Maybe unpopular opinion but Outlaw imho does not fit the rogue class archetype, it’s skewed in there. I feel I might not be the only one not touching outlaw ever for this reason and be limited to 2 specs with rogue. I don’t think the whole stealth stuff fit with Outlaw theme. Even when it was combat, the spec was just a whatever spec between a rogue and a warrior.
It should be renamed as Bucaneer, Musketeer, Swashbuckler or simply Pirate and have a tank spec with it.
Outlaw has the strongest identity out of the 3 specs currently but it’s just a mess.
No idea what to replace it with for rogues though.
Maybe keep assass, turn sub into a shadowblade/shadowdancer relying on shadow/void magic and have a true ninja spec with jutsu and mudra (totally not thinking about the ninja class from ffxiv).
Not a fan of the possible gunslinger integration in rogue, does not fit much either, should be its own class too. Same for alchemist.
I think the devs would need a stronger agument to decouple an entire spec from the rogue class than “Uh, I don’t think the whole stealth stuff fit with Outlaw theme.”
They did with warlock and DH? They are doing it again with priest and DH? Even warlock and DK. So why not? Are we stuck with this crappy iteration of an out of theme spec?
Since when were pirates stealthy? They’re the opposite of stealthy.
The argument is that no one plays rogue anymore, it sucks, it lost its identity, do they need anything more?
Look at the other threads here.
Outlaw doesn’t necessarily mean a pirate. It’s just a theme of some abilities.
Also, pirates were stealthy - they used small vessels, foreign flags and deceptive symbols to mislead warships and slip past them or trick their victims and close in for an attack. Not the same as rogue’s stealth, of course, but pirates weren’t living in the fantasy universe with magic and stuff either. But I’m saying that all just to justify it being a rogue spec. It shouldn’t rely on stealth at all in my opinion.
Also, I would prefer them to rework it either into a different (fourth) tree as with guardian, into a hero talents maybe even or, which probably is the best and simplest choice - as a part of a talent tree. So you can pick if you want to be more of a combat or more of an rng rtb crackshot 250 apm whatever.
Or, which might be even better, rework trees so we aren’t tied to one spec and can select whatever we want as was the case before and make thematic trees like poisons, bleeds, stealth, one-handed weapons, pirate stuff, etc. Definitely not gonna happen in the near future though.
