Honestly, when is Blizzard going to bother to put a bit of effort into Orgrimmar? After handing in quests down by the city’s “docks” I’ve been reminded of just how low effort a lot of Orgimmar is.
I’m not talking about textures or polygon counts. It’s the fact that large portions of the city are just bland emptiness. Cliff sides and cliff tops are barely used. If there is a built asset somewhere, it’s more than likely just plonked down randomly. Nothing really tie it in.
The road to the docks of the Horde Capital is a dirt path. There’s a lone high-res tower, a basic T-shaped quay and a cave full of void cultists right beside it! Come on. Give a little respect at least…
The city is just so badly designed. There’s nothing but trash in front of the main gate. The VERY IMPORTANT portal room is right inside the same front gate, so enemies will just cut that asset of immediately when the place is seiged yet again. Grommash Hold is slap-bang in the middle of the first area invaders are going to storm into. That’s if they haven’t forgotten that absolutely awful Western and Northern gates, cos the devs seem to have!
I know they’re barbarians but look at what Garrosh was capable of doing. Are Orcs really that bad at building a fortified city? What about the other races that call Orgrimmar their only home?
The trolls have a mini swamp that the crammed-in Goblins are polluting upstream. The Tauren get to squat in the ruins of the old Grommash Keep (which was in a far better position) while the Forsaken and Blood Elves don’t even have a small area for themselves.
Is there no one left on the design team that actually enjoys the world that was created?
But dumb dumbs managed to create all that crap in SoO underneath Orgrimmar. They’re able to create great-looking bastions of the Horde in the various places we’ve set foot over the years.
As I said, I know they’re barbarians but there’s a difference between letting poo lay where it falls and actually a coordinated brutal capital city!
If it was an orc/goblin combination before, surely we could do it again. We have the Mag’har, who are effectively the Iron Horde anyway. A lot more stable tech than the Goblins.
Still, the Goblins need a bigger explodey area for themselves too.
That’s the thing, WoW isn’t persistent. There is no reason to go back to individual zones after you’re done with them. They could have released each expansion as a standalone game set in that story’s specific region since there’s no need to go back anywhere else.
I just wish someone out there would show the game the love it deserves.
90 % of the content of wow exist in those previous expansions that’s why most people go back during a content drought it’s why alot of this wow killers fail because they lack 18 years of content
Neh dont need to do it doesnt need to be revamped, why would they put time in that? If you are asking waste of time thats the pinnacle of waste of time
Actually that’s about the only thing that makes sense. It’s an access point through your defenses which means it can be used by the enemy as well. It’s certainly better than having it the middle of your city like in Stormwind or right next to your leader’s structure like in Silvermoon.
I wouldn’t expect much. Most of the faction cities are either crap or not faction cities, take Gilneas for example, unused past the worgen leveling experience or the nifghtbourne city.
And if you think that the design team has any power in making final decisions regarding adding content that involves money, think again. But hey, at least we removed gender from the character creator.
That’s not a city, but a cave, what is populated by tribal races, who are morally, technologically and culturally on the level of an isolated cannibal-tribe somewhere in the third world. What you are looking for, is on the blue side. Feel free to enjoy its design by either fighting your way into there, or making a new toon, but it’s worthless to try to change the completely opposite side, which meant to give the environment a nice contrast.
It’ll probably get updated again if and when they ever redo the old world. At the moment their world designers are probably always working on ‘new’ stuff.
Not that I disagree with you, I’d love it if they had a little team of 2-3 people just updating the old world zones.
Yeah, I am sure a lot of work would be needed to create proper assets. Maybe carve out some of the cliffsides for the Trolls and the Goblins.
Add better access and civilian usage of the cliff tops.
Move Grommash Hold back against the Cleft of Shadows.
Provide permanent residencies for the Tauren, Blood Elves, Forsaken, and other allied races.
Fortify both the Western and Northern gates. Expand at least some sort of infrastructure outside the front gate so that the portal room is not literally on the front doorstep.
Actually, make some proper docks.
It’d probably take a few more people. It’s a shame that Activision is not hiring people with passion and/or not paying them enough to care.
