This is meant to be a constructive thread.
You may not agree with what is said below, but at least respect the opinion of each person: Some people want Cataclysm Classic, others want to stay on Wrath of the Lich King Classic. None are in the wrong, and invoking solely the reason that it would fragment the Classic Community is just being short-sighted (sorry): no one can force a player to play content they don’t want. If they don’t like it, they will just stop playing. Period. So instead of fragmenting the Community, the Community will shrink. That’s neither good for Blizzard (less income) nor the Community.
Classic players who don’t want to be forced on Cataclysm version have quite a few reasons to back their reluctance:
Complete revamp of Azeroth map: Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King mostly added content. Cataclysm changed a lot of existing content. that doesn’t feel like Classic anymore.
Many class game mechanics are drastically changed (no more mana for Hunters, etc): that doesn’t feel like Classic anymore.
A lot of items that weren’t there for optimization are removed (remember items like the fellhound pet who can follow for 1 hour any character, and not just Warlock?): the loot tables have been streamlined, removing many fun things.
For all these reasons, people wanting to stay in WotLK Era are legitimate.
On the other hand, yes, there are also improvements in Cataclysm:
New content on Azeroth
Gameplay improvements for some classes
Transmog system
Streamlined dungeons/raids (for those who like that).
For all these reasons, people who want to move to Cataclysm are legitimate.
Please, don’t start replying to this thread that your point of view is better/more valid than the other group. It’s not. All players don’t like the same thing. If you catter to only one category of players, you’ll loose the other part. Plain and simple.
I just hope someone from Blizzard can report this to team in the US making the decision for Classic Servers … Having a few WotLK locked servers make as much sense as having Cataclysm servers.
You are correct. There are players who will just stop playing if there’s no wrath era. There are however also players who given the chance would keep playing on wrath era, but when not given the chance, will move on to cataclysm instead.
Those players are meant when people speak about fracturing the community.
It definitely will, but ultimately, more people will play cataclysm if there’s no wotlk era then if there was.
Maybe they could do transmog after woltk permanent era servers, as it adds replayability of game significantly but it’s the next step if they will keep era servers alive (what is ih really hopping so)
I’ve been back at warmane since their announcement. I suggest all other people who want to keep playing wotlk classic do the same - great community lots of activity and, of course, increasing as people exodus from blizzard. Also you can get your subscription refunded if you used paypal.
Let’s be honest… What is the most important thing for Blizzard ?
To keep as many players as possible, or to have less players in just one community ?
Also, let’s not be delusional: as long as you have a server full of people, the “fragment community” argument is invalid, because the community doesn’t care and doesn’t interact across servers for the most part.
I get where you’re coming from.
However, I don’t think it’s a smart move to make an advertisement on public forums for a private server.
Also a big reason for not going to play on a private server: Beside being illegal, Blizzard can make it close at any time (Any memories of Nostalrius?). I don’t know how you value your play time, but I don’t want to invest hundreds of hours on a server that can close at any time. Plus, people tend to start thinking it’s just normality to create private servers. As much as I’m being pissed at Blizzard for not listening enough to the Community (though there were drastic improvements lately), I’m not feeling ok to support what is active robbery of their franchise. Like it or not, No matter how much money we pour into the game, Players don’t own WoW franchise. Blizzard do.
I’m assuming they have long term goals for the warcraft IP that are a bit more important then pure sub revenue driven directly by classic.
That depends. If their plan is to continue introducing additional monetization, then 1000 more players on cata who are likely to go on to MOP are more valueable then 2000 on WOTLK.
They might also be holding back on wotlk to re-release it at some point in the future to shore up gaps in their strategic lineup.
I would say this argument is only one of a variety of reasons they might not want wotlk servers at this time.
Tbh, I was surprised at how the total number of log raiders after ICC dropped did not rise sharply or even past the TOCG peak. And now it’s started dropping because of SoD. Also, some guilds just stopped playing after clearing LKHC and other guilds have collapsed.
It will be interesting to see what effect the ICC buff will have on the raider population.
I’m actually not surprised at all since togc was quick and easy so you could play more alts than in icc where you have to actually play sometimes + theres trash and more bosses so it takes longer and people burn out faster.
I came to these forum to say I don’t like the 5% ICC buff we got today and was hoping for a free transfer to a server with no ICC BUFF. Now that im learning we dont even keep 1 wotlk after the release of cata makes me want to quit today. Please make server without the ICC buff, and keep this server locked on wotlk.
Yes but who is stopping the raidleader for turning it back on again after a wipe and could I resist this temptation myself I wonder. But now I understand their decision to implement the buff ICC, its because time on this expansion is only limited. Would be better imo to let the bosses drop 1 loot item extra to make gearing less tedious. However none if this is seems important now. I was asuming i could play wotlk on blizzard for the years to come, I already leveled 5 classes but oops i was wrong in believing that wich is a bit shockin to me because I do love this expension. I guess I have to wait another 15 years to play it after the release of cata?
I am getting very emotional about the end of Wrath of the Lich King. It is classic online gaming at its best. Everything about this expansion just got it right.
In fact, the whole thing has kind of thrown me off MMOs in general because I may become very emotionally attached to something that a company has control over and can change at the drop of a hat.
I think the fragmenting of the community argument has been copied from the type of people who didn’t want the LFG finder in WotLK. I need to grind over 100 emblems, pal; I don’t want to be monkeying around in chat finding a group when a digital tool can get it done much quicker without the need for all the tiresome, boring chit-chat required.
I believe these kinds of people aren’t as abundant as Blizzard seems to think they are, and they are constantly trying to cater to a smaller group of whiny players who enjoy the social element of these games a little too much, more than the majority who just want to game and not spend hours chatting or kissing the ***es of other players.
I really think Blizzard is totally out of touch with the player base. They are always pushing this unrealistic type of playstyle where we all gather around the fire and sing songs together. Blizzard, please, this is a modern game; we have mobile phones, the internet, and a plethora of technology and responsibilities. I don’t need to have a community sing-along on an MMO; I want to grind bosses and loot, not idle in pointless, delusional socializing chit-chat.
Anyway, like I said, this has really thrown me off online gaming in general. I only want to play WotLK. However, if there was a WotLK-era server, I would most likely play Cata as well on the side. However, if WotLK is retired, I simply cannot play this game anymore.
To make as much money as possible. Whether it’s just a bit from each of millions of players or a crapton all from just one player, it’s all the same to them.
If I can’t migrate my character to a Wrath of the Lich King Classic server, that will be the end of Classic Progression servers for me. I’ll still play Classic Era/SoD.
I agree. I’ve been playing since WOW for 20 years since it first launched. The relaunch of Classic was a dream come true. Breaking the world and original environments in Cata was a heartbreaking disaster.
We need to demand that WOTLK has its own era servers.
I do not want to be forced back into what ultimately became Retail.
Blizzard have asked what Classic fans dislike about Cata… Easy. They broke the world!!!
