Hi all. I want a little help to decide my main. I want to focus to only one class in SL. In bfa i was main shamy healer. I like mage but i find him little squishy for solo .I like paladin ,it is good for solo and m+15 ,hc raid? I like all 3 spec on pally so…pally or mage? Ty
Well…
If you go paladin you can heal, tank or dps.
But if you’re mage you only have 3 dps specs.
If things like that matter to you.
But then again if you want to push high mythic keys, raid and PvP it’s unlikely Retri-Pala will be “the best” at all of them.
But maybe if you use a mage you’ll have a higher chance of one of the specs being viable for all 3 styles of play?
Say you use one spec for raiding, but another spec is good for m+. That kind of thing.
Paladin, you can be flexible, while mage has 2 working dps specs.
freeze for pve and pyro for pvp, of course you can freeze pvp but its slow damage.
Mage struggle quite a lot in solo content compared to paladins.
paladins can solo basically any elite boss/mob, world quest, legacy raid given enough time.
Mage need a tank or healer for most content. It got dmg but real squishy.
I usually start every expansion by maining my mage but switch to something better at solo content once I realize how large part world quests and such play in each expansion.
In pve content both classes tend to stay competitive.
At least one mage spec is usually top dps each patch.
Paladin can switch to any role when either spec is bottom tier and just as mage does, tend to have at least one competitive spec each patch.
Weeeell honestly… Paladin is good for solo but I think I’d have more fun as a mage in group content.
Paladin, fight the scourge as a true paladin would.
Pally has good survive-ability. Yes mage is squishy, but it is quite fun. When you over-gear enough though you’ll be melting targets down.
If this is the case then I say Paladin could be the best choice, since it means you can tank / heal / dps on your main if you enjoy doing all 3 which opens up more possibilities and flexibility. Meanwhile mage can only do dps, and while having 3 different dps playstyles is fun in itself you only have the one role with your main.
I think it comes down to more if you want that type of role flexibility or not, as if its not that big of a deal then the other points of mages could make up for it.
Take mage… arcane cam literally 1 shot with arcane missiles lul
If you do not mind that your only DPS spec will be hovering between mediocre and good then I wholeheartedly recommend going paladin, especially if you like healing and tanking.
If you are a hybrid player at heart like I am then mage may leave you really feeling the lack of healing/tanking spec. It is something that 3 dps specs cannot make up for.
On the bright side on mage you can be a very nifty food dispenser, and you can skip the Azeroth trafic with your portals.
Which one have more survivability?
With the new changes Arcane Mage has so much survivability.
I would say mage, because I main one and it feels really nice.
Your Alter time sends you to full HP, basically “Lay of Hands” for Paladins.
Also Mirror image is really good utility.
Of course you also have lots of mobility!
Don’t forget the Barrier!
mages are always OP, go mage
