"On-going harassment" or how Blizzard don't care about it. Vol 2

Because Blizzard Support simply doesn’t do “Insert Joe Pesci swearing from Home Alone here” about it, I’m going to leave a thread here and only hope that this thread will be read by as many people as possible before it’ll get moderated by Blizzard.

UPD1: Previous similar thread was removed and I was suspended on the forums for 2 days, reason for which was:

inappropriate: the community thinks it is offensive, abusive, or a violation of our code of conduct.

Somewhat paradoxically, Blizzard also mentioned this:

It’s important for us to provide a civil and friendly environment on the forums, where all players can feel comfortable sharing their thoughts with each other.

And I know, I’ve brought up my stalker’s character names in this post, it’s the only real reason to suspend it. I still find it somewhat both funny and sad, but that’s just me doing a small flail of arms high up in the air. So much for feeling comfortable to share my thoughts. Prev mod in my 2 years ago thread, at least just edited out the names I mentioned. So I’ll remove mentions for now and in case someone wants to know, I’ll find a way or a workaround to mention it safely.

Note: I’ve decided to include some proof to my story by providing screenshots through imgur website. Some screenshots are edited for a reason. I don’t want to bring into focus that I am a GM of a guild, it has nothing to do with that whatsoever. It’s an issue between me and a psycho. So please, respect that.

Story:
There is a person who resides on Argent Dawn, playing both alliance and horde faction. To put it mildly, they are delusional by treating RP & WoW literally as a tinder service, trying to find that “sacred second half that would dom them with care”. It all started with me, unfortunately…

In 2012/13/14, there was a small period of time when 3 people became internet friends, I’ll provide different nicknames for easier understanding: Nil, Mir and Lan. Playing WoW, roleplaying and just chatting, things were going good until Nil and Mir got into a conflict and called it quits, no longer talking to each other. Mir didn’t really want to let it all go after being ignored by Nil, so they created a “fake persona” just to continue having talks with Nil and asked Lan to be silent about it. Lan was stupid enough to give such a promise and when all things blew up and fakeness was revealed, Nil confronted Lan, asking if Lan knew about it all. After a positive reply, Lan was also put on ignore.

I was that Lan person.

In 2017, I was approached by Nil on a different character in WoW. Later on they told me who they are and I saw it as an opportunity to fix my wrong doings. I tried to be supportive, friendly, even caring, just to compensate at least somehow, for my mistake I’ve done many years prior to that. But apparently I’ve outdid myself.

So I had a few months of decent RP, time and talk with this person, going as far as to even live at their place for a little while during my vacation. Problems started right after I left. He really wanted a relationship and I remained completely ignorant to it, because I didn’t care nor want one. We tried to “find common grounds” and there was struggles but with each cringefest this person was pulling out, I grew more and more distant away from them. It’s around that time, same year, where I became a target of their stalking as they really didn’t want to move on and carry on with their life.

Now, I’m telling this course into history, to give context and reasoning of why this person acts the way he is. Jealous. Imagine you have a crush on someone and then you spot them with someone else. You’d feel upset, some will feel jealous. This person goes over unacceptable extents and the way he treats RP, it only makes it worse.

(E.g - in roleplay, actions of my characters do not portray my own thoughts/believes or opinions to a degree. If my character doesn’t like yours, it does not mean that I, as a person, don’t like the other narrator with whom I roleplay. But in this case, my stalker doesn’t see the difference. If my character likes someone, my stalker believes, that I too like that other roleplayer or am attracted to them, it’s just mindboggling)

They also used to write me emails and SMS, but I blocked all his addresses and phone number. I cannot provide any evidence about SMS, because I’ve changed my phones already and old one had stored all “blocked messages”. But I can provide e-mails, last one being dated as 2021.

RP comes and go, my characters live their lives, they meet others, they engage sometimes into relationships (if it makes sense to the story) and that’s where my problem kicks in: Stalker appears.

