Noob needs help please!

Hello!

So I’ve been playing on and off for a while, and I kept coming back purely because I love it, but I keep taking breaks because I keep feeling like I’m just not playing it right. I’ve played for many hours and I still feel like a noob in so many situations. So I think it would be easiest if I just list the questions I have, and even if I just get a reply to one question , I will be sooo greatful!

  1. When I’m on dungeons, when I go to type something in the chat, when I post the little bubble goes above my head with the text. Can everyone in the instant read that on their chat? Or only the people that can see the bubble?

  2. HOW DO PEOPLE KNOW THE WAY AROUND THESE DUNGEONS SO WELL?! It amazes me, if I loss sight of any other player, I’m basically lost. Is there a trick to this?

  3. When it comes to clothing, do I have to equipt trinkets to use them… I don’t even know if that makes sense. Like if they have a ‘use’ do I have to also wear it…?

  4. Should I spend my time questing or doing dougeons?

  5. How do I make a group to help me in a quest? Or is that not a thing…?

  6. Just anything that is going to make me a better warlock. I really love playing a warlock and I think I’m good at that part. But I feel like a noob when it comes to being a good world of Warcraft player…

Any help would be so appreciated!

Welcome to Azeroth!

Playing for “hours” here is not a lot. When you’ve been playing for thousands of hours, there will still be lots to learn and explore. People have been playing this game for hours per day for years - some for 14 years - so there is plenty of time to learn.

Q1. It depends in which chat you said your message.

if you just typed your message, and it shows in White for you, or if you typed /s first, like

/s Hello, everybody!

That’s typing in Say, and it can be seen in the chat box of anyone close to you.

If you type it to Instance chat, with /i like

/i Hello, everybody!

then anybody in the same Instance can see the message in their chat box, even if they’re not near you

Q2. They’ve done them dozens, or hundreds, of times before, on previous characters they have levelled. At least 4 out of 5 levelling characters, by my observation, belong to people who are “bringing up alts” - making extra characters.

Q3. Yes, you can only use the trinkets you have equipped. You must equip a trinket before you can use it.

Q4. Either, depending on your level, what you want, what you enjoy. Quests are a surer thing, and generally, as you get to higher levels especially, quests are faster for levelling, but you do have a chance to get sligthtly better gear from dungeons. If you enjoy dungeons, it’s fine to do them even if they’re a bit slower, because you can keep questing while you wait for your dungeon queue.

Q5. It is a thing, but there aren’t many quests where you will need a group, especially as a Warlock with a Voidwalker, so people don’t do it much these days. One traditional way is to post a Looking For More message in General chat, like:

/1 LFM name-of-quest

where you can shift-click the name of the quest in your quest log to create a link to the quest that people can read.

You can also hit I to open the Group Finder, and then choose Questing and enter the name of the quest you want help with.

However, it’s not likely that you will get quick answers, since, as I say, most people aren’t looking for groups for questing.

What quests have you had problems with?

Q6. You can look at icy-veins.com

https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/destruction-warlock-pve-dps-guide

for how to play Destro Warlock at 120. You don’t have all your abilities yet, so it will suggest things you don’t have, but it does cover the important things. It will also suggest Consumables and Enchants you can’t use yet, so don’t worry about those.

The shorter Warlock Levelling Guide

https://www.icy-veins.com/wow/warlock-leveling-guide

is specific to levelling in Affliction spec, so may not be useful for you if you want to play as Destro.

Thank you so much, that has really helped! At least knowing that hopefully if I keep playing, that all this knowledge will come to me!

There was only a quest recently, I think it was a daily quest that I got in Orgrimmar. It was to defeat 4 big boss like characters. It was okay because when I got there, there were about 12 players about to fight, and we all defeated him. But I was worried they were in a group and they might see it as I was just jumping on so I could get the loot…

Thank you for all this information, it seems I’ve got a few more thousand hours to be getting on with

Seeing as this has been already replied to, I’ll just give my short personal input on each question:

  1. You’re talking in /s chat and only people near you can see what you are talking about. For instances use /p or /i (although I would recommend going with /i always as it seems to translate to /p when needed nowadays).

  2. I’ve done each dungeon that you’ll enter at least a hundred times, and so have many others. I remember their layouts and the optimal routes in my dreams.

  3. Yes, you need to equip them and then use them if they have an use effect. They’re either stat ticks, on equips, or use trinkets, and only in the last scenario do you ever have to “use” them (drag them to your bars and use them as you would any ability in that case). Some rings also have use-effects, although that’s rare.

  4. Whatever floats your boat. Personally I do both, but tend to lean more towards questing since I’ve done the dungeons so many times.

  5. Ask in /1 (general chat) or see if there are any players nearby. I wouldn’t recommend using the LFG (looking for group) tool for this since it’s very unlikely that anyone will be looking there unless it’s a max level quest.

  6. Read up here: icyveins.com. Navigate to warlock and then choose the spec you want to play with and see what they tell you about talents and rotations and etc etc. Once you get to max level there will be more opportunity to perfect your gameplay.

Amazing, thank you for your input too, this has really helped so much. Now I can actually use my trinkets which I never had before, and I’m going to just do more doungeons and pay attention. Thank you both for the help!

Do post again if you have any more questions!

To get loot or finish some quest you need to “tag” enemy atleast 1 time.
Tag - do damage to enemy or heal player who’s taking damage from enemy. So make sure you atleast tag once during whole fight.
At low lvl just survive and don’t die for world bosses(that 4 bosses quest) - most people don’t mind low lvl player in group. It’s not to worry about even if you feel like you are leeching on them.
