To Observe the Dragon Isles

Next week, the Observers of the Starfallen are called together for a mission: to blend in with the Dragonscale Expedition and find out what discoveries they have made that could be used by them in the future.

Yet in the meantime, up in the frozen north…

The frigid winds howled along the western cliffs of Icecrown. High atop them in the distance, they could see the immense structure that was built there long before humans even existed. Jotunheim, the vrykul called it, and it was a citadel that dwarfed even their own majestic cathedral upon the isle.

Three crusaders sat together huddled by a campfire on the northern coast. Two of them were young and had only arrived a few months ago. They had heard that even now, there was still a remnant of the Crusade fighting in the north against the Scourge that ravaged their homeland. Curiosity led them to the most inhospitable place in the world, but it were the words of one man that made them stay.

“Lord Truehart is gone again, isn’t he?” One of the new bloods spoke up. He struggled to control his shivers as another gust of cold air cut through the cracks of his damaged armour. His green eyes sought the veteran’s who kept her own focused on their campfire. If she was as cold as he was, she didn’t show it.

“Indeed. Word has it that one of the relics of the Light he’s been hunting was found in Dragonblight of all places.”

“Dragonblight?” The second of the new arrivals repeated as she pulled her cloak tightly around her to ward off the winds. “Maybe the dragons left it behind since a fair few of them so suddenly left?”

“Maybe so,” the veteran replied with a loose shrug. “All I know is that we are one step closer to wiping the Scourge off this map. We may finally build a new haven for our people, away from those who’d brand us the heretics.”

A wistful sigh escaped from the lips of the other two.

“A new home for us…”

——

Heavy, armoured steps echoed throughout the cavern as he walked down the corridor, streams of lava illuminating his path ahead. The trip felt longer than it was, the anticipation of laying his eyes upon the relic had not made time go by faster.

So very close now…

It was close now, he could feel it as each step became heavier. His own thoughts were struggling to stay coherent, it almost felt like he was wading knee-deep through an endless swamp in both body and soul.

All you have worked for will soon come to fruition.

Yes, his plans. A new kingdom built upon the corpses of those who stood against the Onslaught. He could see it before his eyes, the voice of the Light had helped him see. It vanished as soon as he spotted one of his agents.

“My lord,” the crimson-clad rogue uttered as he bowed his head. He kept his voice low as if someone was listening to them.

“Is it here?”

“Yes, my lord.”

Take it, it is yours to wield now.

Introducing…

“To the Dragon Isles!” - A Starfallen Campaign starting May 22nd!

An RP-PvE campaign open to outsiders who wish to venture to the Dragon Isles (and below).

What is this?

A campaign lasting several weeks where the Starfallen, under the guise of adventurers, explore the new lands and, more importantly, the recent discovery of a vast underground area beneath it. Expect drama, action, and a few Void shenanigans as we travel to depths we shouldn’t.

An IC hook will be provided once 10.1 hits live!

Will your character emerge unscathed from Zaralek Cavern or will their eyes be opened to a dark future that awaits Azeroth?

Any requirements?

Ideally, a level 70 character. There are no faction requirements, so feel free to join in as either Alliance or Horde!

Interested?

Let me know via Discord (foxesz#4412) or in-game! As I am only one DM, there will be limited spots available.

More power to you all! Playing an antagonist is a real challenge, but it’s also rewarding for everybody involved. I’m away from the game on holiday right now, but I do hope to have some encounters with you fellows sometime soon.

It really is! I think with our approach to the concept, though, we will be able to add a whole different layer to it. Our characters aren’t actively seeking to undermine other guilds, we will work with them, but there is that risk that should our ‘allies’ have something we desperately need… well, you know! Ours now.

And by all means, seek us out! RP with us. Maybe join ussss.

ADVENTURERS SOUGHT FOR EXPEDITION TO THE DRAGON ISLES!

A new, underground network of caverns has been discovered below the Dragon Isles which are rumoured to hold a great many forgotten secrets. It is up to the brave people of Azeroth to discover and catalogue what artefacts can be found there.

Adventurers, be they members of the Horde or Alliance, are requested to join an expedition to this newly discovered area. Do you lust for adventure, wealth, or the opportunity to unravel ancient mysteries? Look no further!

The expedition is funded by Vasaar Duskfield, a wealthy researcher who has made it his mission to retrieve and destroy dangerous relics pertaining to the Void. If you believe yourself a good addition, contact him by mail. The estimated duration of the expedition may vary but expect to be gone for a month, starting from the 22nd of this month.

Expedition Meetup - 19th of May, 8 PM (Server Time)

Those selected for the expedition will gather in Dalaran where Vasaar Duskfield himself will brief them on their assignment and what they can expect from the (limited) information known.

CONTACT ME!

If you are interested in attending the campaign, feel free to reach out to me on Discord (foxesz#4412). There are currently no more slots open!

Our adventure on the Dragon Isles soon reaches its conclusion, only a final confrontation awaits in the depths of Zaralek Cavern against the Primalists. Expect a full write-up once the campaign has concluded!

After a grueling five weeks, the expedition concluded on the 26th of June. It was riddled with issues from the start as the participating adventurers’ ideologies clashed on more than one occasion. Some had departed yet those who remained put aside their differences in the end when their journey presented an obstacle in the form of Estheral, a Disciple of Fyrakk.

They met allies such as the black dragon Anyraxia who was taken by the Primalists in an attempt to transform her into a monstrosity of shadowflame.

