I am in the market for a new monitor, I have been looking at an Alienware AW3225QF but I am concerned that there will be burn in when playing WoW? Fixed items such as the mini map, bar icons, also addons like details and titan panel could be an issue am I right? Is it best to avoid OLED altogether?
There’s always a risk.
zero risk unless you’re botting in the open world. you will enter 2 loading screens every dungeon or bg or m+ you do, any time you use a portal, any time you swap character, etc.
you can also download an addon like this one to make sure your screen has a break while you’re AFK:
he can turn off his monitor when he bots
advanced techniques
Modern oleds have tricks to prevent burn in, just don’t disable them. Set your windows power profile to switch off the screen when you go afk and you’ll be okay.
I believe that monitor has Pixel Shift that will wiggle pixels left and right a bit every now and then to avoid burn-in.
Of course there’s a chance with OLED displays for it to occur over time - but I haven’t heard complaints from others who use OLED’s for WoW (and keep the OLED burn in tricks enabled)
I have a OLED and I often leave my game running and bugger off for some times hours while the monitor is on and I have experienced 0 issues.
You dont need Alienware anything. You are paying extra for the brand. With said, you shouldnt get any burn.
Which is with basically anything gaming hardware related with one company monetizing more on it than others and it’s not your cup of tea what people pay for their equipment.
!!UNLESS!! they’d asked for low cost solutions.
Anyhow, with OLED it still is a bit of a maybe you do maybe you don’t get burn in. Most of the time with modern displays the probability is pretty low but there is no 100% assurance it will not happen to your specific decive. It’s not even a sole “Brand/Model XYZ” thing, it’s more a “this exact built monitor you have standing on your desk” has it’s own probability.
We can calm you down that you probably will have no issues, but with OLED there still a little residual risk, no matter what model you will get.
So it is up to you: Do you want to have the benefits of an OLED with a bit of risk for burn in, which probably will never happen to you, or get an IPS or whatnot with “less” picture quality but no burn in at all.
Good oleds make static elements less bright these days and have other anti burnin measures, look for those oleds and do not worry to much about it.
Dunno about Alienware but I’ve used an LG OLED panel for a couple of years. No burn ins.
Some friends got OLED as well and they’re on the computer a lot more than me. Still, none of them have got any burn in… Yet.
Could just be lucky.
I used an 48" LG OLED for a couple of years and at the end got burn ins, not from gaming though but because I had the same wallpaper for a long time.
Couldn’t get rid of them using the built in pixel cleaning system. Now I have a new one and wise of my mistakes I now use a black background color instead and have set the screen to turn off after a short time if inactive.
I have Alienware aw3423dwf and basicly what will do if longer gaming session will do turn off monitor and pixel refresh will be done. Sometimes also if I am going afk since I have Elvui it will do animation when you are afk where it rotates your image and player dances on screen so it is kinda good also.Have this monitor for about 1 yr and no problems with it.
Clueless reply, seeing Alienware makes some of best (oled) monitors right now. With the AW3423DW possible being the best qd-oled gaming monitor at this moment.
Agree completly. My last 3 monitors were samsung and AoC.Given this is my first oled monitor but I dont see any need to change it for looong time if it continues like this.Absoulutely beautiful monitor and since is curved imersion is greater.Once you go curved no coming back
OLED burn-in is no longer a significant concern with modern OLED screens. The rare cases where it occurs are usually due to faulty batches of monitors, which can happen with any product. In reality, the chances of experiencing burn-in are near zero. It’s not something you need to worry about, but I still wouldn’t recommend an OLED screen for something like World of Warcraft. For gaming, especially in cases where performance matters more than display quality, OLED can be overkill.
OLED screens are still expensive for what they offer compared to high-end LCD monitors with high refresh rates. You can easily get a 144Hz or 240Hz monitor for a fraction of the cost, which also supports features like HDR-like effects. The primary reason to invest in OLED is to experience true HDR, which, while impressive, doesn’t make a night-and-day difference when compared to HDR-like effects that can be achieved through simple adjustments like raising the gamma.
If you’re gaming or working with fast-moving content, a high-refresh-rate LCD is far more cost-effective and practical than OLED.
I imagine it’s a very small risk given that with most UIs the spell bar refreshes entirely with every cast due to GCD + CDs, but I cannot promise that you won’t see burn in.
I had to return a screen a couple of years ago because I got image retention from lap times when I ever played trackmania, but my new screen doesn’t have this issue.
Spend the 200 dollars extra. See if i care. You rhonk they are the only ones with the tech? Deousional
Even with all measurements its likely there will be some burn in after a while. If its not WoW, its your windows task bar or similar. But it probably wont happen to an awful degree if you take care.
But be aware that OLEDs in general has a shorter lifespan than common VA/IPS LED panels.
Imo its not worth the price as a monitor at this point, but thars personal preference.
