I tried the OBR first on a retribution pally alt and I had a blast using it doing delves. I will continue to use it on that toon as I think personally it feels good. I will not be pushing endgame PVE on it, other than solo content.
However, I then tried it on my frost DK alt and that is where I noted a more situational use of it. I simply replace frost strike key with the one button press. And I only use it when I momentarily loose sight of controlling the battle; and then I spam it until I can retain control and then go back to a manual rotation.
I think this is a good way of using it. I guess going forward, the more I learn the spec the less I will need to use it.
Just thought I would share that. Just because you have it on your bar setup doesn’t mean you have to constantly use it; only when you feel you’ve lost control a bit.
The One Button rotation thing is also good for console players, which I think we’ll see appearing in the future, once Blizzard get the console port completed.
I may give the feature a try sometime today on some classes, which I rarely play, but only leveled them up to have that class at 80.
Using nothing but OBR, an opener castsequence, and my cooldowns macroed together I’m doing more than idk… 50-60% of people the same ilvl than me on some bosses and 90% overall.
That’s 3 damage keybinds, and most of the time I can’t even tell what spell my character is casting with mashing OBR 95% of the time.
If you are trying OBR and can’t get it to do cooldowns well or find it messes up a lot at the start of this combat, this is an extremely simple setup to get good results.
Just started using it and love it. For classes I never play like rogue its handy because i literally AOE spammed him to max lv in one of those XP boost events so have no idea about a rotation with this i can see what they expect me to press and work out why? Whats the synergy there. For my mains its great I know the rotation but im in my 50s now things slow down its easier if i wanna do events quest and chill. Plus im hoping now blizz will put in proper controller support and i can use my xbox controller now that would be fun!
I have a friend with spinal muscular attrophy. He uses an on screen keyboard and a laptop trackpad to play. He also has a program that let’s him turn his voice into macros, which is cool. He can say fus ro da to fus ro da in skyrim.
He’s loving the one button rotation thing. Sure, it’s slower GCD, but he was never able to be as fast as the GCD was anyway, so his DPS has improved.
It’s not for me, I like pressing my buttons. But for people like him? It’s absolutely perfect.
And before people say stupid things like “If you’re that disabled, this game isn’t for you” and yes, people actually say things like that. He can play Elden Ring, with a laptop trackpad, an on screen keyboard and barely having functionality over his hands.
Let’s see you do better than that.
It is a great accessibility feature. I have chronic fatigue and often my concentration isn’t brilliant. I don’t do M+ or Raid etc but it is so useful for just doing NPC dungeons, delves, even open world. I know how to play my class but sometimes my brain just stops working and I can’t remember which button I was going to press… no problem, spam 1.
I can watch the caster bars and swirlies, move without trying to think of how to still do damage, not have to keep track of my holy power. Sometimes just the assistance glow is good enough, I use that in TW dungeons. I feel like I actually have a reaction time now and can properly use my utility skills.
I also feel like I can finally try enhancement shaman and not get overwhelmed and maybe in time I will learn how to play it enough by myself.
I certainly see why nobody wants you to use it in proper group content but for casuals, newbies and disabled it is a fantastic feature.
My only problem with it is that it will be the same as delves, people got gear there and then thought they could do M+, like starting at +8 or +7 knowing nothing. Now with One Button, it will be similar, people will think they can just jump into M+ and get carried since that button does all.
I’m just saying how it’s good for people with disabilities.
I don’t think those people should have an option that screws them out of the rest of the game.
Hey, maybe rotation button makes you super strong… But I’m still playing the game to have fun. Do I have fun pressing it? No. So I guess if you’re playing the game to compete with other players… that’s on you. I’m not competing with others. I’m competing with myself.
Nearly on 34k achievement points… did I get those to brag and lord it over other people? If I did I’m doing really bad, there are people on 50k. No. I got those because I enjoyed getting those. =D
There are addons that do similar things. I had someone in a raid I was in with a guild that I’m no longer a part of, who had an addon that told him what button to press next, and you could even press the addons button. That’s basically the same thing. Except it doesn’t nerf your GCD.
So people already have this, blizzards version is weaker than the addon one.
I heard that from him and thought, that sounds cool… but not for me.
Because it sounds boring.
Equally there are addons that tell you to get out of fire, they’ll even sound alarms and klaxons… But I don’t want that either. First off, I have sensitive ears, they’d be upset if I did that. (They’re already upset with how loud my music is. XD) but secondly… I don’t play a game to cut out parts of the game. I play a game to play the game.
