Rules
Pandaria Martial Arts Tournament Rules
Brackets:
Novice = Less than 5 years of combat and martial arts experience.
Intermediate = More than 5 years of combat and martial arts experience, less than 20.
Master = More than 20 years of combat and martial arts experience.
The tournament works with a flexible set of rules depending on the number of contestants for each bracket!
Fight Rules:
Contestants gain points from techniques and strikes that make proper contact with the opponentās torso. 3 points results in a victory, and removing your opponent from the fightās bounds (must be announced to referee prior to attempting a 100 roll! One may only attempt a ring-out once per fight!) results in an instant victory. Receiving a point will be announced by the referee.
(Simple roll combat. First roll is for initiative, higher roll wins. Attacking roll vs. defensive roll in turns. If attacking roll is higher, the attacker receives a point. 100 attack roll awards 2 points (i.e. more than 1 strike in a combo hit, or over the course of a longer exchange) while a 100 defense roll results in a point for the defender (i.e. counter attack). Attacker/defender rolling 1 results in a free point for the opponent.
Monks using chi abilities receive a +20* bonus added to their dice that turn!
Non-monk, pandaren martial artists are allowed to participate, but will not have the opportunity to employ the same bonus!
*please leave the math to the referees and roll 1-100 anyways!)
Strikes to the head, neck and crotch are forbidden, along with causing permanent damage to your opponent. Chi is only allowed for defensive, manoeuvrability and speed increasing techniques. If the fight gets out of hand, the referee is allowed to stop it. The use of armour is also forbidden.
When you say about combat experience, Hedris is been fighting for aboutā¦ 4000 odd years and been a Brewmaster Monk since MoP for obvious reasons. What bracket would that pop him under?
It depends on how hard heās been training. It could accumulate to masterās bracket by rule of thumb, especially if he could pass for a monk trainer! Just be aware that the mastersā bracket is held to a very high standard when it comes to character portrayal!
That being said, all brackets are held to a standard of, well, go on a classic Kung Fu flick binge and find out!
The fights should convey the level of each participantās skill and the struggle to a point where it grips their attention from start to finish, Pandaria style!
On a brief tangent, we find allied races harder to fit into a mastersā bracket (even intermediate in most cases!) for nowā¦ I could see a Dark Iron work if he or she has been to Pandaria that early. After all, the Three Hammers had taken to the throne before Pandaria, reuniting all dwarvenkind just in time for the big reveal of the continent!
Sadly, as this tournament seems to take place during Midsummer (at least here in Finland) Iām going to have to skip. Best of luck to the rest who participate!
Lokātar! Hurrgash Mugbreaker signs up for the Intermediate bracket! This time he has a sobe-- hurr, stronger resolution to show the results of his training
I usually get my lore from the online content Blizzard puts out, so maybe this is a novel thing, but how do jaguar warriors correlate to pandaren martial arts? Was there a founder? Or did the first jaguar warrior return to Zandalar after having spent time in a monastery on Pandaria? Or have I misunderstood and thereās a pandaren teacher somewhere in your characterās personal lineage that began immediately after the events on the Isle of Thunder? We need to know these little details because,
which does not strictly apply to pandaren who arenāt monks but practice martial arts nevertheless, but also to people and lineages that begin with a pandaren master!
If yes but recent, how long has the pandaren been teaching him for? If Iām not mistaken itās been 3, maybe 4 years in lore since these events? If yes, how hard has he been training under new teachings since then?
Again, this is strictly so that we understand how a characterās competitive bracket factors into their background!
There is unfortunately little lore on Jaguar Warriors, Zandalari have massive limbo in the coolest character classes. The way I interpret them is that they (at least mine!) followed Kimbul and given they learn from very young age to even be considered able to survive in their caste would already give them some experience. I also included a motivation that after getting his butt kicked the troll decided to mix his style with Pandaren ones to counter the monks in his desire for revenge in form of beating the strongest monks he can find. Being in his mid 30ās and training intensely after Throne of Thunder alongside the concept of āspiritual powerā of Eāko I think he can cut it.
First things first. I love the concept, and it has great potential to fuel long-term rivalries with monks that could persist all the way down to the EoL of WoW!
Unfortunately, however, your characterās background suggests that he learned from pandaren monks, but never studied under a pandaren school, let alone a master who chose to carry a pandarenās teachings onward. We (including I, really) understand that this condition sounds convoluted and extremely limiting, but we believe itās crucial for an event made to honor the teachings of Kang, and many other schools that followed in his footsteps, that these same teachings are indeed represented - and indeed honored.
We (again, including I) understand that this is frustrating as the Celestial Fist Tournament is the only unarmed tournament, and monk-centered tournament, and martial arts tournament that roleplayers have to flock to, but despite critique that we are already way too lax in whom we allow to participate (yes, really - that is a recurring critique), we work hard every tournament to give and maintain the Celestial Fist Tournament the identity it deserves.
That is not to say there is no room for revenge stories. There absolutely is. Rivalries between pandaren schools can be an extremely elegant point of entry for hatred and vendetta.
Having said all that, there is still hope. Valladia is currently organizing a Grand World Tournament (May 27th - 30th), which will be featuring single combat duels on the fourth day for monks to partake in as well!
I hope this message has cleared up any confusion on how we strive to decide on who is and who isnāt qualified for the tournament.
I saw no issue with orc warriors being in novice bracket or a anchorite being in masters bracket?? I was out there being a referee for you at that time, so Iām seeing the fair point of critique if specialized unarmed combat group member isnāt allowed to attend while someone with 0 experienced was. So Iāll be assuming this is a new thing
