Own up: Which dev has the 'swirly' fetish?

It feels like raids and dungeons have themes, (Tomb of Soak-garas anyone)?

This seasons dungeons as usual have taken a theme and dialed it up to 11. We’re all used to ‘don’t stand in the crap’ but now every dungeon has ‘crap’ that fills have the screen for ages. Some of the abilities last so long it feels more like its co-ordinated orbital bombardments coming in from Starcraft than wow.

Combine this with pulsing aoe damage and then the fact that you chopped melees range off so it feels like their arms terminate at their elbows and its… unfun. Don’t get me wrong, it still feels better than s1 but lets be honest, that wasn’t a high bar.

I was going to give some examples but, well ‘every dungeon’ just about does it.

Is it just me or do others feel this way?

It feels like they made new effects and now they have to be EVERYWHERE

Ikr, even motherlode has been redesigned to have more “circles on the ground”. I don’t remember drills after first boss doing that bombardment, nor robots dropping green toxic circles back in BFA.

I prefer the swirlies a million times over the other fetish they have of unavoidable aoe damage in every trash pack and boss

Is legion syndrome everything needs to be a swirl not a beam but a swirl.-

Most of this crap was always there though. You just didnt see it because of how terrible visials were

Best example would be ML - most of it was there since bfa - people just dealt with it with azerite powers and corruptions - one good Twilight devastation from tank and half of trash mechanic didnt have chance to happen

No. You just finaly see everything falls instead just swirlies and fire next to you .

And now that you see all - you should realise why sometines people find it borderline impossible to dodge mechanics

Swirlies EVERYWHERE (and no, its not that i didnt see them before, never had issues with seeing the mechanics ever)! Feels like it was a bad time to try out mistweaver healing :joy:

Nope, the worst 2 examples weren’t there in BFA.

You can see the first 2 min of the vid, no big mech with massive swirlies. Also from about 12 min on the pull after the first boss never used to have the drills in that do the massive area of denial.

Watch the first vid, then watch the 2nd one. The area of denial starts at 9:30 lasts for 8 seconds. Starts again at 9:58 aaand again at 11:00

So you’re talking rubbish. This is my shocked face.

  1. Mechanics are changed and no need to make fools of us with your silly comment. Or maybe you are having some opposite of mandela effect.
  2. Numbers have been tuned with azerite in mind and in season four with corruptions in mind. You sound as if people were one-shot-ing everything before abilities even triggered.

Right, when I complained back then about mechanics I was bad, terrible, casual and whatnot.
now even the Grey Eminence of the Forum reiterates my sentiment

They probably only did keys they were overgearing.

What next is bad? Every dungeon has interupts? The horror

Nah, Lilith simply likes making silly comments.

Theater of Pain encounters have been changed as well. Tho to be fair, first trio of bosses have been made easier as there is no that rogue who saps players.

After having given it a thought, I dont think there are more swirlies than before. Especially with 4 old dungeons from the past with practically identical mechanics.

What I do notice is that because the swirlies are much more visible now, it appears that they are more numerous. Its more “impactfull” sort of speak.

I can give you one example from ToP: The big luitenants you have to kill? That apparently throw swirlies everywhere that did not exist in SL?

Well… they did exist in SL. For example the WW some of them do. Its just that in SL you had to “guess” the distance because there was no animation. Now, they put a circle arround it.

So you have the impression that there is “more stuff” but there isent. Its just more visible.

This is due to the changes to spell quew of mobs. MANY of the things that used to be CCable are not anymore. Now you have to deal with the mechanic.

And IMO swirlies are a good mechanic to have. Because the alternative are Kicks and Defensives. And you know what happens with class balance if that becomes important.

The only one with major changes is the lich

Yeah, that one is completely different.

In recent years wow has become more and more of a bullet hell, some are fine but when you get to a point where 95% of mechanics are area denial it becomes so stressful.
