Odyn's Fury, the dead talent

If you got any wish to see Odyn’s Fury played - I implore you to leave any comment to not let this post outright die.

The situation is that currently Odyn’s Fury (OF) got no niche and is not brought for any content. It does bring more ‘instant’ AoE burst damage than its counterparts (above 8 targets), yet it does not give effective value even there. If the fight is longer than 15 secconds, it is already behind. If it is longer than 30 it is left in the dustbin. In all but the most outlandish scenarios, OF is just a worse option to chose than its counterparts.

The problems:

  • As mentioned, it got no real niche in to shine. It simply does not fill a spot in the talent echonomy. It is subpar in M+, raids, PvP, AoE or ST alike.
  • It’s value is locked to the talent Titan’s Torment (Casting OF when you use Avatar). So it can’t effectively be its own button. It will be picked in tandemn, so both suffer or shine together.
  • The talent lock causes it to directly compete with Anger Managment’s goals of maximum Recklessness uptime. It bashes heads with Onslaught and loses out on all fronts (thanks to that ability not working as intended especially).

Now I do understand and do not intend that Odyn’s Fury should be the best pick in all situations. Currently, it arguably not that ‘bad’. It is playable as a meme or when you do most content (where your damage output is unlikely to be your bottleneck). Yet, I also do not wish this ability that was the staple big AoE burst button to be left bleeding out in the gutter as it currently is.

As such, I will implore for some solutions:

  • Have OF unbound from it’s talent counterpart. Move the power into OF itself. Doing so will make it at least a better option compared to Onslaught, Ravager or Recklessness.

Note: I have no wish, or believe that anyone or myself want OF to crash with angermanagment playstyle. That is the arguably most fun Fury playstyle.

  • Give the nodes for Odyn’s Fury some actual weight. I am so boring as to say, give it real visual damage numbers - not 10% with meatcleaver attached or attackspeed.
    I suggest making it more damage and it casts a whirlwind on top. More numbers activates neurons. Attackspeed on autoattacks is mindboggling boring, unshackled, autos could now do fire damage and have higher base damage during the Fury. Bigger and flashier numbers activates neurons.
  • Such a change would only work if Odyn’s Fury actually did damage and its effects in itself (and not as a double up with avatar activation).

Note: With Odyn’s Fury freed from the shackles of avatar - Node effects could be many times more powerful and still be fair. Example could be increase the initial hit by 50%, then add damage to the DoT part with some whistles. Make it do radiant damage or shadow, give it a leeching compoment - maybe even a CSHB proc). Key is to hide most of the power in the nodes.

Finally, I thank you for reading this post. I hope I am not alone in this. That Odyn’s Fury again will be seen as a staple ability to bring; not something brought as a meme.
