This is the first time playing with Blizzards UI since around 2009. After a few minutes of playing….ugh….I must add my voice on this matter, even tho its extremly late.
Why on earth couldn’t you let us use the UI we wanted? I understand if you wanted to move away from COMBAT RELATED addons, but those addons that only adjusted the UI? Bad move.
Feels like Im jumping from my new car into Fred Flintstones. Clunky and bad looking and it feels narrow when trying work with these basic UI tools. Moving away from different UI’s that many of us has been using over DECADES this late into WoWs timeline make no sense.
Why now? All these years we have been using amazing created UIs from amazing developers and suddenly “no more, sorry folks”. If you want us to use your own UI, then atleast give a damn when you are creating / improving it.
For a company with Blizzard’s capacity this is embarrassing.

Because as much as they wanted you to have the freedom to do as you wish, they also wanted to level the playing field a bit and make it so newer players didn’t have to download a billion different addons to get to the position that experienced players had been in.

Newbies will decide for themselves how they are comfortable. Especially since there are not so many newbies in wow. And we were left without a choice. I don't like the standard interface. I haven't played on it for 10 years. Why am I being made to suffer?????!!!!!

Ooooh noooo
Seriously? You’ll get used to it. Or you’ll quit but we both know you won’t quit.

There will be people who will quit, but deep down it’s just the straw that broke the camel’s back; anyone who quits is due to a lot of reasons piling up and not solely because of the UI.

Fortunately, it seems a lot (most) of UI customization addons still work. Wowhead has long lists. It is mostly only WeakAura that is gone for good.
The straw that is putting the most pressure on me is, why on earth, can we never adjust nameplates height. I dont want loooooong nameplates. I want short fat ones that have just the info I need.
The rest of the pile is convivences I had with Elvui in one place and now they all gone.
I can’t fathom a developer who does not do homework. Was it so much effort to research and see which addons were the most popular and try to emulate those ? No probably not because that means that could not leave the office by 3pm.
Don’t get me started on the shi!te show of transmog changes. 2k a pop to get back what I paid for over and over again. This is the one that will hurt players the most.

Yes, because taking away options is always the best course of action. It will never cease to amaze me how some people will just pick up the most anti-consumer take they can, spout it without even questioning it for a millisecond and then smugly feel very smart because they defended billion dollar company from those stupid internet trolls.
People like to have options. Especially in cases where the OEM choice is inferior to what can be supplied by a 3rd party. And now we have fewer of those, thanks to the smug “well, I don’t want a custom UI, so you shouldn’t be allowed to have one either” crowd. Thanks a bunch.

I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of healers suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly vanished.

The basic UI is an abomination. I’ll log back on when my addons have updates to fix this horror.

Not using your garbage UI Blizzard.
You said that we would be able to use UI modifying add ons.
You lied.
Goodbye and good riddance.

You don’t need ui addons to play the game as a new player and they give no real advantage other then convenience of configuring your UI so while you have a good arguement for combat addons sure it doesn’t even apply to the UI addons. We’re not asking for weakaura here, if anything I want that gone too without it being replaced by some ingame alternative.
By the way, its not the combat addons existing that force new players to adopt them, its blizzards choice to develop the game around them. I’m pro removing combat addons, but not at the cost of UI addons and at paired with an immediate change in how they develop the game.
Its always blizzards choice to adopt a certain development style, even choosing to design around the player behaviours is a choice that came from blizzard.
If people are going to be complaining 2-3 months in that addons have to come back, I’m going to see that as blizzard failing to uphold their side of the bargain with this disabling of addons: that they stop developing the game around them.
If you ask me, they already did barely next to nothing to ensure a smooth transition and that is absolutely on them.

Dumb post is dumb.
You’re seriously underestimate how much addons mattered to some people. I can’t stand the UI losing my custom UI sucked. You can’t just tear down something people have used for over a decade and expect people to be cool with that. “A company of fools” has never been more accurate.

I’m almost willing to bet that it wasn’t their decision to make, which is why it’s happening so soon. Normally I’d expect them to set a roadmap, where they would want to reach a workable state for a more limited API by the end of Midnight. You’d assign resources to the UI design team and let them work continuously on a UI that at the very least lets you customise it at a basic level. At the same time you tell 3rd party developers what they can expect to change with Last Titan. That lets everyone figure out what is actually feasible and what is not.
What has happened instead, however, was that they dropped the bomb last minute, and then started to backpedal on it once management noticed how unpopular the decision was. This is not a decision people make that actually know the product. This is a decision made by people who care about other things than the core playerbase. They want that XBox crowd, so the game now has to appeal to console players, PC players be damned.
Enter: the company apologists who swallowed the copium that was handed to them on the silver platter of a blue posts. It is looks like dog-poo and if it smells like dog-poo then it probably is dog-poo. No matter how much glacing and how many sprinkles you put on top of it.

Just passing by to say ‘thank you’ to the ElvUi devs.
I briefly tested the midnight version and I am very happy that I can continue to use most of my ui which I used since cata.

Very possible yeah, kind of feels like they went lets just close the tap completely and see what happens, but at the same time I can’t help but look at the past of blizzard introduces a new feature that works and isn’t generating error popups, backlash is given, blizzard declares a feature to be a bug actually whoops that wasn’t our intention at all ha ha ha
to be reduced to an old man yelling at the sky once more
The good old X (now Z) perl got “incompatible” status in game when working throught the addonlist. Any alternative to that?
