Think about it for a moment. What do we adventurer’s do? We do quests and complete various miscellaneous tasks for whatever people we happen to run into!
The stewards who do this for living too realize that there is a world out there away from bastion with stuff that needs to be done! It is win win situation! Some of the more courageous stewards choose to leave bastion and fix fix all of the known existence!

Not long ago wrote about this, somewhere… about the allied races of SL
Since the main races can’t be - their job is to stay in the Shaowland, even some of them wandered away or sent on a mission, they are so integral part of the Shadowland they simply can’t leave and while thats okay a mortal joins their covenant, the other way around?
Not really
They are from all over the multiverese
Can’t immagine a Kyrian blue boyscout fighting a Tauren just because he is a Horde… oh, then ferry his soul to Oribos, so the Arbiter could send it to an Afterlife (maybe even Bastion); or a Venthyr neglect her duty just to smack sense in a Dwarf…
Their servitor races however?
The Night Fae have the Sylvar - both male and female models, every anymation you could immagine, based on the draenei female rig
The Venthyr have the Stoneborn - both male and female again, with every anyimation, based on the dranei male and arakkoa models
Bastion - as you said, the Stewards - not that noticable, but they too have a male and female model, seen every animation, emote tho’ can’t put my finger on wat rig they uses
Maldraxxus was a hard one, till noticed the actual, the real “servitors” are the Ossein, those skeletal,. more or less genderless dessicated corpse like looking mobs (so could swing either way) with tons of animation, armor types etc
These races are “servitors” free to go to join and further their masters goals in the land of the living and wont cause an uproar from the living (while a 2m tall vampire who gleefully exlain what will do to you after you land in her realm as a sinner or a Kyrian nodding, good soldier, really selfless… now after i carried your soul, you could let your memories and past go and become one of us… one of us… one of us… The buttflycat fae or Tirnenn? Looking you and smile “hello future mulch”. And a lich or abomination or something really hardcore scourge cosplayer? Would be shoot on sight…)
If Shadowlands turns out to be just a titan made hoax and we somehow restore the Afterlife to its original design and purpose all these guys will be officially unemployed.
The stewards are cool, however I am not interested in playing one. They have great potential for racials though and they could be a very popular PvP choice if they retain the potion and some of their utilities like talent change and stuff.
I feel sorry for the poor things, the way they are treated… Bastion is supposed to be the place of the highest morale and yet I see aspirants lazing about asking where the steward is for some fruit or a drink instead of getting it themselves. Real humble, right? Shoulda gone to Venthyr.
You see Sika overwhelmed with chores and nobody thinks twice about it. You have that chore quest saying “everybody” works together to keep it clean but no, actually, just the stewards.
It’s nice they have a little vacation spot (although unsure why the misled stewards are there as well?) but some of the Kyrian treat them more like second class citizens. So break free, little owls, adventure and explore!
It could be a whole new thing of NEUTRAL races, like Pandaren, that pick to either go Horde or Alliance with Dredgers and Stewards etc.