If I RP with someone or log on an alt, he’ll show up and throw pumpkins on my character, as a reminder that I’m being watched and he knows my alts, despite my API being disabled and I’m invisible on check-pvp website.
Example: https://imgur.com/a/XZOOaLF

Plant toys. Do anything to disrupt RP.
Example: https://imgur.com/a/ZRoaKzQ

If I go into an instanced area, he’ll begin to whisper people he knows I RP with or contact them a day or two later. (Thats just a small fragment, I cba sit and edit each and every screenie I have).
Example: https://imgur.com/a/bbYaRPf

Or go as far as to spam in trade and general chat about me and the other person.
Example: https://imgur.com/a/EEiIg2T

“Hurr durr, you just erp, shame on you!” - some may state. But ironically so, in one of the Blizzard replies in my tickets, a GM actually told me to either “Change locations in a non-predictable pattern or go to an instanced area.”
Here’s proof: https://imgur.com/a/9nKgRJN

Now it can sound ultimately as “Its your problem” but it isn’t. This person has a tendency to whisper people I RP with or RPed with. Either asking them questions that are just cringe or try and attempt to fish out information about me if I’m inactive in-game. This happened to my friends, to randoms that know me, and it just continues.

Another point to bring up is his alt-awareness. He -learns- any alt you may have, even if your API is disabled. He has two accounts so even if you ignore his main one, he can drop a bomb on you from his 2nd one. I roleplayed with someone? Went into Garrison? Other instanced area? Doesn’t matter what we did, my stalker already knows another person’s alts and will message them.

Now the worst part of it is that a friend of mine with whom we RP now and then, has fallen into my stalker’s radar and now he pulls out exact same sh*t on my friend. With exactly what I’ve written above.
I’ve made a lot of tickets to Blizzard throughout this year, with last one being in a queue for an answer for -weeks-. Literally, 1 month has gone by for me to receive multiple answers with a week or two of interval between each answer.

“We’re going to investigate this situation, it’s something we don’t allow and usually it comes to a tempa or perma ban” replied a GM and today my friend informs me how my stalker pulled his cringefest on him, by disrupting RP or leaving creepy messages like “I can stop if you promise a deep connection with me I want to feel.”

Blizzard, you have access to chat logs, you can see literally what anyone does, no matter how long ago it was. Stalker was reported by multiple people, not 1, not 2, it’s like 10 at the very least by now, throughout the years, and yet he just continues to happily play the game while being a completely anxious rtrd to others.

In case I need to make it clear, I don’t care if Blizzard don’t care or won’t do much. Or that “hurr durr you are a filthy erper you deserve this”. No one deserves such a treatment in the end. You spend your money and time to play the game you like, you violate ToS, you get banned/suspended, whatever, it’s a fair deal, no questions asked.

But to play the game and being crippled, by knowing that there’s this -one- person who watches your every move, ready to jump in and ruin your mood or mood of others, is a situation I got used to, which isn’t normal, but it’s normal for me, paradoxically.

I’d bite the bullet but when it spreads onto other people who now have to suffer the same, I just can’t be silent anymore. This post is written in one go, on full hatred and emotions, in case there’s some inconsistencies, grammar mistakes or things that doesn’t make sense and later on edited with screenshots since original thread was deleted by mods that don’t care.

<Here I mentioned my stalker's character names in my previous thread that was deleted, so it's been now removed here in advance. People who have seen me in-game on my other character with my stalker issue, will know his character names because I have them all out in my RP profile because I don't care at this point if I'll get banned or not, least I can do, is spread awareness because clearly, Blizzard just doesn't care, no matter how much they pretend they do. They don't.>

Thanks for coming to my ted talk.

You can put links between ` marks to post them.

i.e. example.com

Also, if i did not say it last time (may have been on Cro), sorry this has happened to you, it sucks.

Ah, you’re right. I’ve forgotten about that. Thank you.

I didn’t see the last thread beyond the title, but good grief this is terrible.

I don’t know if it’ll do much because this individual may not be in any guilds or communities and might just act of their own free will, but it might be worth going into a few community Discords like the Stormwind one or any of the various class/race Discords related to ADRP and seeing if you can get in contact with any of the mods/admins for those servers to get this person blacklisted.

If Blizzard won’t do anything to help then at least maybe people outside the game can by cutting this individual off? Probably not a great solution or too impactful but it might be something at least.

Also just to make sure this stays up - you used a word that will almost definitely get the thread flagged in the paragraph referring to Blizzard’s access to chat logs that I reccomend removing.

Edited. Thanks.
And well, yeah. No matter what sort of evidence is sent in what amount, they just shrug it off. To be honest, I begin to suspect that only a select amount of them have actual access to such tools that helps them investigate the case and instead of delegating it to the one who has, they just promise to investigate and close said ticket, aiming to bump up their “closed tickets” ratio in graph.

