I’m not a frequent forum guest anymore, and it’s literally throwing this out there in the dark with a <1% chance of success, but you always got to try, right?
Ever since the original Steelseries WoW MMO Gaming Mouse came out in 2009 I got one, loved it, had it for years, and a few years ago bought another one refurbished as the first one finally gave up.
The time has come and my little buddy is giving up, I’ve taken it to a great friend that actually managed to repair it for me, but I notice some buttons are just giving up by now.
I don’t even know if it’s against forum policies, but I’m greatly interested in taking over a working mouse from somebody else that is no longer interested in it. Were it to be new, used, or refurbished, it doesn’t matter a whole lot, all that matters is that all the buttons work.
I’d hate to change away from this thing, it’s accompanied me through highs and lows and I rely greatly on it’s key layout.
If there’s somebody out there with a working gem of this, I’ll happily discuss furthermore over discord if you’d part ways with it.
For sure I’ve a corsair scimitar lying ready to be used, I tried and just got frustrated. Of course I don’t get it in a day’s time, you don’t unlearn muscle memory that quick. But I’m very stubborn and this thing is my baby. I’m trying to convince myself that this is just the start of a new era, ~10 years after the mouse is already out of production.
FWIW, I had a Razer Naga Trinity and it already came delivered with mousewheel issues (wheel would often jump a notch without registering, then jump to next one and register twice). I loved the feel of the side buttons, so against better judgment I kept it. I later tried contacting Razer support about the issue, recorded 2 videos to show what the issue was and they kept coming back to me with “yeah, I really don’t know what the issue is, could you record a video of it happening?”
I’d stay as far away from Razer as possible. They’re infamous for having all sorts of build quality issues that should not happen at that price, and their support is just awful.
Personally I love my G600 in terms of usability. It feels nice and weighty, the software is easy to use (Razer’s software is a nightmare), and the “G-Shift button” is an amazing addition. I still dread the day when it will stop working because they don’t build those anymore and I’ll have to resort to a Corsair (which doesn’t have a “Shift” button so my keybinds are going to be awkward) or, even worse, a Naga
If you’re still hankering after the SteelSeries WOW Legendary MMO gaming mouse, check out its new and improved cousin, the SteelSeries Rival 500. It features a 15 button layout, customizable tactile alerts and reinforced left and right switches.
Sadly all these arguably good mice are discontinued, the thing I love the most about the WoW-specific one are the two buttons next to the scroll, they’re just so nice to press, and somehow nobody builds them there anymore? Instead they put them on the outer edge of the left mouse click. How are you supposed to spam those? Argh ^^
I totally feel you man, I have been using my SteelSeries Cataclysm since 2011, i cant imagine playing without it, and it breaks my heart to know that it will die some day. I have recently aquired a Razer Naga as backup, and tried using, it but it just isn’t the same.
I have from time to time experienced buttons not responding, and i found that cleaning the mouse can sometimes help. It has kept my mouse alive 10 years and counting.
Best of luck to you
good news for you. it’s not hard to replace microswitches inside a mouse if you got some time a soldering iron with solder and desoldering wick. bottom line is this mouse can be saved if you really want to save it.
