OP DPS Tier list's

Pre-note: This class list could have minor changes depending feedback etc… (if I am way way off)
This is just what I remember (and researched a little bit).

Since quite alot of newer ppl keep asking “What is the strongest/best DPS class” and there is no clear reply on this question… I decided too set-up a little list of the top-tier DPS classes and specs for the different xpacks we’ve played so far. You could try and speculate accordingly for the upcoming DF expansion.

OP DPS Class/spec list:

TBC: WL (all 3 specs), BM/Surv Hunter, Arcane Mage
Honorable mention: Fire mage was above avg almost entire xpack.

Wotlk: Fury warrior, Combat rogue, Fire mage.
Honorable mention: Ret pally (at start-middle)

Cata: Surv hunter (extremely OP), Unholy DK, Destro WL.
Note: I did not PvE in Cata, this list is based on research.

MoP: Warlocks (Aff+Destro), Mage (Arcane+Fire), Rogue (All 3 specs spread).
Honorable mention: Feral druid.

WoD: Demon WL, Fury/Arms Warr, Feral druid
Honorable mention: Arcane mage was near top entire xpack.

Legion: DH (Ofcourse), Affli/Destro WL, Assa rogue.
Honorable mention: Spriest early on prety strong. Ench shaman mid-late.

BFA: Fire mage, BM hunter.
Honorable mention: Arms warrior, Destro WL and Shadow priest (very closely behind top 2).

SL: Des/Demon WL, Surv Hunter.
Honorable Mention: Sub rogue/MM hunter early. WW monk middle.
(Obviously late xpack data is yet too come with 9.3)

Conclusion 1: BFA had actually the most ‘balanced’ history. Alot of classes are very near eachother. With the exception bieing Fire mage (5-6k above rest).

Conclusion 2: Best classes to pick, If you a DPS meter lover and don’t care about playstyles…
Ranged: Warlock, Hunter, Mage always have atleast one spec strong/OP.
Melee: Rogue, Warriors are ‘usually’ close behind the ranged DPS.

Note: Obviously the conclusion’s are my personal opinion, you may disagree but that’s why opinions differ .

I will be rerolling away from 12 yrs warrior (#CriesInNostalgia) to a Fire mage in DF (Fire cuz fast pew pew).
Ofcourse to play a completely different playstyle, but also the current dev’s really dislike warrior for some reason.
Will keep my warrior near max gear for alt purposes and maybe easy reroll if I start disliking the caster playstyle.

9.3?

There aint gonna be a 9.3.

My advice to anyone asking what Class to play, is to play the Class that you want to play. Don’t get into the mess of which one is best etc etc, because by the time you’ve levelled up and learnt how to play it, it probably isn’t the best anymore.

You could just roll destru and learn how to press one button.

Well, 2 if you count Infernal and 3 if you count the occasional Immolate casts…

What in the world?

Never played destru in M+?

Pretty much a one button spec.

I have, But I just don’t see how your comment made any sense on the guy’s reaction…
Just like I don’t see how it made any sense in general on this post

It was in response this section

It makes perfect sense.

That’s literally only the last tier. Destruction and Survival almost haven’t even been playable for a long time in shadowlands afaik. Frost mages/affliction warlocks/etc. have been broken at the start.

Huh what, Affliction is littarly irrelevant for the entire xpack…
Frost mage is strong, but by no means broken, Fire mage equals it for example.

It makes sense because you said:

and

So I decided to add to any New Players that are reading this:

Don’t get bogged down with “Which class is best”, that doesn’t matter. Just play what you want to play.

Your reaction was totally valid in my eyes, don’t worry about that .
I just didn’t (and still don’t) understand Atriohm’s reply on you, but it’s okay.

Ah sorry. Wasn’t sure, so thought I should clarify anyway.

But I kinda figured Atriohm’s response was how I said:

He was just making the accusation that Destru Warlock was easy mode WoW. Which I guess would be a fair point, if it were true. But I’m not sure it is.

I mean this sentence kinda invalidates everything you’ve said in this thread

I don’t know what you imply with that but as you can clearly see I mentioned some specs bieing early really OP or not.
Affliction was littarly only ‘strong’ during CN days, which is not even 1/3th of this xpack.
And then again Affliction wasn’t even OP. It was just strong. Unholy DK and Balance Druid were OP back then, yet not included in the list aswell because they’re bad in 9.1 and 9.2 :upside_down_face:

EDIT: And I am talking about the PvE content in general, not only the raids. Affliction in M+ was… not good.

It most definitely is. I doubt there are many that will argue with that, haha
