When the release of the new patch today with Dragonriding skills usable in any zone I quickly came to realize that old flying mounts are generally pretty much a thing of the past now, overshadowed by Dragonriding mounts because they have so much faster flying speed. The only exception I can think of is that old flying mounts are better to farm mining and herbalism with, and that they can be used as ground mounts.
Currently for me old flying mounts feel pretty useless after all that time and effort to obtain the rare mounts, and I don’t want them to sit there collecting dust when there are iconic mounts that you would like to use for maximum speed as well. I would with this in mind like to propose that an optional setting is made, allowing us to use old flying mounts with Dragonriding skills, or disable it for old flying mounts completely if some players like that.
After all this proposed optional setting does not hurt gameplay in any way. The Dragonriding mechanics are now available in WoW’s zones and this would merely expand the use of your mount collection, nothing else.
Just my thoughts about this subject. Do you have any ideas on how to improve the proposition? Please share!
Many older mounts are going to be updated for dynamic flight when The War Within launches but not all of them, at least to start with. They confirmed it when they announced the expansion, explaining it requires a lot of work to update the animations for the older models so it will take time to update them all.
All the drakes are at least going to have dynamic flight, and then I’d guess all the gryphons and other bird like mounts. I don’t see see any of the mechanical mounts having dynamic flying unless they come up something more animations for making it look nice. I guess like a engine boost or something.
Some of the mechanical mounts already have cool animations they could incorporate into dynamic flying like when they do a spin and fly forward and swing from side to side.
To answer the OP it could just be as easy as adding a second slot to mount equipment and using that for added dragonriding effects and tricks etc
My only concern is if you will be stuck using only one type of mount (for example you have to spend time toggling your flying to dynamic or normal constantly).
I want to be able to zoom places in dynamic flight then quickly hop on another mount/switch my DF flight mount for farming herbs/avoiding mobs/etc.
