Online Gnome Name Generators

I just had a fun Discord spam session with one of my guild mates, just wildly throwing different WoW Gnome names out there, most of which was rather good, as far as I am concerned, and definitely some every now and then I could see myself actually use.

Anyway, to the headline.

This spam game got me searching on online Gnome name generators, to get an idea about the general quality, well, I only looked up two, the first two hits on Google when searching for “WoW Gnome Name Generator”.

The first hit turned out to be right out horrible at suggesting Gnome names.
While the last names were somewhat passable, following WoW Gnome naming conventions, at least to some degree, occasionally throwing a cog, box, throttle and the like into the mix, they were far from anywhere near good, and the first names it suggested were completely out of whack with WoW Gnome naming conventions, a lot of them couldn’t even be pronounced properly and just seemed to be a totally random mash of letters, just right out useless, horrid suggestions, very consistently without exception.

This is the one I warn about using, if ever finding yourself so unimaginative that you need help with a proper Gnome name, just absolutely horrid suggestions that sounds nothing like WoW Gnome names: https://www.fantasynamegenerators.com/gnome_wow_names.php

The second hit though, to my surprise was actually really good, most if not all the names it came up with sounded pronounced and typically Gnomish, and it seemed to follow the WoW Gnome naming conventions perfectly and consistently.

Not all the names were top quality, but at least they were all passable and some of the suggestions were even really really great.

So, this is the WoW Gnome name generator you need to use, if you just can’t come up with a proper name for your Gnome:

For my Gnome, I literally took one of the names from the US client’s random name generator for the first name, lel.

Aye, I’ve tried it a couple of times and it’s bloody terrible.

Surnames are decent though.

nothing wrong with a gnome named kissu cogbox or a female goblin named cliffmogs…

I just came up with 4 far worse suggestive naughty Gnomish names, but not sure if I should post them, as that is pretty far from the purpose of this thread, but obviously the often used “cog” syllable makes for quite a few possibilities in it self, but that is only contained in 2 out of the 4 I came up with, and by far the worst of them all is not one of those either.

I’m already amazed they lean towards WoW gnomes rather then the regular gnomes such as david the gnome, but those first names…

I tried the fantasy name generator and found it to be lore appropriate and proper.

Sounds like you guys need to realign your expectations!

Perhaps you got lucky, or perhaps you think you know more about how Blizzard name their WoW Gnomes than you really do, either way the second name generator I linked to is definitely better and of far more consistent relatively high quality.

Or you might think of D&D Gnomes, yeah, those can have some pretty odd tongue twisting names.

Though there are in fact few examples of in game Gnomes with some really strange long winding names with relatively odd letter combinations, but those are a very small minority, and more of an exception than the rule, and even then those couple of names are still far more musically sounding than most of what that first generator comes up with.

Shall we appriciate the beauty of name generators for a moment?
