I do not know why people think, that she is more powerful now? Yeah she may have had a pact with Helya, but she most likely only received the lamp out of the deal, that was shattered by Genn. Oh yeah, remember when a simple worgen beaten the Banshee Queen who simple handed the Lich King his butt?
Well that goes without saying. However it strike me as odd that the coolest wow villain with the largest armoy on Azeroth would be an easier challenge than an old and tierd Sarufang. Did Bolvar just sit on his back doing nothing for 10 years? He had a new awesome looking mace and the ability so swap into frost pressence.
I dunno it felt really awful and illogical too me.

The Maw
There is no covenant in this area. It’s a horrific prison for the most vile souls and the domain of the Jailer. There’s one rule: No one has ever escaped from the Maw.
However, right now death itself is broken. Souls are pouring into the Maw and causing it to swell and grow. The other realms of the Shadowlands are stripped of Anima.
What if Sylvanas’ actions were actually intended to cause the maximum amount of death possible? The jailer is not Sylvanas’ master, but who is this mysterious Jailer? They are partners with a common end.

Well, no, they’ve been setting up the idea of Sylvanas working with a higher power connected with death for two expansions now, so it doesn’t fit for Deus ex machina.
Nor is she a ‘Mary Sue’, for people who use these terms without having the first clue about storytelling.
