Paladin Arena - how bad will it be?

Hey all,

I’ve been considering my options for TBC as I do want to play arena with 2 friends. I used to play Holy Paladin back in original TBC and got to around 1800 in Hpala/War team but I remember it being frustrating due to being a static healer with no real offensive ability, vulnerable to spell lock, interupts etc. I did ofc have a lot of fun games with my bud back then but there was also a lot of frustrating games when I knew that I was holding my team mate back as being a Rdruid or Disc priest we probably could have been a couple hundred points higher in rating. That was way back then also when players were less skilled so I’m wondering how you think it will be for HPala in TBC arena this time around? In TBC Hpala/War was a top tier team especially in season one before everyone gets decked out in much needed resilience gear.

My plan this time around is to level my Paladin and go prot for PvE and gear him ASAP then perhaps grab as much honor gear and Holy OS gear from raids to prepare for Arena. I’ve also got a buddy who is going to be gearing a Warrior alt after he’s leveled his Warlock main so we can do 2v2 together. The main goal is eventually switch to a PvP alt and play Rogue in RMP and just use the Paladin for PvE but I’ll be playing Holy in arena until I’ve leveled the Rogue and got him geared.

So how frustrated will I be playing Holy Paladin this time around as I said the overall player skill is higher so how high do you feel Hpala/War will be able to push in S1?

Its unlikely to be different from first time around asides from the higher amount of knowledge, you should still be capable of pushing good rating teamed with a warrior though (depending on your skill).
I wouldnt bother with holy paladin for PvP but thats mostly because i find them dull.

Well since players a lot better now Paladins will be even harder to play successfully, but in 2v2 they work with dwarf/gnome Warrior while in 3v3 they work well in double healer comps.

3v3 with double dps is hard since it’s very easy to shut you down, you can get high ratings but the number of viable comps is very small and you will win by outlasting your opponent so prepare for some really long games.
