Because it has roughly 30% higher dps. Its dmg range 65-99 is also better than 55-83, which makes all instant attacks hit harder, raising your dps even more. That is worth more than the extra attackpower the str gives.
So basic attack power on the weapon more valuable than the other stats weapon has?=)
It is a trade off, and you need to calculate if the trade off is worth it.
I bet Paladin discord has the tools for it.
Weapon DPS and speed matter a lot. But back from Vanilla - Verigan’s Fist was pretty powerful for its level, not surprised it’s the best thing you can get outside raiding at 25.
What is trade of and paladin discord? Can you share a bit more infos about them

There are class discords for every class.
It’s not.
1: Slower weapon means higher damage per direct hit as a Paladin. With a faster weapon you’re giving up a lot of DPS regardless of what the dmg range tell you.
2: Str and Agi is vastly better as far as stats go, and increases overall dmg per hit as well for Paladins, as agi also increases crit chance, while strength increases attack power, and strength as well as agi are the top prio stats for retri Paladins.
3: Retri Paladins don’t want faster than 3.40 weapons in general, as any faster will lower the overall damage output and sustained dps, and that also goes for level 25 Paladins. Ideally retri Paladins want weapons as close to 4.0 speed as possible due to the insane damage you can get out of crusader strike and divine storm.
Judgements are just fillers, not your main source of damage with the runes. That would be crusader strike/divine storm/consecration. Some say white hits are the main source of damage, but they should just delete their Paladins.
Both the raw stats and slower speed on Smite’s Mighty Hammer more than make up for the difference in dmg range.
If Verigan’s Fist was slower and had str and agi it would be pre-bis for Lvl 25, but since it’s not and it doesn’t, it’s not… The dmg range give a false sense of it being better, that’s all. Smite’s Mighty Hammer is indeed a better weapon for retri Paladins.
Pretty much all of the top logs for Ret have auto attack doing ~50% of their total damage. Sometimes more. The only exception is bosses with lots of adds. Where auto attack drops to ~40% of their total damage. And the turtle boss for obvious reasons.
If they do in fact have more damage coming from their auto attacks then people aren’t playing correctly, generally speaking.