What was meant to be an expedition for dangerous Void artefacts became one where they had to stop the Primalists from succeeding with their sinister plans in the Zaralek Caverns.

It all concluded with a battle in Aberrus itself where a shadowflame-infused Anyraxia wounded the Disciple of Fyrakk, allowing the adventurers to slay the wicked creature and put a stop to its nefarious plans.

[EPILOGUE] Anyraxia

They battled the wounded Disciple of Fyrakk in the heart of Aberrus’ central chamber - the Molten Crucible. She had done all she could as the wounds began to drag her down to the ground as well. It wasn’t just her wounds either but the maddening whispers as the shadowflame began to consume her very being.

Death was coming for her and she wanted to die alone.

Anyraxia flew towards the eastern wing, where they entered the complex. She flew as far as she could until the pain made her go no further. With a loud crash, the dragon made her final stop amidst the debris of Aberrus’ walls. It wasn’t meant to be a silent death for her as the chorus of voices screamed and laughed at her misery.

A failure to the adventurers.

A failure to her flight.

A failure to the world she was meant to protect.

They laughed and jeered. Failure, failure, failure.

It wasn’t long now as lids became too heavy and thus darkness encroached. In her final, maddening moments, she saw a figure clad in white approach her. Perhaps the one to ferry her to the Shadowlands? The figure held out their hand towards her and her eyes closed for a final time.

Then the voices went quiet and even the pain subsided. Was this it? Was this how death felt when one crossed the threshold?

“The world is not quite done with you yet, Anyraxia of the Black Dragonflight. Please allow me to save you.”

And she did.

[EPILOGUE] Edge of Oblivion

After Vysea departed only he remained in the halls of Aberrus. The battle had been won and now everyone saw to their wounds. It provided him a brief opportunity to visit the one site he was most curious about. In the deepest chambers below he could feel how frail the fabric of reality was. Would it be enough?

He carefully floated down the Molten Crucible to the door carved in the southern wall where a shortcut was to Neltharion’s Sanctum; a large room where the former Earth-Warder likely oversaw his many projects in Aberrus. It was, however, the unmistakable presence of the Void in the smaller chamber in the back that drew him forward.

There was a large, circular pool of Void energies that revealed a glimpse of another space below. Without fear he stepped within, letting the Void carry him down to the Edge of Oblivion.

His feet touched the edge of another pool, the Void clinging to his form and challenging the illusion he’d so carefully placed on himself. With not a living soul around, he threw away all pretenses and dropped the guise. The plain white robes shifted into something more regal, the elven features and flesh gave way to the bandages and Void energies that held the ethereal together.

Sarvaad turned around, gaze fixated on the focus crystal used to move around the Aberrus complex. A subtle bit of magic was weaved into it, creating an anchor to which he was now attuned to. Only when he was done did he move deeper and study the chambers – or what was left of them. Walls had crumbled, the debris suspended by the grace of the Void which permeated this realm.

Then he reached the final chamber that held a platform suspended in the air. From there he could gaze into the Great Dark through a large gaping hole in the wall. The ethereal’s gaze, however, soon drew to the shattered crystal floor upon which he walked. Just below the surface, the Void coursed through the reflection like it was a river’s current…

And that current carried two purple stars that gazed right back at him.

[Guild] The First Seed

“This can’t be right. They were defeated years ago. They shouldn’t just…”

The elderly scholar pulled away from his telescope and consulted the maps he’d drawn of the night sky. There were the old ones from before the Legion’s defeat but also the recent ones from the peaceful three years they had. Perhaps one of the stars he’d been so careful to track had simply dimmed a little more than usual. An occurrence that was not too uncommon, he concluded.

Once more he peered through the telescope, turning the knob so that the image was as sharp as he could manage. The tapestry of distant lights was as beautiful as ever, yet he found no time to admire them. No, he sought one particular star among the many. One that had gone missing only recently. One that he thought was just not as bright as it used to be. Yet as hard as he searched, he could not find it. Where it should be was only darkness with not a single trace of light left.

“If it wasn’t the Legion who was behind their disappearance,” the scholar muttered under his breath.

Then perhaps there is something else out there.

The man looked around, his eyes darting frantically around his study. For a moment he swore there was someone else, a figure in the corner of his sight yet he found himself alone with his thoughts. A trembling hand sought to grab the nearest chair so he could seat himself and ponder on the possible causes of the disappearing stars. If not the Legion, what other force could be so strong as to make stars disappear? The Titans?

Or perhaps the answer lay in the shadows.

Yes, that was a possibility as well but it was one beyond his ability. Perhaps there were others like him whose eyes were also fixated on the stars. Scholars from all over Azeroth? They could have seen the same things he had – and found an answer to this burning mystery on his mind. Yes, perhaps he should write to them.

The Starless Order – A Way into their Hearts

A call has gone out to scholars and other like-minded folk who have a particular interest in the stars above. There is a mystery that needs to be solved for the implications of it could be severe.

What causes the stars to vanish from the night sky? Could the same happen much closer to home in due time?

Will you help out the newly found Order dedicated to the Starless Pursuit or will you merely listen to their words?

For more context, the so-called “Starless Order” (or the very long-winded “Order dedicated to the Starless Pursuit”) is a more public front from which some of the Starfallen will operate.

Its purpose is to spread awareness of a great mystery out in the Great Dark Beyond and plant seeds of doubt and fear into the hearts and minds of people. As for those who might delve too deeply into this mystery… a whole other truth may be revealed instead!
