Hi all, sorry for a potentially old and gone topic but I was wondering the following:
So titans, can freely travel the cosmos, they are planet sized being and just float in outer space or whatnot.
Sargeras, pre fel corruption, was doing exactly that and as we know, destroyed one entire world with his sword.
After his fall into despair, and subsequent murder of the rest of the titans he started looking for Azeroth. He found it because of over indulging Night Elves. So the question is:
Why didn’t Sargeras just, you know, space float there, cleave Azeroth in half and get on with it? Why all the drama with needing to be summoned, sending his minions and generals bit by bit, corrupting the locals making all this song and dance about it? Not once, not twice but 3 times, only for him to get there at the veeeerry end and bit defeated.
What’s the ingame lore answer to this? Is it just too far to manually get there? Don’t know what kind of flight speed Titans have in outer space. I’ve reread the Chronicles, looked up Nobbel and Bellular videos, what am I missing?
Is he just being a typical lazy raider who just wants to get summoned because he’s never bothered to get there himself?
The most likely answer so far for more or less any story choice would be either about “this is the story the devs wanted to tell”, or “they thought it would be cool”.
What else is there to say?
Because it’s not really clear what is the goal of Sargeras. According to the 7.2 trailer, from the perspective of Kil’jaeden, plan of Sargeras was a failure. Yet Sargeras still considered that things go as needed. Which raises the problem that the goals as portrayed by other members of the Legion might not really reflect what Sargeras himself tried to accomplish.
I do not know enough to tell about the thing, but after the first attempt that led to the Sundering his methods changed quite a lot. It became more about manipulation, infiltration, etc. Why? Who knows.
Warlock class hall has the book [page 38/53], that among other things mentions a vision that Sargeras had after the Sundering. The vision, where he was dragged down. Which opens another can of worms since in the Warbringers: Azshara we can see who was sitting below the place at that time. Which opens up a lot of possibilities.
A problem is Aman’Thul. Nozdormu got his power from him and could see through time, even his own demise. It’s safe to assume that Aman’Thul at least equally strong in that aspect, if not more. Which means that whatever Sargeras was doing had to take into account dealing with an entity who knows quite a lot. Way weaker Chromie says, when you approach the character:
Character name, good to see you!
Or is this the first time we’ve met?
I’m in so many places and times right now, I sometimes have a hard time keeping track of all of it.
That is also a possibility. Unfortunately it was not taken into account in the Ardenweald theater event.
Yeah it is difficult to keep up with Sargeras’ intentions since a lot of new lore comes and gets retrofitted on top. I guess whatever is the latest is the “correct” one.
Once upon a time (Warcraft III era lore) The Burning Legion was just this unconditional evil that thrived in consuming worlds. It did indeed seem that the only way to travel across worlds back then was to be summoned. Later on we learned about Sargeras being a fallen titan on a mission etc etc, only to learn further that the Nathrezim are probably agents of death who manipulated him into his fall.
Now in terms of story and the technology and rules of the universe:
Fast forward to The Burning Crusade era lore, and all of a sudden there’s much more technology available (Draenei spaceships, all sorts magic or fel powered devices etc). The Burning Legion still seems to be primarily bound by portals and extensive rituals.
In Legion, the Burning Legion has literal teleporting space ships. The Sargerite keystone can literally teleport an entire planet through the cosmos by ripping fabrics in reality.
Do you see my confusion?
Oh that is a huge can of worms that I try to stere clear from! Time related powers, multiverse, I know blizz explains the basics of it in the first Chronicle (I think) but I just rather not touch too much upon it. Either Aman’Thul wasn’t very good at seeing Sargeras’ destiny, or he just didn’t really care that all that drama happened because he knew that he’ll inevitably defeated in that 1 scenario (think Dr Strange in Infinity wars/Endgame)
I’m sorry to say, but your problem is that you are looking for reasons where there are none. You have a relative complicated world, developed not by one professional writer but by dozens of game developers, executives and writers with vastly different visions. And then… you add 16 years of continual development and changes in leadership.
So yeah, your default assumption if you find something that doesn’t seem to make sense should be that it just doesn’t make sense. There are a lot more cans of worms in WoW than there is meat, by now. Your best hope for something that hasn’t expired, yet, is the ongoing main storyline of the addon and the things that set it uo.
Cynical, but ultimately it comes down to this and you’re right. I was simply hoping I actually missed a detail somewhere that explained this and didn’t have to resort to irl reasons.
