Old Content Rant

They are relevant for leveling, mog running, achievements and mount farming.

I still do Old content for the Transmog and stuff. Plus I’m pretty sure a lot of people do the Dungeon/raid in Netherstorm mostly to get the Kael Thas Mount and other stuff.

Time walking… It’s great.

Really?
On wowhead only states that there are 5 weeks of TW back to back from tomorrow.

Not that they are permanent.

It is irrelevant only if you got all the cosmetic rewards of the old expansions.

Atm i am playing current content only only for the Crab Mount and the mounts from vision/invasions.

The rest of the time I am farming Argent Tournament, Netherwing rep and other older mounts and reps (that give mounts).

If you are not interested In those things is not Blizzard fault, there are ton of interesting things in older content. Up to you to care about it.

I really wish that blizzard would take a look at allowing some older dungeons to be scaled up in a M+ kind of way. You could tie this together with timewalking if you wanted. Speaking to the npc of the current timewalking event gives you a random key to a dungeon of that expansion. Would need some work and might be really unbalanced but it could also be plenty of fun. Especially when we are getting Legion timewalking next expansion and those are already tuned for M+.

Really agree with this point. It would be really cool if there would be more of a point to go back to a raid. Maybe adding hard mode versions of certain bosses that also upgrade their loot to the current raid tier?

I like that the eternal palace still has some relevance but it’s annoying being one of the few classes that needs the loot from Azshara to find a group.

id love old raids/zones to be more relevant for mats though for proffesions where not evry new recipe is just new ores/mats.
Maybe not for gear with actual stats but for other proffesion items they could and imo should use the old mats/zones

As a Vulpera, I can’t complete the Argent Tournament, as Zul’tore won’t give me quests.

Elder Scrolls Online fixed this problem by having the ENTIRE CONTENT OF THE GAME scale with character’s level - quests, dungeons, even PvP is all scaled to level.

The only disadvantage a low level player has is that his skills are not leveled up and he has fewer abilities, but there are literally no problems there with lvl 5 tanking an dungeon with max level characters.
Sure, you can’t solo old dungeon & raid equivalents, but with a good build you can solo all overworld content including most world bosses (some are REALLY damn tough tho and will rip you a new one if you try - especially Summerset ones).

But this system only works when you THROW AWAY THE ITEM LEVEL CR4P.
ESO had the same gear strength since it’s launch and new content only adds new sets to mix&match and experiment with. And trying hard every patch to balance sets currently in game so that none are too useless or too ‘meta’. It works nicely though, most of the time you can go with something that compliments your class fantasy and/or build, rather than ‘that one BiS set’. You can also upgrade the gear yourself (white->green->blue->purple->yellow) instead of hunting for ever higher ilvl endlessly.

Just because you do not get gear proportionate to your iLvL or such in these old raids does not make them completely useless, IMO. I adore running the old raids and can’t wait to re-level my paladin for them. Heck for so many collectors raids like ICC will be prime because of the legacy mounts. You can get tons of pets and amazing appearances. Don’t give up on them just yet!

I think a more managable & realstic idea would be to make sure that current instances are still relevant. I knwo we have M+ but heroic instances are usless pretty much after the first patch. To me that is a huge waste.

What do you mean? Old content is full of reasons to do it, pets, mounts, transmogs, achievements. I don’t ever want a situation where all raids in the game are current and necessary to do to get good gear lol, that would burn me out in 2 days.
