NVidia GeForce Driver - Flickering

This keeps happening for nth time now.
Almost every single time NVidia pushes a new driver, something breaks with WoW textures.
I’m having my entire screen flicker when in Orgrimmar.
Sunset in Zuldazar flickers.
Character assets flicker like crazy on character selection screen and in character panel.

NVidia usually pushes a fix to this, but in the past 2 Driver updates this issue has not been addressed at all.
It’s becoming super annoying as it’s only happening in WoW.
NVidia forums are also reporting these issues, but sadly no action is being taken as of now.

I know it is a common misconception, but Blizzard don’t actually own nVidia, and therefore have no influence over nVidia’s development cycle or goals.

I never said they do lol.
It’s just that this happens almost every time NVidia pushes a driver and I thought I’d address it.
The more people voice this issue, the better; and it’s worth trying, who knows maybe even Blizzard nudges them a bit to fix this issue that players are having.

Hi Kai,

Do you have multiple GPU’s?

I had this issue as I have multiple cards and running SLI. The solution is to disable SLI for WoW and WoW Classic and I actually have this issue for a lot of older games as well that are very well SLI optimised.

Solution:
Go to NVidia Control Panel, should have an icon in the system tray on the bottom right.

Select the 3D Settings Tab
Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings

Search for WoW, in the drop down list and if it is not there then search for the .exe by clicking add, the .exe will be in the location of your wow installation.

Usually C:\Program Files (x86)\World of Warcraft_retail_

Once added scroll down the menu 2. and look for SLI Rendering Mode and change it to single GPU, click apply and the flickering should stop.

Sadly I just use one GPU
I’m more than certain that the Driver update is the issue, as before the newest driver my game worked just fine and without any texture flickering.

A couple of people brought it up at NVidia forums, I thought I’d also bring it here to see if anyone else is having the same problem after the Driver updates.
I might consider doing a fresh Graphics Driver installation to clear up any possible corrupt files and see if that helps. (But almost never does, sadly D:)

Thanks for helping out btw!

Have you tried changing the refresh rate under display > Change resolution in the Nvidia settings? Go from 60Hz to 59 or 50?

I imagine it definitely is the driver though but changing settings may solve the problem till the next update.

All else fails, you could always roll back to an older more stable one.

The graphics card and driver version in use is?

The latest drivers (post Doom Eternal driver) seem to have this issue with 20 series cards. The DCH driver that is installed by Windows update for 20 series cards does not seem to be affected, but I don’t know the version number.

All I can tell you from my personal use is that 442.59 works fine on GTX970.

Hey! My Graphics card is GTX 1050 Ti
The new Driver is 445.87, and also a version before that caused issues. Both glitched with flickering textures came every now and then…but drivers before that didn’t cause it though.
It happened once more back in the past where a lot of people addressed it here and on NVidia forums.
On Nvidia forums they keep complaining about textures flickering in DOOM and other games, including WoW…but so far we didn’t get a fix to it, sadly.

All these updates are really making me paranoid now, even Windows 10 update messed up my Start Menu after updating this month xD

Had the same flickering, and read on another post, to try and disable MSAA under graphics->display->anti-aliasing->none , That solved this issue for me.

Thx a lot, Boogieknight, that solved the isue for me!

On the Nvidia Support channel there is a hot fix that seems to be working to get rid of the flicker - maybe try that?

In your WOW settings: Go into System and Advanced and changing Graphics card from Auto Detect to my 2080 fixed the flickering.
