Patch 11.1, game freezes for 3-6 seconds randomly, in dungeons/raids

how did you do that? Thanks in advance

Yeh something is off, started getting these 3-4 second freezes since 11.1 patch, really sucks when raiding… usually means death when they occur.

Same here freezes once every hour or two for 0,5-3 seconds.
Windows 11, 9800x3d, 5070ti.
Dont have any issue with any other games and ran various stress testing software for quite a bit with all thermals well below limits so i doubt its some instability in system.

i’m experiencing the same.

I tried the following things but nothing fixed it:

  • Disabling all the addons
  • Tried playing with Direct x 11 and 12
  • Installed the latest Nvidia driver
  • Installed a Nvidia driver from before the freezes (end of janurary)
  • Installed the latest W11 updates
  • Rolled my W11 back to end of December.
  • Tried Fullscreen / Windowed mode
  • Fully deinstalled WoW and got a clean install.

I’m sure its not my PC
Specs: Ryzen 7 3700X - RTX 2070 super

Having the same problem as well…I hoped disabling G-Synch wouldn’t be the fix…But as you are pointing out, unfortunately it is i guess

Same issue here. Never noticed it when there is little going on but couldn’t say for certain that it only happens on big pulls as it sometimes seems to happen is less busy boss fights too…

I wondered whether it was an ElvUI issue but I replaced ElvUI with SuF and few other addons and I still get the same issue.

When it happens to me the game freezes for 3-5 seconds and then resumes. It doesn’t catch up in fast forward mode, it just resumes.

Since I switched addons around the main addons that have been constant have been Details, Weak Auras and DBM. I will try disabling the Details addon for a few days and see it that makes a difference and report back.

Edit: adding system specs: Intel i5-8600K CPU @ 3.60 Ghz, 32GB RAM, AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT. My PC spec hasn’t changed in years and this is an issue I have only experienced in the last few weeks so it feels like a software issue somewhere.

Did u try disable g sync or v sync ? Disable helped me

AMD card here. I have a 144Hz 4K monitor so currently running AMD Freesync Premium Pro. I’ll try turning that off for a while too and report back.

same here random freeze 4 second, sometime disconnect Intel + nvidia

I have the same issue since the 11.1.

Sometimes the game will freeze for ~1-5s, happened 2 times on gallywix for example, once 4s after the pull and once before he land for his transition with shield.

Happenned in MM+ too.

Tested on multiple PC :

W11 24H2
9950X3D
9070 XT
64GB

W11 24H2
5950X
2080 TI
32GB

W11 24H2
9800X3D
RTX 5090
64GB

I have reinstalled W11 24H2 and WoW, deleted a lot of addons and did not change anything.

I dont not have the G-sync option, so i turned off vsync within the nvidia control panel, but it did not do anything.
Still experiencing freezes and it is only gets worse by day.
Just flew out of Dornogol and my screen froze…

I disabled vertical sync ingame, but still freezes.
The game freezes completely and after the freeze it resumes the game where it left off.

Are you on Nvidia? I was having a lot of similar issues on RTX 4070 Super. The game would lock up, fonts would get blurry when tabbing in/out, etc. Enabling/disabling Vertical Sync would work but only for a while (I normally play with VS off).

I checked the Event Viewer and had quite a few errors saying “The description for Event ID 153 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found”. The fix was to take ownership of the nvlddmkm.sys file in System32. No problems since then, on latest Nvidia drivers.

Today in 2 hours 3 dc!
/yells “somthing is not quit right”

Hmm just opened my event viewer, started playing some WoW and got the same error you speaking of.

What do you mean with 'Take ownership of the nvlddmkm.sys file in System32" ?
Maybe this will be the fix for me.

I too am being impacted by this issue.

Approx 3 times when fighting bosses in Liberation of Undermine the game will lock up entirely for 2-5s before recovering.

Win 11 2024H2
AMD 9800X3D
Nvidia 5080

  1. Go to C:\Windows\System32 and find a file called nvlddmkm.sys.
  2. Right-click it and select Properties > Security > Users > Edit.
  3. Change the permissions for “Users” to “Full control”.
  4. If the options are greyed out, click Advanced and then Change next to “Owner” (pick your account).
