Non-Instanced guild halls/housing

I just saw this randomly appear in my youtube feed and would love if Blizzard made changes to the game which would open up plots all around the world with neighbourhoods of non-instanced houses/guild halls. WoD Garrisons failed because it was all the same and only you could see it. Having houses everyone else can visit would be amazing.

Where my Barrens homies at?

Not gonna lie, this just sounds like a horrible system. If they put limited house plots in WoW that you had to fight people over and can also be taken away from you, people’d scream at Blizzard to no end. Why’s it apparently alright when done by Square Enix?

yeah, absolutely not a fan of the limited housing plots. if they were instanced, fine, everything else, hell no.

i mean she says herself: “…but it is not instanced, this means there is a limited number of plots available per server and of course way more people want plots than there is a supply. so for the very, very high demand and the very low supply this results in bloodthirsty, cut throat, competitive environment unlike anything else in the game.”
so people abused the hell out of it to a point where they had to implement a random timer and now people sit there and spam a button in the hopes to get it. doesnt that sound fun?

housing is great and offers a substantial amount of potential content but i think it should either be available/affordable for everyone or not at all.

i mean, she literally explains how bad the housing situation was/is and then proceeds to read horror housing comments.

its not exactly the best video to advocate for a ff14 styled housing…not that theres anything great about it to begin with.

What are you looking for here? A million homes and google maps to find your way around?

I can bet if Blizz did that then the price would be dependent on the supply&demand. Aka only the rich could afford it.

I can already hear the “Omegz Blizz is forcing me to buy tokens to get a house. WoW is p2w!!!” chanting in the distance.

FF14 housing is being held back by their tech if I’m not mistaken and would probably require a titanic amount of work to be fixed hence why they just add servers and instanced personal apartments.

It’s been like that since 2.1 in 2013 (or was it early 2014?), I was there for the first wave of plots and even back then some of them were hard to come by after just a month.

Sorry ff14 can stay in the trash where it belongs, the only good housing in modern mmos is ESO / GW2 even if you can’t perfectly design every inch of your plot of land.

It’s called World of Warcraft. We have had too many instaces in the past few years and I don’t understand how making the world in the game a better place would be “bad for the game”. Garrisons failed because they were in an instance (and were ugly), not because housing is inherently bad. Make instanced housing in WoW again and no one will visit cities at all, leading to people crying that the game is dead.

imo wod garisons were a failure because they were not customisable enough and had features which impacted the gameplay and not because they were instanced.

keep housing purely cosmetic and then you wont have all the wod garison problems. make garisons rp friendly instead where you can hang out with friends or guild mates. thats pretty much all it takes.

and tbh, i d very much rather have instanced housing than having to deal with whatever cancerous crap ff14 has going on with non instanced housing.

if you design a game around open world pvp where players can kill each other and take their stuff while farming, they’ll ASK for outposts and garrisons they can use as buffers or safe spots.
in WoW whenever blizz adds a new content they have to force players into it by tying rewards or progression to it (one reason why garrisons failed).
the problem is in wow every player already has a “safe space” around them and no other player can harm them so player/guild owned real world outposts would be a pointless gimmick.

EDIT:
as you can see from the retardiation in some comments, wow players see player housing or garrisons as a RP element with no practical use. they don’t want a fortress, but a dollhouse

I completely agree. It would be such a good opportunity to bring back actual meaningful player interactions in the open world, but yeah… with how WoW Devs act on twitter and how everyone nowadays needs a “safe spot” in a virtual pixel world I guess this idea is more suitable for a fresh MMO out there and less for WoW, which is a shame really. Like in the game there has to be over 100 zones by now, and if every zone had only one neighbourhood (but in reality some zones can fit 5-10) with 5-10 plots each, every guy who would want it would get a house. The “replayability” they wanted to do with Torghasr would be there and it wouldn’t be forced. Keep it mind this would be per realm, so just do this times 100 and yeah everyone in the world would have a house, at least those who would care for it.

I would prefer something like in Wildstar.

The only way I would ever want player housing is if it is done properly.

Instanced non land grab player housing that everyone can own equally.

Games that have instanced non land grab player housing still allow others to come visit.

I don’t get the housing thing. I never enjoyed it. It’s present in SWTOR and quite developed, yet I spent like 5 minutes tinkering with it before I never entered the house again.

If I wanted to play Sims, I would.

The ffxiv housing system is complete garbage, but a good housing system could be found, wildstar had some good features for housing.

No.

It would mean limited supply and very few being able to get or even afford a plot. Severe shortages and massive competition for any upcoming open spot. While idea of player housing neighbourhoods is really cool (and I do love to just wander around wards in FFXIV and see player houses) - there is no way to actually implement them that would be equitable for all players.

Housing system itself is AMAZING, only downside is the scarcity and how many players (most?) simply cannot get a plot.

It’s one of those things that’s not going to appeal to everyone, so IMO it needs to be a side thing that people can do that has no power gain or any advantage attached to it. However it does need to continue beyond one expansion.

I just want my own customisable space. Even OSRS which is ancient has it’s own player housing that people can build on or totally ignore.
