Now that a DK tanked 13/13 heroic in cloth gear

… am I still delusional for thinking that perhaps tank balance in Cata should be looked into?

See my old thread from june, for reference;

Edit: Since then, I have also done some tanking myself. Blood DK is definitely the winner. Your 5 man heroic healer dies to a mechanic halfway through the boss? No problems, just chain some cooldowns and death strike and it won’t even be noticeable. You can’t pull off something like that on any other tank.

The balance team just buffed Ele Shaman by reinstating their their pre-nerf t12 tier set bonus. That’s right, they just buffed an already solid S tier spec that can use the legendary staff right before Firelands.

Meanwhile, Feral, Fury and Enhance are in the toilet, along with the two other ranger & mage specs, which basically just don’t exist in Cata.

Shadow Priest t12 tier set also received a nerf in the exact same patch as Ele Shaman’s. Shadow Priest is solid meh tier at the moment, yet their tier set did not have the nerf reverted. Surely that one would have made SO MUCH more sense for a revert?

As an Enhance main, I have been praying for some buffs (or just even a freaking bug fix for our stupid Searing Totem, which targets random mobs and doesn’t even function if you drop it prior to starting the boss fight). Seeing a buff to Ele Shaman was like a massive kick in the teeth.

I would not trust this dev team to look after a house plant. let alone actually get balancing decisions right.

Dont get baited by the elemental t12 change, blizzard wont put any effort into cata, especially in rebalancing specs

Well one of the 2 devs working on Classic probably plays an ele-shammy
And the other dev plays BlooDK.

Woke up early on my day off and took a quick look at the first Firelands logs. The Progress one was interesting, their blood DK is #1 damage done and #1 overall healing done (looking at encounters).

Will probably look at the full video from their world 2nd clear later on, and dig deeper into logs to try and see see what’s going on, but I mean, the looks of it…

Edit: It’s most likely due to character swapping. Should have thought of that, honestly. But hey, it was 5.30 am and I was sleep deprived

YOu know Firelands was cleared a long tiem agon. There is no such things as World first in old expansion of Wow in 2024. This is like when D2R was out - someone that killed Diablo on Hell to claim world first
Play what is fun for you, if you dont have fun just leave  Nobody cares about progress or logs. If you care about other guild or people or logs, you have a brain injury

What has anything you wrote to do with the subject of the thread?

If you read what is says instead of instantly trying to tell other ppl what to think or do it says “Cataclysm CLASSIC”. Thats right - Classic is not Vanilla that we did 13 years ago, so yes, it is indeed world first in CLASSIC. Now go away and let the rest of us stay on topic of the thread.

There is no such thing as vanilla, there is WoW and after that Wow - BC and the others. There is no WF after it was already cleard 13 years ago. Lets say Audi creates - AUDI A4 , will it be world first ? only because it has not been made for years ?

Well, if we are being technical, Classic is an entirely different game to original WoW, TBC, Wrath, Cata. Nobody had ever completed Firelands on Heroic in Cataclysm Classic. Therefore, it would technically be a world first.

Using your own logic, if Audi created an A4 Classic (which looked similar to, but was not identical to the original), it would be classed as the very first A4 Classic in existence.

Again, there is nothing new about FIRELANDS or ICC or other thing. It is the same game. Only classic adnys, can claim that they did world first after 13-14 years of old content.

Nobody said anything about the content being new or unique. I personally could not care any less about world firsts in retail, let alone classic.

But the point I was making was that you are technically wrong, as the current iteration of Classic is different from the original game. Being the first people to clear the raid in the Classic version is an accomplishment (not one that I give much weight to, but it is what it is).

Can I ask a serious question

You guys are obviously “seasoned” players

You must be aware every version of wow has always been like this, even retail right now the flagship is a mess in terms of balance?

But you all chat away about it, saying same things over and over

Now either the ability to somewhat balance class’s and specs so they are at least playable, is beyond blizz’s capabilities and has been for 20 years of wow or…

it’s designed this way on purpose

How to make players continue playing and level up new characters? - change the meta…gg blizz

I think the primary reason cata isn’t as difficult as many remember is because the state of blood DK in the final patch was so much more crazily overpowered than at any other stage of the expansion.

If they actually nerfed blood DK back to the level of the others or even just back to the level they were in Firelands in og then it would send shockwaves across the game, the difficulty of every part of the game would increase dramatically.

Buffing other tanks is tricky since it’s not just about numbers, it’s about self healing and utility. Having 4 game breakingly overpowered tanks instead of 1 probably doesn’t make the game better and breaks it in other ways.

Kind of just a consequence of running Classic expansions on end-patch balance. Back in the day BDK was seen as pretty awful before their rework going into Dragon Soul.

I rolled BDK this time around because I was (and still am) confident that the two-and-a-half man + typewriter monkey dev team handling all of Classic likely wouldn’t dare nerf something as “important” as a tank.

I’d love to see the other tanks buffed up, but after rolling Feral DPS for WotLK Classic and being subjected to the absolute circus that was Zirene and Aggrend during Ulduar, I needed some level of insurance for the sake of my own sanity. I wouldn’t trust the heads we have atm to do custom tank balancing any semblance of justice.

You could nerf DK mastery and damage by 40% and they’d still be the strongest tank pick.

Why buff prot warriors when no one is playing them? There are what, a handful of heroic parses from FL for Prot warriors.

On the verge of cancelling my subscription to be honest. If I can’t find any raids, there’s no point in subscribing. And - understandably - no one wants to take Prot warriors who do less damage than other tanks, have fewer cooldowns, have no self healing, have lower survivability, have less utility… and what little utility we have is on a shared CD.

Prot Warrior has always been garbage. It was garbage in vanilla, it was garbage in TBC, it was less garbage in Wrath and started to become really fun to play. It is really fun to play in Cata, by far the most fun tank to play, however the relative power compared to other tanks means we are not desired.

Blizz could have made so many little tweaks and changes; make Alys hatchlings stunnable by their imprinted player for example (huge buff to warriors), make stuff spell reflectable… but no let’s make sure elemental shaman are doing 10% more damage.

I raided 1 out of 2 weeks so far, and it doesn’t appear I am going to get a spot for FL week 3. Feeling really disheartened after really enjoying P1+2 and getting raid spots because my parses and performance meant people would overlook my class and bring the player. Now it seems I “might” get spots a few months from now when all the other tanks quit playing and RLs are desperate.

I’m sorry, what?
Who the hell do you think was tanking in vanilla if not warriors?

just because it was the only class with a non meme tank spec it doesn’t mean they were fun to play does it?