I get addons that add on to the game. Like MRP so I can write a backstory. Narcissus which is basically photo mode for your character. All The Things, because I have no life.
DejaCharacterStats, which shows things like dodge chance, on non tanks. Bartender, so I can have my actionbars how I want them. Recount, so I can see if I’m playing badly or not.
These add on to the game. They don’t take things out of the game. I see the button the same way, it takes the buttons out of the game. Same way I could do more damage if I played Arcane… but I like frost.
If you’re playing for fun. What other people are doing to play “better” doesn’t matter.
And I don’t want to take that away. This feature performs so well, that even with further nerfs It could autopilot players in +7s and Heroic raids.
Like it or not, endgame (Heroic/Mythic raiding or M+) is competitive. It doesn’t matter if you pretend that it’s not. It just is. Your performance matter. And others will decide if they want to play with you, very often, based on your performance.
So now in order to stay competitive (as in, being able to do the same damage as everyone else at a minimum), I have to change my playstyle to this.
I know this might shock you, but I decided in Shadowlands S2 to play without addons. I wanted the pure experience. Only had HealBot, because that is a minimum to have in challenging content, but once DF decided to include that feature, now I am purely addonless.
No DBM, no damage meters, no weak aura, nothing.
If you are playing solo content or group content where your performance (or lack of) doesn’t matter that much, then you are 100% right.
How do I know if I’m dealing with OBR people in M+?
Because I was doing some +7-10s last night for crests (and the blasted priory trinket) on my bDK last night and… stuff took some time to die (and I were in overall 20% higher than the lock).
I kinda like One Button Rotation, especially with alts I dont play much.
With my main havoc DH its not really that great. The problem with havoc DH and OBR is especially global cooldown as we are spamming buttons alot. Also it doesnt do reaver’s glaive properly.
But I think thats good that its still better to play manually if you want to perform best.
I’m not pretending. I am not competing with other players. I am playing the game to have fun and that is what I am doing.
Just because you are competitive, doesn’t mean everyone else is.
I still do good damage, I still don’t stand on fire, unless it’s good fire, which happens sometimes. Thanks blizzard. XD Remember WoD? Everyone stand under the rock in highmaul so it does less damage. STUPID. XD
I am happy, I am playing well. People have insisted I change my playstyle since I started in 2009, and I only change if I enjoy it.
I’ve changed a lot over the years at other peoples demands, and I always wind up burned out or exhausted. (Burned out is especially bad for a frost mage, we melt, very bad.)
If you want to compete with other players. That’s on you. But I don’t. I just want to play and that is what I do.
I mean… I hate to be that guy, but I had to check your profile. You are not doing any endgame content.
Of course, that validates your statement that you are not competing, but the things is, you aren’t competing, because you aren’t playing that part of the game at all.
That’s like you are playing solitaire and me poker and you are telling me that card games are not competitive. You are not in the position to even address my points, you have no relevant experience.
Once you have been told that “sorry man, we like you very much and will play with you on easier content or with alts, but you are not enough for this key/boss and we want to progress.”, then we can have a chat about what people play this game for.
This expansion. I did a ton of endgame content in Cata, Mop, WoD and Legion on my hunter, Raemia-Moonglade.
Edit: Cata was Tamiay-Moonglade. But after that it was consistently Raemia.
I did heroic raiding before they added mythic raiding in MoP.
I was boosting arenas back then too.
I was in a bunch of raiding guilds up until near the end of legion, where I got kicked from mine because the healer said autism doesn’t exist and I just made it up for attention. I called him a err… a few choice words, and the guild took his side.
My point is, I’ve done a ton of end game content. While it was current. Yeah, people can be competitive… But play with friends. Play with people you actually like to play with. Don’t try to join a guild to be the best. That way leads to burnout… or playing with toxic players. Which was my experience.
I don’t join any guild now, getting kicked because I have autism just kinda burned me out… I didn’t really have the drive to anymore. I had a lot of fun with that guild, and it all just ended over the stupidest reason ever.
I’ve been kicked for a lot of stupid reasons from a lot of guilds. Sometimes my fault, sometimes theirs. But that?
Play with friends. That is my advice. Don’t play to be the best. Play to have fun. Don’t compete, don’t be the best. Be your best. That’s how you have fun on this game.
