Not bait: Why Garrosh was a good warchief

Terrible.

We had the begining of Warforge/Titanforge there.

We had the ‘new talent tree’

We had horrible homogenized class design

We had horrible forced dailies

We had Pandas

I can continue.

You know that we have all this just 1000 times worse? How does this make MoP worse than Legion/BfA/WoD?

Ah… I didn’t say anything about Shadowlands though.

I’m just sick to death of this endless back and forth between the factions.
It makes little logical sense to me that we’d go back and forth so often.
If we cooperate as much as we do it doesn’t make sense to just start a war again.

So either war or cooperation, not this constant back and forth.

Say what you want abiut the theme and the pandaren, but you can NOT rack on the soundtrack. The MoP soundtrack is literally the best soundtrack in the game.

Zones chingchong music was awful.
Only raids and dread waste had good soundtrack but outside of them… torture.

Literally everyone agrees that classes have never been better than in Mists.

Not those that played before mop.
Just because it went worse after mop does not mean it peaked at mop.

I personally believe classes peaked during cataclysm.

Regardless if he was evil or not I did not want to kill him.The Horde lost a cool character back then just how they risk losing Sylvanas as well.

We got crappy characters like Zappy boy and Baine instead.

Garrosh did deserve better.I liked him in wotlk and cata.

It’s very good, but for me, I preferred Wrath - Storm Peaks still gets me right in the feels, and Ice Crown, Grizzly Hills, just love it.

But yeah, MoP music was great, definitely not ‘pain in ears’

He was the best Warchief that Horde has ever had.
Until Blizzy decided to shove a Mary Sue writing up his a$$ and completely ruin him in MoP.

The guy who pushed Garrosh beyond the line was Thrall himself with his own overblown views of Gromash providing an impossible role model to live up to.

A problematic person who Thrall excused not only over and over again, but continued to give favourable treatment to the Warsong for a long time moving forward.

Garrosh in Cataclysm was everything the Horde ever wanted and could have to be honest.

I starting to warm up to Gorrosh the way Basic Campfire used to do - The way he puts on those shoulders is just praise worthy :relieved:

Did you ever read Warcrimes and what he have done to the Trolls in the Horde?

OK, someone hold my beer.

Your first point, about Garrosh warning Thrall he would be a terrible Warchief is the first and last good thing he did.

Stonetalon? You know that was Alex Afrasiabi making a goof. He even admitted it, Garrosh should never have had that redeeming questline. He admitted he went off message by making him honourable.

If you remember the dialogue in Grommash Hold,Garrosh can’t even keep his gob shut whilst Thrall is still -in the room- before he starts on Vol’jin, Vol’jin says He is happy to support as an Advisor, Garrosh flips his lid and says he needs no advisors, especially not a Troll. This is like minutes after he has been made Warchief, and already he has insulted one of its oldest races.

The Mak’gora? He was blameless of the poisoning, but he knew full well why Cairne was challenging him. He knew Cairne thought he was unfit to be Warchief.

He’s not even a good military planner. In Northrend he hung on Saurfang’s coat tails, in Cata we have the brilliant moment of “WHat kind of idiot sends his air defence fleet away?” “A Winner!” Garrosh then proceeds to lose the battle, and his entire air fleet. A winner indeed?

Now, Theramore. You are aware he did not -let- the civilians escape? That was not Garrosh’s doing. He did not care about civilian damage (Indeed he later uses captured Theramore civilians for his troops target practice. It was -Baine- who warned Jaina to get the civilians out of Theramore.

Now, MoP, this is where it all went wrong for Garrosh.
He is a Coward. He refuses to face Vol’jin and sends an Assassin after him. The Trolls seem to know about this, hence the shouts of ‘Vol’jin Lives’ in a kind of ‘Remember the Alamo’ way. So the Trolls know what Garrosh has done.
Baine is like all “Whoah, dude, seriously?” The Grimtotem attack Thunder Bluff. What does Garrosh do? Washes his hands of the situation and is too chicken to send his precious Orcs to help out. Who helps out? The frickin’ Alliance have to come and clean up Garrosh’s mess. So thats two strikes. He’s alienated the Tauren, and the Trolls, two of the three oldest races in the Horde. He capitalises on this by doubling down, and imprisoning those races and kicking them out of Orgrimmar. He’s clearly insane at this point
Then, and this is genius, He starts going over and calling Sylvanas a ‘female dog’. He -knows- how she will react to that, unless he really is as thick as ten bears. She already has Orcs garrisonning her City since the Wrathgate, does he think there won’t be comebacks? He is wasting her people’s unlives, he wants a Deepwater port on Eastern Kingdoms. Guess what Champ? He already has -two!- Sunsail Anchorage and Quel’danas. So by this point he has pretty much alienated the Tauren, the Trolls, and the Forsaken, having the loyalty of the Blood Elves, and the Goblins. Heck, Lor’themar even -warns- Garrosh about how bad the situation is. Garrosh “I am glad, Lor’themar to see that you are loyal to me” Lor’themar, “No, we are loyal to the Horde” Garrosh “I -AM- the Horde!” Lor’themar “No, you are just its Warchief”

And he’s right, we’ll come back to the Horde Blood Oath in a bit.

This is priceless. The Huojin cast in their lot with the Horde. Garrosh has an unparalled opportunity here! He has natives of the same species as the Continent he wants to paint Red! This is such a fantastic opportunity to learn about them, and send an envy who -is- one of them! This is a gift from the Ancestors, what a boon! What does he do? What anyone with the nous of a stunned Kitten would do, throw them into a Gladiator Pit and antagonise them. Smart move champ, way to make them want to help you.