Imagine if Customer Support actually supported customers. Or did anything about griefers, trolls, etc that seem to plague AD  sure would be nice…

Sorry you’re having to deal with this.

Yeah, it is absolutely abysmal that this happens to you. My honest and objective suggestion is to either completely change character - new name, new btag perhaps - or submit to public lynching by posting that person’s name (which I do not approve, but it is -a- way, not -the- way).

Sadly, CS won’t do anything in such cases, whatsoever.

Name change doesn’t work. I tried multiple tactics. Delete character, name change and restore. Or create a new one, from scratch, with some odd unusual name, it doesn’t help either. He always finds a way. And I’m too involved to be part of the guild, to swap accounts, it means, I can’t RP with people I used to, he’ll just find out.

Still, thank you all for the answers.

have you tried posting the chatlogs via facebook pm to his mum?

Out of curiosity, a while ago I met someone in Stormwind who had it in her trp that a stalker was following her, human female, guards-like character. Would that be you?

At any rate, I am sorry to hear that you are going through this, and I hope that it will get resolved soon. Shame that Blizzard can’t seem to help you out.

I’d be sure to also jump onto “check-pvp” and search your most common character and then hide all your alts as that website is commonly used to track people and all their known alt characters.

The OP said that they disabled the API for their account and made themselves invisible on check-pvp.

I see, but it’s a constant thing if you do hide alts, because sometimes they become unhidden, even with the API disabled. It’ll sometimes list your alts if someone searches your character and then the alt

All my alts are hidden, I did double check it. I’ve heard stories about a paid method, be it website, software, addon, I don’t know… but it allows you to achieve similar sort of result as with check-pvp, even if your api is disabled. If it’s true or not, idk, but makes one thing, after encountering such hard to explain “How?” moments.

I won’t answer that. Those who know, know. I just wanted to share this situation as a nameless, faceless person without attracting unnecessary attention to anything else that is related to me.

As for the rest, once again, thank you.

That’s alright, I probably shouldn’t have asked. Again, I hope you’ll soon get rid of your stalker and can enjoy the game in peace again.

Thank you.

Well this section really raises alarm bells for me. You haven’t said how much other outside-of-WoW contact you’ve had with him but I’m presuming you’ve ignored/blocked him on everything? Does he know where you live?

Mixing RP relationships with IRL ones can get very messy.

If you are creating brand new characters and he is still finding you, is there any chance he has access to your account or ways of monitoring what you’re playing as? If you’re putting on an addon that you have a stalker, then he will know that it’s you?

If he whispers something to you or your friends, you and they can report that communication and write that this person has been harassing you.

I’m not sure what you can achieve with this forum post really.

Having had a fair share of IRL meet-ups, the opposite also holds true. :woman_shrugging:

This on the other hand is something that had me wondering in the first iteration of the thread as well. If all data sharing has been blocked, characters either deleted, renamed, or otherwise changed, it shouldn’t be trifling matter to find the OP again. It’s odd and (as though it needs saying) creepy.

It wasn’t much. We only met once, where ina duration of one week, I’ve spent at his place, enjoying what another country was able to provide. We had 0 physical contact. I was there to rest, not to pursue anything else. He, on the other hand, expected more than that.

He used to know where I live, but that information is out-dated now, by years.

IC is IC. OOC is OOC. I always keep these two apart, strictly. But in his case, it’s all the same.

Not going to lie, that even made me freak out.
But after double checking login activity, no. It can’t be. I have 2FA, my OS was multiple times re-installed & I’ve taken care of my network security.
To give more insight on that. I once created a character, did a level boost and went into a non-instanced area to DM an event for a guild (another guild, sadly he knows about it too). 15 minutes after I landed in that zone, he showed up. It’s just crazy.

We did. Blizzard just replies “If this person is an issue, use /ignore feature. If he’ll make a workaround against ignore, then let us know.”

I’m not sure myself. Some shouting in the void. Attract attention. Form a mob. I honestly don’t know, I’m just tired to keep it all inside of me.

Depending on where you live, cyberstalking is a criminal offense. I would open a ticket, dump all your documentation into it, and make it very clear that you will pursue legal action if something isn’t done about it from Blizzard’s side of things.

Should they fail to deliver, obviously the next step is to follow through.
