The zones. Can anyone deny that? I mean even take Shadowlands, one of the most hated expansions, but you go to Ardenweald or Bastion and it’s breathtaking. BFA was beautiful too, DF, TWW! Everything’s gorgeous and makes me excited for every new expansion.
The Shadowlands zones are pretty, but separating them is the worst idea anyone’s ever had.
And the capital, Oribos, and with the Sepulchre, the ugliest zone in the game (along with the Broken Shore and the DH zone)
so basically
the best thing about wow its art team.
IN EVERY wow that came out till this moment.
everyone agrees that wow zones and the art in this game was so so better than everything else/
BUT
that doesnt mean everyone gets excited for the next expansion as the numbers shows every years
Yeah but that happens with age in pretty much every game. It’s unrealistic for a game to be at its peak popularity constantly. WoW still has impressive numbers for a game that doesn’t appeal to the modern audience.
im not saying it should be at peak. even that Blonde hair elf understands this,
wow has impressive Numbers for such an Old game because of 2 reasons.
1: there is no other game like wow to compete with wow.
yea there are other games but not a real Opponent
2: Half of wow Loyal players are ones that started year year years ago .
like me that started in the Second generation god years ago after vanila
Separating made sense because they’re literally different planes of existence.
OK, but in terms of pure design, we had the impression that the world was super small.
Zones are the only good thing in all expansions since legion.
The music is also in general on a very high note (pun intended). Every expansion has at least 10+ different tracks that you want to listen even outside the game.
That pun was so bad I needed to cast Mass Dispel just to clear the cringe…
Depends, if an expansion has one or two good zones out of 6-8 zones is it considered doing good or just a happy accident?
Because that’s how I feel about BFA most zones range between bland to awful.
One of the fav things i like in wow.Exploring and soaking in the zones.Newest the undermine,Full of lil details.
Gotta say…Off all zones…Cirens isle,kinda ugly,and abonded.Thats the vibe i get from it
Pretty yes but the design of the zones isnt all that great. Way too much clutter, not enough open space and everything has to serve some function. They already have to scale down everything but I feel they go a little far sometimes.
I thought the Legion zones were absolutely dreadful.
Over half of them were a lorelol, they looked pretty ugly overall, and they were very cramped and not fun to navigate.
This applies to all Legion zones, both early and late.
The lorelols were:
Val’sharah: If a world tree was so close and so relatively poorly defended, why did the Legion want to go to Hyjal from Lordaeron?
Highmountain: This giant mountain does not make sense in a chain of islands recently raised from the seafloor.
Suramar: Maiev tells us in Warcraft 3 that Suramar had sunk beneath the waves. This zone is a direct contradiction, which is strange because Maiev spent all her time jailing Illidan next to it… ? Oh wait, no she didn’t! Illidan’s prison was in Ashenvale, but now it’s in Aszuna? What?
Stormheim - a decent, but doesn’t make sense to be part of the Broken Isles.
Argus: We invade the Legion’s homeworld with ONE ship?!
Also, The Ringing Deeps are a disaster imo.
Otherwise I do agree.
Draenor had some amazing zones visually.
Yes, I can deny that.
I hated most of Shadowlands’ zones.
I hate most of TWW’s zones.
I hate all of TBC’s zones.
Beauty/aesthetic is subjective. So you can’t claim a generalization like your title.
The Maw and Maldraxxus were not pleasant or pretty. Oribos was very bare. I think most expansions are hit and miss with zones.
I’m really waiting for Midnight but Hallowfall and Isle of Dorn were pretty too and nice zones to play in.
I dont like SL zones. Since look ugly and dont feel about WoW things.
So, Legion, DF and TWW really pretty. (BFA is ok but feel empty and flat. Only best jungle)
I hoped blizz update oldest zone new graphic same style new zones.
for “Classic”, TBC and wotlk zones
No matter the expansion, I think zone-design and music has always been top-notch. The Maw is another example. It is a barren wasteland which should feel dreadful to be in, and it does. Main problem was that they also put so much mandatory content in there, but if we look at The Maw from a purely artistic point of view, I think it was brilliantly designed.
Same goes for almost all of the zones. Each of them have their own “vibe” and more often than not, with very fitting zone- and ambient music.
