Orgrimmar in Unreal Engine 5

I don’t know if this has been posted before, but this looks amazing.

It looks amazing but it also looks like a different game.

Agreed, dialing up the graphics to this degree takes away from the charm of WoW’s instantly recognisable aesthetics.

I’ve seen it before and somewhat unusually I actually like it and would wish WoW looked more like this.

Most of the time when people have ported WoW into Unreal Engine it has lost its larger-than-life size and strange cartoony angles and overmuscled men etc. - but this one doesn’t lose those things. It looks entirely like Warcraft, it doesn’t look realistic at all, though it looks more similar to the cinematics than the current game.

But yes, it does look like a different game. There’s no point even discussing graphics upgrades if it looking like a higher resolution game is seen as a problem.

As awesome as this looks and a huge well done to the maker for doing such a great job!

Part of what makes WoW is it’s graphics. I hope WoW never looks like this.

Still the creator did an amazing job (just incase he/she ever reads this!)

The sad truth is in a 25 man raid this would never work with current hardware. throw in mobs and spell effects too. Would be a lag fest, Afaik anyway.

Amazing yes, but that is a completely different art style than what is used in the game. What World of Warcraft need is to increase the number of polygons for coming releases and updates.

I mean, come on. I don’t see anyone wanting a Super Mario remake in UE5.

I swear i see a new thread about that exact video every week.

Not to mention the fee Blizzard would need to pay for using UE5, on top of the hardware requirements excluding players with questionable hardware, and so on.

That wouldnt ever work on a mmo rpg,but anyway wow retail is not a mmorpg anymore for that manner !

It’s fantastic how Orgrimmar can be created like that, I never tire seeing that video, it’s just so visually stunning!

I’d like this style of they did a co-op action game like Warhammer: Vermintide.

Well its what wow 2 would look like if it was made today. Its still has the Warcraft spirit. And If it was made, they would have to start with a new story/beginning from scratch for it to make sense with a new lore. Can’t pick up after wow 1. But I don’t think we will ever see Warcraft in this quality.

Why not, a new generation would want it to have the best graphics that exist today and us old timers won’t matter anymore what we think.

Which for the current art style means

“best graphics that exists” means just that, and does not in any way determine a specific art style.

They should use it for creating an animated series. The full Warcraft story from Orcs and Humans through all the expansions. It may even revive people’s interest in the game.

After all Disney uses Unreal Engine for the Mandalorian and Book of Boba Fett.

looks like minecraft with circles

looks amazing

That’s simply not sufficient. Just adding polygons actually doesn’t improve the quality that much - as a matter of fact it’s not becoming common to try to cull polygons in newer games if it’s hard to perceive anyway - that’s a feature of Unreal Engine 5.

To truly update World of Warcraft’s graphics and bring them into 2022 they need to fix the lighting above all else. The lighting in World of Warcraft is crap, especially compared to the phenomenal lighting in their cinematics.

Even the basic stuff doesn’t work. We’ve literally got bonfires placing a shadow on the ground from the moon, or hand-made lighting effects around pillars where the metal grids around them would cast a shadow on the ground, but the hand-placed shadow is misaligned.

It’s genuinely unfathomably bad.

Lighting, lighting, lighting. HDR, raytraced shadows using environment lights, and specular lights. Basic stuff - stuff most CS students can code up in an afternoon, like I wish I knew what was going on here.
