send you all over the world, everything has to be contained, and if the zone is taken by the opposite faction, there is next to zero content. It’s much less organic than the old design.

As the story progresses and characters develop it makes sense for the world to change to.

As an anecdote, Varian is still very much alive in many of my alliance characters’ garrison and it’s funny as hell

Yeah, there’s always something. Every patch removes something old, but no patch have had such an impact regarding removal of content as 3.0 or whatever number the first Cataclysm patch had.

Agreed, the entire schtick of Cataclysm was to alter the world. Definitely the most impact on old content.

I am a bit sad about the removal of some of the old quests, but I guess that’s life.

Original Deadwind Pass quests were gone with Legion. They didn’t bother putting Zidormi there.

There were quests in the Deadwind Pass??

Barely any, if there were any at all.

The only ones I remember seeing were the ones related to the Karazhan quest, and I think those are still there (the ones that award you with the ring that can teleport you)

I think they were related to attunement of Karazhan. I know attunements aren’t a thing anymore but some attunement quests still survived to this day like Molten Core or Arcatraz key. And since it was the only lore quest chain related to that place I don’t think it would have really hurt if they kept a past version of the place.

Wait, the Molten Core attunement quest is still up??? I thought they changed BRD

It’s still there. I see that quest marker whenever I go to farm MC.

And afaik BRD is one of the few classic dungeons that remain largely unchanged.

If you run the pet tamers for each of the zones in your specific continent ie Alliance Eastern and Horde Kalimdor you will half the time it takes you. Eastern is easiest for Arch cus you don’t get the really dreadful Tanaris.

The quest always was given outside BRD, and the Core Fragment still is outside BRD’s entrance to Molten Core. Also remaining is the quest for learning how to melt Dark Iron, in addition to the Black Forge for melting Dark Iron bars and the place for crafting stuff off Dark Iron Bars.

I guess. I was farming for the sandstone drake recipe so I didn’t really care about efficiency. I ought to get back to it eventually.

That’s kinda dope

FWIW… Zidormi is only present in zones where there are two, currently valid playable states for that zone; you will never find Zidormi offering to show you a pre-Cataclysm version of anywhere.

The only way to play Classic zones in their pre-Cataclysm state… is in Classic/TBCC

Technically the pet tamer outside Karazhan is a quest cus she has the quest marker over her head.

I guess that’s true lol
