I wanna start by saying that Outlaw Rogue in Legion is the most fun I’ve had with the class that I can remember and I don’t understand the reason why Blade Flurry was changed for BfA. Old Blade Flurry was an amazing spell, especially together with Shivarran Symmetry. I loved trying to dash out as much dps I could during that 3 second window and also trying to get as many Mark of Death resets as I could and mete out Dispatch after Dispatch (which also happened to cleaved for a ton).
Currently in BfA I feel like I regen too much energy and that I can barely get rid of it. So us getting another ability that gives me even more energy regen (i.e. Blade Rush) is not what Outlaw needed. And when I have to sacrifice a bunch of GCD’s to activate Blade Rush which then makes me cap on energy feels really clunky and nonoptimal gameplay (a good player is not supposed to waste any resources). That old Blade Flurry lowered energy regen was partly a way to make haste feel more valuable if you happened to have alot of it. As of this moment Brigand Blitz artifact power is really strong partly due to the high frequency of Adrenaline Rush casts(~40s interval). And when you constantly struggle to keep energy below 100% then Pistol Shot usage get prioritized away from rotation, which also happens when you roll a 6 but that’s ok cause it doesn’t happen very often.
So when you have two stats that give you energy regen (i.e haste and mastery), a ton of “energy-giving” talents aswell as strong passives like Brigand Blitz then it make it really painful to have to click Blade Rush, and also boring that Pistol Shot suddenly doesn’t exist in your rotation anymore.
So basically TLDR it feels too easy to get more energy that you can spend and Blade Flurry is a boring ability now.
Maybe the problem is that Adrenaline Rush is used too frequently. I sometimes reach 50 energy/s and I don’t even use Vigor, SnD or Blade Rush. Maybe if base energy cap was higher or Adrenaline Rush raised it even higher than it currently does then it would be less of an issue.
I would be a really happy Outlaw Rogue if old Blade Flurry made a comback together with Shyvarran Symmetry as either a talent or as a Shadowlands legendary.
When we have gotten zero news about Rogue for Shadowlands other than one covenant ability being removed, especially when Outlaw already is in such a sad state I don’t feel very hopeful about the future. It’s been nothing more than a downwards slope ever since I initially fell in love with Outlaw Rogue back in Legion.