In fact, lets look at his genius summary of the Horde, for Ji Firepaw.

Garrosh Hellscream says: They are ignorant, and blind to reality. Look around you, pandaren.
Garrosh halts in front of Sauranok the Mystic.
Garrosh Hellscream says: You will find no better partner in battle than an orc.
Garrosh walks over to Gotura Fourwinds.
Garrosh Hellscream says: The tauren have made themselves useful. Look - this one is a shaman.
Garrosh Hellscream says: Even a blood elf can hold a sword.
Garrosh Hellscream says: Do you see it? Everyone in my Horde earns their keep. You and your friends will be no exception!”
[/quote]
Garrosh is cool being patriotic about Orcs, that’s legit.
“THe Tauren can be useful, Look- this one is a shaman” Garrosh, are you off your nut? A Century old Tauren was kicking your behind around in a Mak’gora, and was only killed because your axe was poisoned. ‘Can be useful?’ ‘Can be?’ What are you smoking?
“Even a Blood Elf can carry a sword” What the everliving Heck? Garrosh, have you forgotten your own history? Where you came from? First time you saw a Blood Elf, they were dancing the Devastation Tango over your -Entire- Planet. What does that mean? If they are that ‘weak’ then why do you use them to do the heavy lifting in Pandaria because you don’t want to risk your precious Orcses in doing the tough jobs? Lor’themar ain’t dumb, he figures that out right away.
So lets see, That’s the Trolls you have betrayed, the Tauren you have betrayed, the Forsaken you have grievously insulted, the Blood Elves you have betrayed, and the Pandaren you have wasted and grievously insulted. Way to go dude.
I mean at this point, Garrosh Hellscream deserves an Alliance Medal. He has come closer to destroying the Horde than -any- Alliance leader has. He truly is an Alliance hero!
He even tortures Ji Firepaw and almost kills him? What the heck? He’s about the only leader who is still on side? Even Gallywix has followed the money, only the Blackfuse follow Garrosh.
So he has managed, to Betray and Alienate every race in the Horde, bar Orcs.

Now, lets have a look at that Blood Oath, shall we?
HORDE!

“Lok’tar Ogar! Victory or Death-it is these words that bind me to the Horde. For they are the most sacred and fundamental of truths to any Warrior of the Horde.

I give my flesh and blood freely to the Warchief. I am the instrument of my Warchief’s desire. I am a weapon of my Warchief’s command.

From this moment until the end of days I live and die- For the Horde!”

Seems pretty straightforward, right? Wrong. The thing with Oaths is because in shamanic and warrior cultures they are so binding, you have to -really- pay attention to the wording, and the Blood Oath of the Horde is no exception. Clever thing about Oaths, is that the person the Oath is given -to- can break the Oath as easily as the person -taking- the Oath. So lets see where Garrosh goofed Ironically “Serving the Horde, or being Crushed Beneath it”

“Loktar Ogar! Victory or Death-It is these words that bind me to the Horde, For they are the most sacred and fundamental of truths to any Warrior of the Horde”.

This is legit, the oathtaker is swearing to -The Horde- ( the use of ‘The’ is important.)

Now this is where it gets interesting. “I give my flesh and blood freely to my Warchief. I am the instrument of my Warchief’s desire. I am a weapon of my Warchief’s command.”

Note the change in language? “-My- Warchief.” This is where Garrosh flubbed, and ironically the hill that Sylvanas chose to die on also (Well, lose the position anyway)

Garrosh failed to uphold his role as Warchief, thereby releasing the others (apart from Orcs) from their Oath. Or do you think a Troll would regard Garrosh as ‘My Warchief’ after what he did to Vol’jin and their people?” Do you think a Tauren would regard Garrosh as ‘My Warchief’ after he abandoned Thunder Bluff after killing its Chieftain, then exiling their people? Do you think a Forsaken would regard Garrosh as ‘My Warchief’ after their city was under lockdown occupation, their lives were being wasted, and their beloved Queen insulted publically?” Do you think the Sin’dorei regarded Garrosh as ‘My Warchief’ after he insults them, and then uses them as cannon Fodder because he is too cowardly to send his own people?

No. To the other races of the Horde, he is no longer ‘My Warchief’ but simply the Warlord of the Orcs. Garrosh has failed to obey his side of the Blood Oath, and in so doing, absolves the other Horde races of theirs. (Not that Blood Elves ever swore one, Thrall just went “Yep, you’re in” after they killed Dark’han Drathir.)

Last line is a salutory -reminder- to any megalomaniac Warchief.

“From this moment till the end of days, I fight and Die “For the Horde!”

Not “For the Warchief…but For the Horde”

By the time the rebellion happens, the Horde is the Trolls, the Tauren, Sin’dorei, Forsaken, Goblins and some Orcs.

As said, Lor’themar even -reminds- Garrosh of that last line “I AM the Horde!” “No, you are just its Warchief” LTT is directly -warning- Garrosh about how bad the situation is, that he has failed the Horde, and is about to lose the Blood Elves also.

Garrosh then just goes full on mental, and gets his just deserts. He can’t even take responsibility for his own actions, screaming at Thrall “You made me what I am!” Err. No, Thrall made you Warchief, He didn’t tell you to dissolve the Horde and turn it against yourself. That really was Garrosh making his own Destiny.
