Pandaren Empire

I have a question regarding Pandaria’s history.

Pandaria had emperors. From what I gather, first it was the Mogu who ruled over all the other species with an iron fist.

Then, after they have been overthrown, Pandaren took over the mantle.

Here come my uqestions:

  1. Why did a Jinyu and even a Hozen become emperors at one point? How did they receive such power? Was it based on their deeds or what? Who decided that? Was there some kind of Pandaren council who simply decided who is to be the next emperor?

  2. Where did the emperors reside? Pandaria is rather void of any major settlements. Apparently, Pandaren have always lived in small communities - villages, farms and so on.

  3. If Mogu have been overthrown so long ago why did all of their statues remain? Haven’t the other races felt the need to destroy the statues of their oppressors? Or at least modify them to resemble e.g. Pandaren? Walking around Pandaria one might start thinking that Mogu are still in power, everything is Mogu-related there.

  4. Why are there no more emperors? What exactly happened that Pandaria is no longer governed such?

  5. Is there any major power that Pandaren answer to besides Celstials? Is there any law that all citizens of Pandaria must abide by? Are the Shado Pan some sort of police?

Actually the first species to rule Pandaria were Jinyu, they were later overthrown by Mogu that were affected by the curse of flesh. The Mogu had access to powerful magic and this is why Zandalari decided to form alliance with them because if they both would war against one another they’d both suffer heavy losses, but they both actually looked down upon another and were waiting for a moment to betray each other.

Once Lei Shen and Zulathra went to conquer Uldum to gain power that grants immortality the big pyramid’s system was reversed by the Tol’vir and so a big explosion was unleashed that killed Lei Shen and Zulathra and made of Uldum a desert.

This is what made pandaren revolution possible and pandaren started to rule Pandaria with Jinyu and Hozen as their advisors. The waterspeakers assisted Pandaren emperors with their wisdom, and we only know Monkey King as a noble support for Shao Hao.

There must’ve been at least few emperors before Shao Hao according to the videos.

As for Mogu structures? They were built by pandaren hands, and pandaren look at them in different manner. They see them as reminder of past and to never lose guard. This is why they let Mantid invasions once in a while to fight against them and never lose the caution / war prowess.

I think I have heard somewhere that there were 5 panda emperors and 1 Jinyu before Shao Hao. Also I do quite like the lore around the Mogu, would love them to be an allied race now that the Zandalari have joined the Horde.

I have wanted to make a thread on this for quite some time but I just don’t know if alternate history threads are actually allowed on here or not.

But regardless I wonder if the Thunder King, the Zandalari (and perhaps the other Troll tribes if they join later) could have defeated the Night Elves and claimed the Well of Entinity (like they apparently they tried to do in some other timeline Chen hints at in HotS) instead of invading the Tol’vir and dying to the Titan facility beam.

The thing with an Empire is that it is not reliant on just a core race, but all the races that are encompassed within the Empire, the Roman Empire is a pretty good example of that, it wasn’t all white dudes in Senatorial togas, theoretically, and in practice, any citizen of the Empire could become Emperor (At the point when it was an Empire, when it was a Republic only Native Citizens born in Rome could hold office)

Good question, I would strongly imagine it will have been where the Timewalkers reside now, in the Vale, with a large building, with two adjacent palaces (Two moons and Seven Stars). We don’t know, ultimately, it has never been mentioned, but given the reverence for the Vale, it does not seem unreasonable to think that it had some fundamental importance.

As Zakkaru says, it could well be that they remain as a ‘Warning from History’ Why is Adolf such a still well known figure in our world, why are movies still made about him, why does the swastika still hold such revulsion? Sometimes something is so horrific that you want to make -sure- people remember it.
The town next to where I was born still has a statue of two Vikings in it, why? Because it was the first town attacked by the Vikings, and invading force. The city I used to live in (Coventry) never had its Cathedral roof rebuilt, instead left the way it was when the Luftwaffe bombed it, some Soviet dominated countries (Bulgaria springs to mind) still keep those Murals and statues from that era.

Sometimes a reminder of what we once suffered helps us remember who we are -now- and how we came to be who we are.

I think a lot of that is to do with what Shaohao did in his life, his achievements are possibly so monumental that the Pandaren thought no one could follow in his footsteps. The Blood Elves did the same, Anasterian was the last King, no one else claims the title.

I think these days the Celestials are it. We know Pandaria has a legal system, we see that in ‘War Crimes’, and the Celestials do seem to be massively involved there. I don’t think the Shado Pan are like a police force, as much as a very small and specialised national army.

I always assumed the (Pandaren) Emperor(s) ruled from Mogu’Shan Vaults, and then the last Emperor gave his life to protect Pandaria, it fell into disservice and thats why the Mogu were able to recapture it and regroup from there…

But I suppose the Palaces in the Vale of Eternal Blossoms is a good enough place as Mogu’shan or any other I suppose.

As for why they have no Emperor anymore? Brigante makes a good point, and its not unheard of in Warcraft! The Kaldorei never chose a new King or Queen after Azshara, Anestarian was the last of the Kings of Quel’thalas, Gnomes haven’t had kings in many, many centuries. The Ironforge Dwarves don’t have a King to rule their Kingdom at this moment and nor do the Wildhammers, who haven’t had a King since the War of the Three Hammers. Some Kings are just inreplaceable, else you end up with people like Anduin trying to live up to the great Kings before.
