Old raids, level scaling and leveling chars

So since the prepatch looks to be incredibly boring to me I thought about running old, TBC, Kara with level 70 chars on Halloween… Except of course level 70 won’t exist in a week.

So how will these old raids work come prepatch? Will they all be scaled to level 50 or something?

Raids will top out at their non-chromie-time max level, just like it is now.
So you can still farm mythic nighthold solo for example but some mechanics will hit harder.

Old raids should be solo-able for max level characters. How this is done with lvl 50, i wouldnt know, I guess not yet because its’’ current’’ content untill lvl 50

It will work exactly the same as it does now. Everything will be squished down

Chromie time is only for levelling from 10-50.

This is the thing that was worrying me also, I love mogs and have a few sets I still miss, I really hope they get this right

Not on pre patch afaik, once u hit 60, then yes.

Even then will you struggle.

I can easily solo Mythic Nighthold up to Gul’dan.

I tried running it on my lvl 60 Hunter with 197 ilvl, and i couldn’t even kill the first boss.

The Raid bosses are extremely overtuned.

With ilvl 197 do you have about 28k - 29k HP.
Where Mythic Skorpyron hits for about 156 - 250 a hit.
And it has Waaaay to much HP for the new stat squish.

So in today’s state in the beta, no you can’t solo Mythic Nighthold due to Overtuned Bosses, both HP & Damage.

Thats a shame, kinda hoped it will be bad only during pre patch.

Well they will most likely 1 Tap you in the Pre-patch if you try soloing them.

So if you can solo Nighthold, now is the best time to do so!.

Which is sad, as Ion said that if we could solo a kind of Legacy Raid then would we be able to do it in the Pre-patch aswell.

This is why Stat squishes are so bad, it’s chances of messing things up is extremely high.

They take 1 Step forward and 2 step backwards with Stat-Squishes.

I warned about the level nerfs, and yet no one were listening. Perhaps people are looking forward to grouping up for farming post-Cata content.

Content will be scaled similar to how it is now just with different level ranges.

Chromie Time is an alternative way to level up. You can still jump through the expansions as you do now, but with the level squish I doubt you’ll get more than one zone per expansion, minus Classic/old world.

With Chrome Time you can go from 10-50 in any expansion you choose. The dungeon finder will be limited to that expansion and you will slowly unlock more to the queue as you level up. So if you level in Burning Crusade you will have Hellfire Ramparts really early on, but may have to get to level 30 to unlock Mana Tombs.

Characters in Chromie Time are in a separate phase from others. I would imagine party sync would allow level 50 characters to enter Chrome Time to play with friends but I’m not sure.

IIRC, the scaling for non-Chrome Time is something like:

Old World 10-30, TBC + WotLK 30-35, Cata and Mop 35-40, Draenor and Legion 40-45, BfA 45-50.

I think. Not too sure on that but it gives you an idea of the scaling even if I’m not entirely right. So Molten Core will be scaled to level 30 for example. In theory character power should be very similar to how it is now when doing older content, just like how they buffed our damage and defenses when doing old raids after the stat squishes.

EDIT: Forgot to mention, the moment you hit level 50, Chromie Time will end and you’ll be teleported back to Chromie in Orgrimmar/Stormwind. You can still do the quests you had, but they will be scaled to their appropriate non-Chrome Time level.

At level 60, with starter gear, maybe. On the Beta, last week, I couldn’t get past Skorpyron at level 60.

However, on the PTR representing pre-patch right now I tried at level 50, and both Heroic and Mythic Skorpyron feel about the same as on live. A bit slower, maybe, but everything feels a bit slower on the PTR. I could kill Skorp no prob.

They may still be working on tuning old content.

I will try it on the PTR, I will edit this after seeing how it went.

This is the conversion chart from Wowhead

The level squish will go live during Shadowland’s pre-patch event.

The following chart shows how the current levels will translate into the new levels for Shadowlands.

Current New Current New Current New Current New
1 1 32-34 14 68-71 27 100-101 40
2-4 2 35-36 15 72-75 28 102-103 41
5-7 3 37-38 16 76-79 29 104-105 42
8-9 4 39-40 17 80-81 30 106-107 43
10-11 5 41-42 18 82-83 31 108-109 44
12-13 6 43-44 19 84-85 32 110-111 45
14-15 7 45-47 20 86-87 33 112-113 46
16-17 8 48-49 21 88-89 34 114-115 47
18-19 9 51-53 22 90-91 35 116-117 48
20-22 10 54-56 23 92-93 36 118-119 49
23-25 11 57-59 24 94-95 37 120 50
26-28 12 60-63 25 96-97 38
29-31 13 64-67 26 98-99 39

So each expansion will have been squished down accordingly. Not in Chromie time because that is a system that allows you to level in one expansion from 10-50. You can also level outside of Chromie time.

So!, i have had issues logging in recently on the PTR.
But i just got in and tried it.

and you’re right.
Beta is way overtuned.

I died on a level 60 character with about the same ilvl as Normal Castle Nathria.

But i just tried it on my lvl 50 Warrior which i solo stuff on the easiest in Retail.
Tried Mythic NH against - Skorpyron, and it didn’t even get me to 99%.
Most attacks either dodged or got Absorbed.

So yeah The Beta version of Skorpyron is way to overtuned.

Couldn’t help but to see the new Bonus Roll Icon, looks alot better.
