Open transmog Cloth to Plate

So am i the only one that feels like it could be cool if they opened up transmog to allow gear to be transmogged into gear of different armor types (cloth, leather ,mail, plate)so people wearing cloth could actually try wearing something else than a dress for once and wise versa

No, I absolutely hate the idea.

There is fantasy and then there is just dumb. I hate when fantasy goes too far out of the bounds of “realism” in respect to the universe it has created.

i would be very happy with some cloth items on my rogue at least

There is no realism in this game and on top of that Cloth, Leather and Mail already have Plate components in their design.

Tbh, instead of making open transmog they should just make more open gear designs with more base models and not have same fluffing Robe model for 15 years.

While i can see it could hindre the “realism” in the fantasy realm its also just really annoying blizz is so lazy with the cloth armor the pieces you can transmog is:
Helm
Shoulder
Wep
Off-Hand
Dress
Gloves

and honestly i dont see the whats wrong with a heavy armored “Battle mage” etc

Exactly my thoughts especially since we already do have transmogs which kinda make Mages into Plate alike.

That is indeed my problem its so annoying having the same robe in 5031 different colors

Yes there is.
People were mad when Sylvanas beat Bolvar because it didn’t seem realistic.
If Anduin suddenly turned into a beacon of light and nuked the Shadowlands it would be unrealistic.
N’Zoths death was unrealistic.

Warriors running around in cloth bootes robes and shoulders is unrealistic to Azeroth.
Rogues crawling through the shadows and stalking prey while clad in 5inch thick steel plating is unrealistic to Azeroth.

When you pick a mage you’re choosing the architect of a ranged glass canon who doesn’t belong in melee situations.
When you choose a Rogue you’re specifically picking an agile light footed character.
A warrior is designed for the front lines.

Why would you pick Warrior over Rogue if a Rogue can steal the same feeling as a Warrior.

This is the “non 5 inch steel plate” Rogue and while i know its not as armored as maybe some of the plate sets it kinda looks alot like plate

And while that is still metal looking it doesn’t come close to the ridiculous juggernaut status of recent Warrior tier sets.

You seriously think a Rogue in either of these makes sense or looks good?

Then i again i can definetly see some kind of class fantasy so its not that i disagree with you. maybe im just a little salty over the cloth transmog situation with the same dress model used since classic

They had no problem designing a new robe style for NPC like Jaina but they are unable for 15 years to design a new robe model for players who pay for the game.
This is just dumb.

On top of that, they don’t even care to redesign old 2004 models and instead of that they just add some 3D pieces which make especially feet look stupid.
It’s like bandaged feet pretending to be a shoe

Except we are talking about how players look like not how characters in the game act so you are missing the point with your little strawman argument.

Right now there is no actual realism in terms of gear because Mage can have more plate armor than Paladin.

here is an example: https://i.ibb.co/MBDhrSv/Magevs-Paladin.png

So allowing e.g. Cloth users to use Plate armor wouldn’t really change much since we already share item type like Robes but also Cloths do have Plate alike Cloth pieces.

EDIT:
FYI, in overall fantasy there are e.g. Mages who are wearing pull Plate
The concept is knows as Mage Knight.

Not convinced to fully open up transmog to a free-for-all.
But I am open to the idea of freeing it up somewheat. Allowing hats, gloves, shoes to be any type wouldn’t break the realism too much. A warrior with plate chest, leather gloves and a cloth hat would not be unrealistic.
More freedom around weapons too. I know you can interchange two hand swords with two handed maces but I’d free it up more if possible. Daggers and fist weapons are quite restricted just now.

I’d still keep all class sets fully restricted to their class.

if you want to wear plate mog play a plate class, same goes for all armour types, its not difficult.

I don’t want cloth wearer to roll on my plate item for tmog in actual content

My mage is more plated than paladin tho

Wouldn’t mind it. Some of my transmog ideas are built on mix/matching different types of armor. Especially cloth with leather.

No, the only QoL I’d like to see would be to have all types of armor automatically saved when looted, even if that class can’t wear them.

But to able to transmog them, just no.

Cloth to plate, eh. I want you to imagine Gandalf in full plate for a moment.

That’s why it shouldn’t be a thing. I will agree with you that they should make cool robes for casters like the one Jaina got in her redesign.

How about Aragorn in a dress?
