I have not played retail in an extremely long time and have decided to return due to the new expansion. However it appears that there are now such an abundance of different abilities that even for someone returning being able to play the class to any decent standard seems to be extremely daunting.
I’m particularly interested in Sub rogue as I’ve always felt it or Assassination is what a rogue is really about.
Am I just that much out of touch with the game now or have they really made it overly complicated? It feels like i’m going to need to keybind my entire keyboard just to play the class well.
I’m genuinely interested in what advice people can offer, whether that be external sites, videos or guides etc. I’m sure I’ll get a few “L2P” posts but hopefully they’ll realise thats exactly what i’m trying to do.
I came back after 10 years of not playing wow, and tbh don’t really feel like it’s super hard. I had some macros on sub in the beginning, but then I talked to some people that play rogues and said not to use them. Where now I don’t have a single macro and don’t feel like I am smashing keys just for sake of it…
I would suggest you to do unranked pvp arenas and practice openers on dummies, you can get a hang of it pretty quickly, just needs practice like everything else
You have discord servers for rogues and I love to watch pikaboo rogue streamer, however he is on another level so it’s hard to follow him in the beginning. After couple of streams, it got much easier
I have made a few WeakAuras to help me tracking cooldowns and buffs, especially Shadow Dance but other than that, the spec doesn’t seem to be hard. It’s definitely not one button spec!!!
Just open from stealth, use already collected combo points and apply Rupture followed by Shadow Dance, followed by Shadowstrike or Cheap Shot. if you have combo points, use Kidney Shot before Shadow Dance. Then, simply alternate between Shadowstrike and Eviscerate. You will kill everything that moves in secs.
Perhaps you struggle because of wrong talents? I apply Cold Blood and Marked for Death with Slice and Dice. If i am in Shadow Dance and my energy is low, I apply a Symbols of Death (20 sec CD). On stronger opponents, I also use Shadow Blades for quicker combo points but it’s CD is 3 mins.
I agree Dashla to play it simply isn’t that difficult but to play it well does seem to entail a bit more.
The opener seems to be easy enough, you can macro Cold Blood, Marked for Death use Slice and Dice just before pull. Then open, use Rupture, Shadow Dance, Shadowstrike and so forth. But the rotation goes beyond this opening sequence, you’ve also got to mix in survivability/utility abilities on prolonged fights.
Looking at keybinds, even for basic stuff you’ll be needing a few macros and quite a few keybinds. When you get to complex stuff involving prolonged fights, switching between single target and AoE rotations, using your mobility/utility/survivability abilities, then the list of keybinds increases considerably.
It just seems far too much, I didn’t agree with pruning abilities to the point of classes using only a few buttons but this feels like they’ve gone to the opposite end of the scale and just thrown abilities in for the sake of it.
Well, I like the spec in the current state. Neither tracking de/buffs nor a number of spells is a problem for me as I know how to build small WAs and macros, which I do all the time.
Shame some don’t enjoy it because I was really looking forward to the changes for Subtlety since long time beyond BfA and they seem to have done a goof job.
What helped me a lot was using the mousewheel up and down.
I rebound zoom in and out to Ctrl+Alt MWup and MWDown to get it out of the way.
Now MWdown is filler ability, and MWup is main spender.
For Rogue it’s Backstab MWdown and Eviscerate MWup.
Anyway, that helped me a lot and now the camera is more steady too.
