we are not trying to pick a class to play here, just an og warrior confirming the absolute garbage that prot was…and obviously never again
How can you be both “absolute garbage” and also the only viable tank at the same time?

Warriors were tanking in vanilla because no one else could. Being the only viable option means you are the “best” and “worst” option at the same time. Which is of course completely different from being well designed, fun to play and a viable option.
Alas in Cata, Warrior design is improved and very fun to play (unlike Vanilla) but relative to other tanks lacks viability. Much like how a class can be badly designed and be the best (or only) option, a class can be designed well and be the worst option.

Maybe you just don’t like tanking then? In terms of being fun Warrior at least in MoP was cool whenn it came to tanking packs that resulted in him being one of the best tanks for challenge mode gold runs. In fact Prot warrior, DC priest and Ele shaman could carry the whole group in those runs. I was maining Prot Warrior in MoP had DK as an alt and to me playing warrior was harder, but more rewarding and versatile, while DK was easier and less fun.

Warriors were godlike, so naturally they didn’t got as many shiny toys as druids and paladins in TBC or Paladins and DKs in Wrath. However they were pretty much good dps, so there was always a role for warrior to play, not in t7-t8 that is.
