Thinking to pick one up, my current is just a normal one thats kinda broken. opinions on them? are they really better for gaming and specifically wow
I can definitely recommend Logitech, I’m using a G15 keyboard and have had it for 13 years now. The G keys are just to the left of my main buttons and can be used to bind more spells.
I am sure there are way better ones now but I’ve always used Logitech for my mouse and keyboard because they are so reliable.
I’d worry more about a gaming mouse than a keyboard tbh
I find no gain in using anything but my basic £10 logitech keyboard. Having used a fancy one in the past, just seems a waste. As for mechanical keyboards, they’re noisy. So if you don’t want to hear every click and/or have household members who will hear it, don’t get one.
If you do this make sure it’s one keypress per action, using pauses in a G15s macros will get you at least a warning, it did for me a few years ago.
what if i just set 1 ability per key, its fine then?
It’s more for tactile feel, you can’t change the GCD so keyboards won’t do much for you.
I like them, so I use one, that’s about it tbh.
I’m succesfully using trust keyboard which was around 8 euro 2 years ago. I don’t have symbols on buttons anymore, but it’s fitting me perfectly and buttons have perfect “deepness” xD
“Gaming” is just to milk more money from customer by adding LED sht, because keyboard won’t give you any advantage, just buy silent one that buttons are comfortable to click and you are g2g.
I currently own a Corsair K70 and it is by far the best keyboard I have ever owned. I can’t imagine playing any game, especially WoW, without one of these.
I will point out that it doesn’t have macro keys.
It should be, but Blizzard can sometimes ban people for using external macros.
btw my keyboard is a Genius KL-0210 that I’ve had for many years. I occasionally take it apart and clean it, including removing the keys and cleaning them.
Wonderful, if you have ÂŁ150 to spare.
Agree. There’s zero advantage to having a gaming keyboard. In fact, I bought a $15 keyboard that just has the keys closer together and I find that to be a bigger advantage than a gaming keyboard. I can reach more with my hand now! Mechanical keyboards are definitely overrated, too. They’re nice for the ASMR, but they offer zero advantage beyond it feeling good to press the keys.
Not a fan of RGB at all as well. I think it somehow encourages gamers to play in badly lit rooms, so you can enjoy the light coming out of your keyboard, mouse, PC, etc. But in reality you should be playing in a room that’s about as well lit as the outside on a sunny noon to make sure the monitor isn’t the primary source of light in your face.
I use the steelseries gamingboards with the low profile keys and i really like that. Though im thinking of getting a new one soon becuse i’ve had this for a while.
Mechanical keyboards are like cancer to my ears. I just can’t stand the sound from it. My whole body is twisting and i just want to scream and rip my ears of xD.
mechanical keyboards are just nicer to type on for extended periods of time
membrane or scissor-switch keyboards make my fingers go numb after like 30 minutes of typing on them, not to mention that the build quality and lifespan of a mechanical keyboard is much better than other keyboards
The ones that light up can be useful if you play in the dark but otherwise it is personal preference as to what feels best for you while typing.
The main differences I feel are noise versus longevity. Mechanical keyboards typically last longer than membrane ones but also make a lot more noise when typing. I prefer mechanicals as they can take more punishment (for I am Heavyhands, Destroyer of Keyboards). But I do have a Microsoft 5000 ergonomic one with membrane switches that is over a decade old and only the tiny left Shift key doesn’t always work.
Game changer for me was gaming mouse with additional 15 additional buttons. At the beggining it was hard to use new keybinds, but ~ after 1 year I already comfartably amd without thinking use 12 additional key binds in wow. Last 3 of them are quite hard to reach and I have to move my hand to click, so these are super rare and situational binds I rarely use.
Even in SC2
Alright, put on your gloves.
Because there’s a pandemic going and my best suggestion is to go and try different keyboards at your local store. Design and features play a certainly important role in gaming keyboards, but my best suggestion is to look for a template with keycaps that enable your fingers to move from key to key as seamlessly as possible. I chose Razer Ornata Chroma for myself, 'cause their wrist support is actually comfortable and durable and the “mecha-membrane” technology (which Razer calls it) is just perfect for me since I also write a lot. These are not too loud and stay comfortable even during extended sessions.
I mean, there’s variation from mechanical to a switchable hybrid. Suit yourself.
I don’t believe there is a certain keyboard that enhances performance in WoW or any other game in general since it’s all about finding the ergonomic position during your gaming time with little-to-no distractions to make it as comfortable as possible. I’m an honest hedonist with a passion for materialistic happiness, but I believe there’s actually skilled players that rely on top-notch ergonomy.
Although, the “top-notch ergonomy” requires an efficient ensemble in general. Whatever. Prioritise design, features, ergonomy and such and you’ll find yours.
Grab a decent mechanical keyboard and you’ll never want to go back to a plebrane based keyboard.
Got the corsair k95 platinum. While the hardware is awesome, the software is meh. I already had iCue installed for my headset and besides of being buggy, it also causes issues with Discord delaying all my sounds (like joining/leaving channels, PTT etc), by 10~30 seconds. Idk if this also happens without the headset and audio drivers, just a heads up.
Get a normal mechanical keyboard. No gaming, LED or fancy crap. The moment it needs drivers to function 100% I call it crap.
Something like the Cherry G80-3000 is the only thing you’ll ever need.
If you get a clicky one, yes. Many mechanical keyboards are not clicky though, and some of them are extremely quiet. My mech for example is quieter than any non-mech I ever owned.
Personally, I’m a big fan of one-handed mechanical keypads (Razer Orbweaver, Azeron, that kind of stuff), because they’re far more comfortable to game on than a regular keyboard. The keys feel better, the shape of it is more appropriate, and so on and so forth.
I have a ducky one 2 with reds and can strongly recommend it, best keyboard I’ve ever owned
