Nothing wrong with it imo. Names and themes always were and will always be inspired by rl cultures and legends

Didn’t say it was wrong. Only that they probably didn’t have any deeper thinking behind it than that.

When they think deeper they come with Shadowlands. Id rather them remain simple and produce Cata tier expanssions

Shadowlands is the opposite of deep thinking. When people were speculating about Shadowlands, it mostly boiled down to “life vs death” which is such a fundamentally basic take on a conflict that you might as well go full binary. “It’s about ones versus zeroes”.

The little we see in Shadowlands is nothing compared to the actual amount of afterlives in Shadowlands.

Curiosity killed my cat, so I did some barebones research. He’s named Al’akir at least as far back as 2004, from an RPG book, which creates a bit of a chicken and egg situation. I’m assuming they always had planned to base them around Djinn and such, and they ran with that when developing cataclysm.
Also the illustration of him from the RPG book shadows & light is really rad.

Al’akir is the only elemental with a middle-eastern sounding name to my knowledge up until Cataclysm. They were named much like other elemental mobs and bosses, like Thunderaan, Cyclonian, Imperean… or uh, The Windreaver.

I was mostly referring to the premise of the expansion, although Blizzard saying they have an infinite amount of concepts but we’ll never see them sounds to me more like a girlfriend in Canada situation.

It really opens up the way for them to handwave and say “if you don’t like these four afterlives we’ve picked for you, you can just imagine there’s a better one for your character :)))”

I gave them the benefit of the doubt, because with infinite possibilities they could just say a new gate appeared outside Oribos and the next patch could take place in something radically different from what we’ve seen so far.

Sike, it’s just more of the Maw.

I just wanna kill gnolls & orcs man.
