Hello,
is there any way to restart sound without quitting and restarting game? Retail had that option when I used to play Draenor. So I wonder that Classic cannot do it (it is not in “System” UI).
Example: I listen to music so the game cannot use my sound device. Later I stop music and want to listen to the game but cannot without quitting.
Hi Pavelthemage
Reading over what you’ve described, it already sounds strange that you can’t listen to game audio while listening to music. If that’s not something that you’ve deliberately set up, it sounds like your music software is taking exclusive control of your sound system
You can check this by going into your Sound settings (right-click the Volume icon by your taskbar, and hit Sounds), double-click on your audio device in the Playback menu, and under the Advanced tab, check if “Allow applications to take exclusive control of this device” is ticked. If it is, and you want to be able to listen to music while playing a game without having to restart the sound device, untick it, hit Apply, and OK. Music and sounds can be muted in-game using the Ctrl+M and Ctrl+S hotkeys by default, so you can still mute them easily if you purely want to listen to music
Outside of that, changing your default Playback device to something else, then back to what you’re using, can force the game to reinitialise its audio. It’s not something that’s directly supported though
Hope that helps!
Hello Galcavon,
yes, my music player (Tidal) has exclusive control of audio device to prevent Windows mixing degrade audio quality.
In Warcraft I tried to switch playback device to “no sound” and back, but it did not help.
It is not an issue, I just hoped there would be some trick to avoid restarting the game in my situation. Thanks for your response.
For people who get here through Google: One workaround I have found that might help somebody is switching on my bluetooth headphones, wait for them to pair with my pc and then switching them off again.
