Outhealed by low geared disc priest

Hallo.

I was doing heroic VOTI in a pug and I was outhealed by this disc-priest in every boss encounter. His itemlevel was 377 and mine is 402. He had alot of green-stuff, and I have 4-set tier bonus, Elemental Lariat and so on - how’s that possible?! (Yes yes, “you suck”, thanks now move on:P)

I’m holy-specced and I’ve always found it fun to play holy, but seeing myself at the bottom of the healing-crew and being beated by this low-geared person got me gutted. I haven’t seen myself as a bad healer, but yea, I guess numbers don’t lie?

How do I increase my healing output, is there anything in my spec I should change?

That is hard to know without knowing what fight, healer composition and logs…

You are better to ask these questions in the priest discord though, usually the guide creators are on those aswell to help and answerd questions.

I recommend to look up the best holy priests on warcraft logs for spell priority and talent trees. after a quick look on your logs, there were mistakes on priority and talent tree.
U dont play with talent lightweaver but u cast flashlight. only use it on proc and u dont need aoe at this time. Use Holy Word: Sanctify & Prayer of Healing more often.
U should also drop apotheosis for Holy Word: Salvation.

Just focus on gearing corretly. For Holy Priests u wanna have mainly mastery and crit.
Not sure why u got gems and enchants with haste/versa. These r only for m+

I will look into what you’ve said, my gear is based around mythics, I’ll switch up my enchants, I haven’t looked them over for a while tbh ^^ My talents I copied from Icy Veins Holy Priest guide, but that was couple of months ago now ^^ Appreciated!

There is also a way to pad on healing,if you want to have pretry looking logs
If you are in pug group you also can pre-op your cd second before other healers will do
Make sure you have echo of the light spread on the group
If you know that you can stand in some poop that wont kill you but will require healing - just do it and heal yourself
For logs run i usually go with my friends that take a damage so i spam heal them

I’m not interested in being the very best, my concern is just that I under-performed next to a guy with that amount of lower level gear then what I have. I don’t know about “logs”, really, if someone could point me in the right direction I’ll look into that.

Of course I want to perform better tho, and clearly it has to be the utilization of my skills that are lacking behavioural skills from my side, because discopriest can’t be that overpowered to outheal a holy priest in a heroic raid :stuck_out_tongue:

This was a PUG tho, I was the only healer outside of the raiding guild and also my first time in heroic voti, I had fun but, concerened about the numbers. I do like my playstyle but of course I want to utilize every aspect of the game as much as possible without taking the fun-factor out of the game :slight_smile:

There is a website called mythic trap - you can look for mechanics on that website, usually i put timers in big wigs before big group damage is incoming to use my cooldown (if im not with the guild or its reclear and we dont have notes) . Also important thing is to stay active during the whole encounter,for quick heals use flash heal,for lomg ones heal obviously,dont spam heal/flash heal on the same target,you want to rotate between targets to spread your echo of the light ,keep your healing over tike abilties on tanks, also you must have quick reaction for heals,you can look on the website called subcreation for the talents that people are currently running,also you can start logging fights and use wowanalyzer to check your performance,it shows some things that you could do to improve,for example for 7 min fight you casted just 1 divine hymn when you could have casted 2 and etc
When there is nothing to heal,you cam contribute dps,make sure you keep dots at all the time on the boss!

Check the logs, he did great for his ilevel. You did quite poorly.

If its your first time it could be that he understood the damage patterns better.

The issue is there is to much healing available. The holy priests mana supply is not really pushed to the limit.

Disc priest is fully depleted.

Dracbob is fully depleted as well.

Yaretzi is fully depleted as well.

Looks like you were shut out and could only increase healing by overhealing hich you didn’t.

306,857.1 damage taken.

71,594.4 from first healer.
59,345.1 from second healer.
53,062.8 from holy priest.
47,746.9 from the disc priest.

231,747 healing approx. and the rest upto 306,857.1 from the rest of the raid.

So this divided by four and you get 57,936.75hps per healer. So, you have the healing near perfect balance between three healers. So the top healer gets a little extra and the lowest ilvl healer the least. This healing looks spot on.

All overheal under 30% for all healers.

The holy priest could have gone after hps by overhealing more. This is what you shouldn’t do. You did your job 100% correctly. The overheal is low and the raid was an success. All healers have low overheal. This is perfect, mana was well spent.

So you didn’t hit top of the meters. Thats not an issue for healers. Healing is capped. This is ment to happen and why perfect gear for a healer is pointless. Two healers took their full and what was left was not enough for you to get a good hps. So you did the right thing and not overheal. Thus, if there was a big damage spike you had mana for it.

Healing is not ment to be a more hps sport. Its about keeping the raid going untill the boss is down. There is nothing wrong in this log.

Success was the outcome. Mana was well spent, as overhealing was low. The holy priest had 25% in the tank at the end and kept overhealing below 30%. Still did his share of the healing.

Dejarous is incorrect, this is ment to happen when there are more healing chasing too little damage taken. The idea is to have the skill not to overheal and work with other healers. Sometimes this means you don’t top the meters. That others get there first and you sometimes get whats left over to heal. The point is that every healer was effective and healing was balanced between them efficiently.
