Now you have to use 2 tokens to upgrade a starter account

I just decided I would upgrade my second account from starter by adding 1 month through bnet balance and guess what? I now have to buy 2 tokens. To anyone who defended this change by Blizz saying “you can just add the game time directly” well guess what, in such a situation you can’t. Really good change  . Not greedy at all. Guess I won’t be getting a second account after all.

It is a stupid change and I don’t think anyone is defending Blizzard. If you’re paying real money you have to buy 2 months at a time or do the start/cancel subscription workaround. But if you’re buying tokens for gold you can just add the game time directly.

Actually more than a few people defended that change claiming that you can still simply add the gametime directly through the use of the token. Which is not true at all if you want to add the gametime to an account that does not have the gold for the token yet belongs to you.

It’s completely stupid I wanted to gift my friend 13 euros of Balance but he can’t get one month subscription to try out the game so he won’t…

It’s even worse for new players, you’re not going to spend 26 euros to try a game but 13 is not that bad.

Do you not still get a free month when you buy the battlechest?

Oh, my bad. Yeah, you can’t add it to another account.

There is no battlechest anymore. You pay the subscription and play BfA, no extra charge.

There is that workaround - subscribe, let Blizzard take the first payment and then cancel subscription. It is stupid that we have to do it, but you end up paying only for one month.

Yeah but I never spend my irl money on WoW unless I really want to, I have gold for that, and I wanted to gift my balance to a friend but Blizzard loves to make things hard.

Ah ok, I wasn’t aware of that change.

Do these still work - https://www.amazon.co.uk/World-Warcraft-New-Player-DVD/dp/B07ZT6PX63/ref=sr_1_5?dchild=1&keywords=world+of+warcraft&qid=1622893517&refinements=p_89%3ABlizzard&rnid=1632651031&s=videogames&sr=1-5

Being in UK we are not allowed anymore since Dec 2020 to gift anything apart from mounts/pets :frowning:

Ugh-…That seems horrible, I was gifted balance so many times, but I guess codes for balance still work?

Really no idea as i wanted to gift my friend a month at xmas to get her back into the game and we couldnt do it that way so we had to

Me buy a token and sale it —
Give her the gold and hope the price stayed same
She bought a token from AH and played for a little while

So it cost me £17 to give her a months play in a round about way :frowning:

wdym “buy two tokens” ?

I know there’s a delay for the account to be delayed, are you sure they made it mandatory to add months of gametime rather than it merely be a delayed unlock procedure ?

Oh yeah and don’t forget to recruit your 2nd account, you’ll get a free month on your main account every 3 you add on your 2nd account.

In order to set up an account with gold you used to be able to purchase a token with gold>convert to bnet balance> buy 1 month of gametime for 13 eu. Now there is only option for 2 months which means you need 2 tokens to get the second account up and running.

I agree it’s an absolute mess the way it works now.

But, would it not have been possible to just send her a Tenner on Paypal and have her buy it herself, rather than you spending £17 to get the gold to then just convert into Game time anyway?

I understand there’s a million reason why you might not want to send someone a random Tenner, but it would have saved you £7 at least.

edit /facepalm… dah I just remembered… you can’t buy a £10 1 month game time anymore. who’s stupid idea was it to remove that.

i am not defending Blizz for changing the token system…BUT, you just dont get how it is right now…

  1. not a single thing has changed about the subscription version of the game (if you pay with IRL money and want it just for yourself, the system is the same as it was before, there are same deals and everything, you can sub for 1 month, 3 months or 6 months…if you dont believe me go to you battle net laucher and check in the SHOP for WoW)
  2. if you want to gift the game time you have to buy 2 tokens, sadly thats how it works at the moment, but you can game the system a bit, if you wanna pay for 1 month of game time on your 2nd account, you can just easily create a lvl1 alt (or allied race) on the server where you have your main (or the server where you have most of your gold on) and just send the ammount of gold needed to buy 1 token and then you can redeem that token for 30 days of game time

You can’t access mail on starter accounts so you can’t buy game time before buying game time.

And I am also pretty sure there is a 1k gold limit though I am not 100% sure.
