Option to class change

Yes, I am conscious I can just roll a new character and buy a level boost to play a new class, but please understand my reasons:

  • I’m really fond of my character. Having to ‘delete’ it or ignore it is harsh for me.
  • All reputations, achievement and raid/dungeon progress** are lost.
  • It would offer a deeper immersion feeling, like a Mage being corrupted and turning into a Warlock, or imagine that in a near future the Dark Ranger class is available, many Hunters (like me) would die to buy a class change instead of having to level and prepare a whole new character from zero.

I wouldn’t mind losing class-specific achievements, titles or items (such as pets), that would be reasonable and acceptable.

** I see this specifically might be problematic. In this case, I wouldn’t mind losing raid/dungeon/pvp progress of the current expansion, as that would mean an unfair advantage in comparison with a fresh new alt. Also, gear and other items would not be automatically converted - with a class change, you’d have to start over in terms of gear.

Blizz are way too greedy to ever make that a possibility lol.

How does this make sense? Class change wouldn’t be free, just like level boosts or race/faction change.

Because you invest hundreds/ thousands of hours on achievements, gearing up, levelling (even with a boost 110-120), artifact power etc. Which equals more sub times/played time. Which equals happier share holders.

It’s wayyyyyy more beneficial for blizz to have you making alts. And if they did a class change, it would just result in less 110 boosts. So they wouldn’t make anything more, unless if it was for a stupid price. But anything in the stores all ready a stupid price.

I’ve kind of wanted a Class Change Service in the past. But I’m not sure. It might have some undesirable side-effects. Like, instead of making a new alt you might find yourself more compelled to just pay to switch your class.
And in the high-end PvE and PvP scenes people might find themselves “forced” to pay to swich their classes in order to be competitive (again, as opposed to just leveling an alt).
And on a whole, it might lead the playerbase down a path with less class diversity, as everyone will just pay to be the current FotM class, and then you’ll have a million of x around and not much else, and that’s probably not good for the game or community.

But why would they rather buy a class change instead of leveling a new alt? Class change would only maintain general achievements and reputations, not gear or artifact knowledge, as that would be unfair for those who do level up a fresh new alt.

EDIT: class change would offer the convenience of not having to grind once again reputations, unlock flight paths, maintaing general achievement points, etc. Anything that would offer an (unfair) advantage in raid/dungeon/pvp progress would be disabled - this is reasonable.

SWG did it using in game currency.

Every time a class became FOTM, everyone changed class

Oh wow, I fail to see why so many people would do such a thing. I’m not that kind of player, my reasons are actually more related to convenience and roleplaying.

Can you help me understand why people would scrap their old class for a new one just because it’s better instead of rolling a new alt? I would really never do that :open_mouth:

EDIT: Like, how is it different than what we have now? If a class is popular/excellent, just roll a character and buy a level boost. You clearly don’t care about your character’s background or raid/pvp-non-related progress. What is it that a class change offers that would make everyone want to change to a FOTM class, considering the class change that I propose would not maintain gear or other items that would offer an advantage in raid/dungeons/pvp?

There is no reason to believe that people don’t care about their PvP/raid progress just because they want to change class. Ask shadow priests and shamans, they’ve had a rough ride through BfA. If they had the chance to change character without losing their rep/gear progress, I imagine many would do so.

Class change without keeping your gear/professions is pointless however, I agree.

Honestly i would’nt mind a option to change my class.
If it’s a resonable price,that is.
On this char f.eks,i would like a mage instead.
Because after hitting 110 for the armor,i’ve been playing it less and less.
Hunter is not quite for me.
Started to level up a velf mage, but stopped at lvl 30,just could’nt go through it again, and the 110 boosting,is not worth the price either.
(Less ,after they removed the profession boost with it )

Well… I will never play a new hero and I could class+race change one day given possibility. There are achievements and reputations that cant be farmed with newly created smurfs (or are much harder).

Good luck farming talons rep from legion for example~

It’s a nice idea for a new thread!
Put it like this, let’s make a game: let’s assume that from today onwards, this is an active change, you can now switch class for a price. Try to think everything that would happen now if that was real.

I can definitely imagine that forums would be a “Wow is fully pay to win now, Gratz blizzard” and rage everywhere. And players changing class based on the favorite of the week or how the hell you say that

I had this problem in 2013 on my hunter, wanted to class change. Couldn’t.

Was pretty lame.

If your character is 120 and they implement a class change they could always reset your character back to 110 for example, and you have to relevel it to level 120. You will then get gear as if you boosted that char. That would stop people from using it as an option to reroll FOTM. Once you hit 120 again, you receive any quest/achievement/rep/profession progress you lost while leveling up again, but your max level gear obtained before leveling up will remain unusable and you will have to work again to gear up your character.

I’d love to, I wish I made a lock instead of rogue.

I’d be up for this being a thing, but only if blizzard charged tons for it.
More money going into game the more incentive they have for making this game for generations to come.

But by tons I would at least think a clean 100bucks. Let’s make people really think before they do it, and make it so expensive people can’t be bullied into charging at high end.

It’s an interesting concept. People put a lot of time and effort into their characters. If you are someone who will always change to whatever is best, or whatever you enjoy playing most, this idea will probably not appeal.

This has been my main since Wrath and no matter what she is always my main. I’ve done everything on her. I’d not give that up, nor would I re-do it all on an alt.

I too wish that class change option was on store. I personally don’t plan using it on any of my characters now, but I can totally see why some people would like to have that.

There are already options to change race, gender, faction and realm, so having an option to change the class doesn’t sound too far fetched at all.
