Now just a brief disclaimer, this topic is merely for the enjoyment of discussion. Its not me asking for help with it or finding an excuse or such. I just find the thought interesting and figured it would be fun to talk about.
The question originates from my IC character here and some of her own goals, she’s far from happy with the unwilling change into Ren’dorei and while she has come to accepts it she hopes for a cure to some day come along even if it seems highly unlikely.
As so I was curious to see if anyone thinks this is possible in an obviously non lethal manner (Looking at you Mythundis )
Although possibly unpleasant or painful to undergo, I reckon it with a bit of a stretch it may be possible to purify. But it largely comes down to the detail of their change, as we know the Ethereals tried to rid the elves of their physical forms, and question stands that if they managed to do so to an extent it might be much harder if not impossible to purify a Void Elf without leaving them missing physical bits, either whole parts or just having their physical form be much weaker, like reduced density in flesh and bone alike. Probably being lethal or at least making life rather miserable.
If it is simply corruption on the other hand I can see a cure be more possible, if rather difficult to perform. But we have seen deeply rooted corruption cleansed before.
Share your thoughts and discuss! Try to keep things friendly, my intention is purely for the enjoyment of a peaceful debate.
Theoretically…maybe? I mean, at it’s core it’s just a ‘permanent’ (non-duration based) magical transformation. And you could be theoretically magically transformed back.
The problem comes in that not all magical transformations (such as undeath) are shown to have a cure. The VElf transformation seems to permeate every part of the person’s being just as undeath does, they’re tied to the void just as the undead are tied to death magic.
Personally I’d err on the side of “no” up until Blizz confirm otherwise.
Feel free to crib some of Sylvanas’ quotes about “what joy is there in this curse?” though!
Random curiosity mainly, if there’s confusion I can clarify again that the whole reason of the topic is raw curiosity and the fun of the debate. It was by no means me OOC’ly seeking an excuse to do so as im quite happy to RP a Void Elf.
Yeah its a good point, the whole bit with it being part of every part of them.
I dont expect it to be curable without it feeling snowflaky but I could come to accept it at a bit of a stretch and if one made a lengthy RP’ed storyline out of it. An hour long brief-ish ritual from one day to the other, not so much.
I think you should avoid trying to purify the ren’dorei.
Jokes aside, I’d assume it would be something that’s near impossible to undo. I think the only characters that would really have any knowledge I think on undoing it would be the void elves themselves, given their extensive studying of the void, but I don’t know how many of them would want to research how to undo it. Definitely an interesting thing to think about though IMO.
Yeah I find it rather interesting to ponder too. And its a good long term character goal for my character, even if its impossible the search itself could lead to lots of fun RP.
I am not sure it would be a cure more than it would be a change in their situation.
But I think the Void could be replaced with Light. Why do I think so?
Well, for one we have seen instances where the Void became Light:
The Dark Star of Draenor that became a Naaru again.
The Void creature in Netherlight Temple that became a Naaru again.
The core of the Ashbringer that started out as something of the Void, yet became Light when they tried using the Light against it.
And we’ve also seen an example of something almost as equally foul as the Void being turned to the Light, namely the Fel, in the form of Lothraxion the Dreadlord.
I mean, apparently we can even create Light-infused undead ( Calia Menethil) so at this point turning Void Elves into Light Elves does not seem that far a stretch.
Whether I think this is good storytelling is another topic.
This crossed my mind aswell yeah. It could very well be possible but its a bit uncertain as there’s likely some key difference between turning something of pure void energy into something of pure light energy. And turning it inside a living organic creature thats only part void, the turning may just kill them as there’s more to the creature than the raw energy.
But it could work yeah, good idea to ponder at least.
Do you think all the Void Elves willingly became transformed by the Ethereal?
Because that is not the case. He tried to cheat them and turn them into void-monsters.
The Ren’dorei tried to study Void, not become Void Elves.
There are also Ren’dorei who were there as guards, or perhaps family members of said scholarly types.
It is valid to play a Void Elf as unwilling casualty.
Basically. Desartin makes good points, but until we’re shown examples of lesser (mortal) creatures undergoing such a transformation, it will remain speculation.
It is noteworthy to bring up Illidan’s potential transformation, too. Deities are deities for a reason, I guess, and seem capable of performing quite the feats (Elune purified a Satyr, and Satyrs, while demonic, are also linked to the Nightmare=Old Gods=Void Lords=Void).
Which is why I mentioned Lothraxion aswell, as he was a living organic creature that changed from Fel to Light.
I should add though in his case, he changed sides after Locus Walker killed him and let him regenerate, and ofcourse the precise circumstances of how he renounced the Fel and got the Light is kept vague by Blizzard. Maybe when he died the Fel left him and he regenerated as a demon without it instead and started to use the Light from after his regeneration, but this is pure speculation on my part.
I personally think the process of changing a Void Elf into a Light Elf would be incredibly painful, long and intensive, and its everybody’s guess if they’d even want to go through that.
Edit: I agree with you Faceslinger, its all speculation up to this point, and I personally would not try it in RP untill I had some more confirmation in the lore!
